Loved this spot for its cleanliness, neatness, and the unexpected bonus of a room upgrade that gave us a lovely view of both the street and sea (we saw some small parade of school kids after full moon celebration - we had the best spot to watch). Since it's on a corner of the street, it's a bit noisy, though. We stayed for two nights and tried breakfast on the roof one day and in our room the next. Definitely recommend room service breakfast – it's way more comfortable and the view is somehow even better. The hotel is a bit on the pricey side, but you feel like you're staying in a real, old historic building, which is a cool plus.

The hotel can get quite hot, and the AC doesn’t quite cover it, especially near the balcony where it felt like a sauna during the day. Morning is definitely the best time to enjoy that area. One more thing to note, the doors are quite old and have some gaps, which felt a bit unsettling. We ended up covering them with tissues for more privacy.

Location couldn't have been better. Right on Rampart street (although street address is officially Pedlar Street) with a view of the sea over the fort wall. The fort is not that large so everything very walkable with a wide variety of restaurants, boutiques and historical landmarks all within the vicinity. The property itself was charming and our room was quite large with a lounging nook. The bed and bedding were comfy. Generous breakfast options (western and local) that needed to be ordered a day in advance and could be taken on the upper floor balconies or in the courtyard.

Rooms are a bit dim with lots of design, mood lighting, but fine. Closet interiors could be refreshed (to be on par with the rest of the room)

we just love every details in this area, it’s just amazing, and unique, it’s like you really live inside the fort , but it’s too much overpriced, l means when l spent 300 dollars on 2 nights, this is too much expensive in srilanka, therefore i expect a 5 stars service, but the luxuries inside the hotel is not very good, it’s not really a clean hotel , we change our bathrobes two time, because it’s wasn’t too much clean, but the experience is worth it, they should work more on the cleanliness of the place

I first had a ground floor room; however, they do not have windows and are quite small. I then received an upgrade to a first-floor room, and it was wonderful, lots of room, a balcony that you could close off to make it quite private. The Bartizan has an interesting history and the location is excellent. I travelled in a large group, 7 adults and 2 children (9 and 4 years).

Staff were obliging but a little hit and miss in terms of friendliness. The friendliest person was the security man at the entrance to the hotel. He always greeted us with a huge smile as we left or returned. He didn't speak English, but he didn't have to, he said it all with his warm smile and open friendliness.

Good location just inside the fort walls. Friendly, helpful staff. Great room ( 22 ), with large balcony overlooking the internal courtyard. Great breakfast.

Sign on the fridge says that there are a range of complementary items in the mini bar, but there was only 2 small bottles of water in the fridge. Hotel directory states the water bottles will be replaced every day, but they were not replaced during my 3 day stay. Sign in the bathroom states to leave your towel on the floor if you want them replaced, and directory states the room will be serviced between 3 and 5pm every day, dit no one came into my room during my 3 day stay. I left the “make up my room” sign on the door each day !! These are all minor issues, but this is an expensive hotel, for Sri Lanka, and these are fairly basic things that any professional hotel owner should get right.

The property is in a fantastic location looking out over the fort wall and the ocean just on the other side. You certainly feel like you were in the centre of things as it can get pretty lively outside at night time but it means you don’t have to walk very far to find nice places to eat. My room was in the tower which was three stories of stairs which I didn’t mind as it was historic Building. There is a terrace outside my room which afforded fantastic views! It was very hot and humid whilst I was there and the air-conditioning unit in my room struggles dealing with this so it was very hot at times. Also, the bed was a little small with one side against the wall. This was fine on my own or if you were a younger couple but anyone with mobility issues may struggle. The breakfast at the property was very good. On reflection the target client is probably a younger traveller. As such, I would say this is a very good option for them and a step up from a usual backpacker hostel.

Like a lot of hotels in Sri Lanka, they don’t serve alcohol and there are only a few establishments that serve alcohol in the town. It also didn’t serve lunch or an evening meal but this was less of an issue as there were plenty of places to eat on your doorstep.

It is very close to Peddler's street and therefore accessible to a variety of shops. It also has a nice sea view. The place has a very elegant design while maintaining the rustic atmosphere. We booked the South View tower, but due to the weather, they upgraded ours to a Superiour partial sea view room. The staff were very friendly and professional. The breakfast is customizable, and the outdoor dining was very enjoyable in the morning.

The amenities were not great. Some of the in room instant coffee sachets were expired when we took the room, and some towels seemed very old. These could easily be resolved with a call to the reception and, therefore, would not be a deal breaker

This is a beautiful heritage building that is well maintained. The location is superb, facing the western ramparts of Galle Fort, perfect for sunsets, and just around the corner from one of the main thoroughfares. The room was very spacious and tastefully decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Sri Lankan options for breakfast were delicious. Perfect for those who like unique, boutique places that make you feel more like you're staying at someone's villa than a business.

Nothing to not like. Just keep in mind it is a boutique hotel so don't expect the facilities of large luxury chains.

The hotel is absolutely stunning and couldn’t be in a better location in Galle fort - the views from our balcony in the morning and the terrace at sunset were stunning. Particular highlights of our room were the huge, comfortable bed - sleeping to the sounds of the sea; amazing shower and beautiful balcony. The breakfasts were good and incredibly generous, we loved the Sri Lankan options the most, particularly the egg curry! The afternoon cake is well worth coming back for too. All of the staff were super lovely and kind; I would recommend staying here to anyone visiting Galle!

The only reason I cannot give this a 10 is just a few tiny things - our room phone didn’t work at first, and we hadn’t been given the hotel’s WhatsApp when we arrived so had to pop down to reception in pyjamas a few times! We also couldn’t get the safe to work in our room (but this was fine for us!). The hotel doesn’t serve alcohol or have a bar, but again we didn’t mind - there are plenty of options within 5 minutes walk of the bartizan.

Beautiful old renovated building on the outskirts of the fort. Staying for 2 days at the end of our trip. TBH, we couldn't fault it. Lovely room, although not over big it was fine. Shady spot to escape for the soaring temperatures. Breakfast was amazing and you can have it wherever you want. We had our first on the roof terrace. Afternoon tea was a nice touch as well. Lastly the staff. They were all fantastic whatever one you came across they were happy and helpful. It was a pleasure to stay there.

Nothing.
