We chose this hotel for the last night of our stay as, generally, we found the hotel standards in Sri Lanka quite poor, and wanted somewhere nice. The hotel is in a good location. It is situated in a shopping mall featuring luxury brand shops and eateries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The gym and swimming pool are nice. The bathrooms are nice and we had a good view of the sea from our room.

The bathroom lock wouldn't work and there was a small amount of mould in the shower. The room was very small (we were told we'd been upgraded, though this was not the case). The place is vastly over-priced, we didn't feel the cost of the room was justified.

The concierge staff was horrible. They asked unnecessary questions about where I was going and coming. Was utterly unnecessary. The women in the staff was amazing including the receptionist who helped me. There was something odd about the male staff treating a single lady traveling.

We loved everything about the stay. The location was central and right off Galle face. The service was excellent. Each of the staff were nice and helpful. Special thank you to Hiruni to welcome us and show us our room with a nice gesture for our honeymoon. Coffee bar has great coffee with pastries if you aren't a breakfast person like me. The restaurants options were great. The salon on the 4th floor was handy if you needed a quick fix. Pool was nice with a pool bar. Access to the galle mall directly which was really helpful for shopping. Super easy to uber to other areas if you wanted to explore places. We loved staying there and definitely recommend if you want the best of both worlds!

One feedback I had is that I noticed is that there are no mirrors in the room. It'd be helpful to have a mirror for someone who's short like me.

The room was really comfortable. We opted for a standard room and the windows did not open which was a shame, I did notice that there was a more expensive room with a balcony which I guess is what I should have chosen. We booked for 2 adults and our 11 yr son, when we arrived at the room there was no third bed but this was sorted out quickly and they bought a very comfortable fold up bed. There was complimentary water and they bought us some complimentary sweets and chocolates which were exceptional. The bed was really large, clean and comfortable, there was even a letter writing station in the room which is a first for me. The breakfast and dinner buffets were some of the best I have ever seen / eaten from with a huge selection. The staff in the dining room were really efficient. We ate in the grill restaurant on the lobby level one evening, this food was OK but not as good as I expected it to be, the staff were not as attentive and the air conditioning was far too cold it was uncomfortable. In the adjacent bar there was live jazz which was excellent. We also had high tea in the bar by the lobby, this was lovely too but again, the staff here were really slow and did not seem up to the same standard as the staff in the dining room. You can walk straight into the adjacent shopping center from the hotel which is convenient, in the shopping center there were lots of cheaper and really good food stalls / restaurants. There are also beauticians and spas which were much cheaper that in the hotel. I would definitely return to a Shangri La Hotel after having stayed here.

No real view. Windows did not open in room but in general the hotel was excellent.

Hotel was beautiful and faultless. Food in central steak was so good we have nothing negative to say about food and drinks and service here.

Food in Shang palace was average and a lot of things missing from the menu. I felt some cultural difference of the men over women with the staff often greeting ‘hello sir’, ‘good morning sir’ or ‘thank you sir’ and acting like I was invisible was disheartening and I understand it’s cultural ways but shouldn’t be made evident in such a place with a lot of tourists I was made to feel less important which was very sad.

Great staff. Concierge organised us a trip to Kandy which was excellent particularly with our driver Bala, what a man! superb views particularly at sunset over Galle Face.

The bar downstairs is fantastic yet there is no advertisement for it. None of the staff recommended it and we only found it with 2 nights left. Others in the bar were the same. You should really tell people about this bar because the entertainment of live music and the actual bar is stunning.

- The hotel is connected to the One Galle Face mall. - Big variety of mainly Asian oriented cuisine breakfast buffet. - My floor was super quiet (upon my request). - Kind and helpful staff.

- Concierge desk should cooperate with third-parties tourist offices and provide their touristic brochures and booking facilities. - Though of the big variety of the breakfast buffet, there's no orange juice and/or hot chocolate, and there's no way to get them even through order. - Only three kinds of uncommon juices are available at the breakfast restaurant (watermelon, papaya and unknown fruit)

Staff were friendly and welcoming, someone stepped from behind the reception to save us waiting in line to accelerate our check-in. We were offered a complementary upgrade to an Ocean view room which was a lovely touch. My wife and daughter were presented with a gift to mark the New Year. Dinner at the Capital Bar and Grill was fabulous.

We had two disappointments 1) having to leave for the airport before breakfast and 2) the Cocktail served with dinner - it was a little flat and flavourless.
