Location, good. Parking excellent, Staff very friendly
A broken lift in a hotel, which due to its age, has several up and down flights of stairs to negotiate on the way to your room. From the notice on the lift, it would appear that the owners have no plans to have this repaired or replaced. This is a 'big negative' for this hotel.

The welcome was good and the staff were very friendly, particularly those who had experience. Breakfast was good and the scheduled time slots helpful to ensure a prompt service. Breakfast choice was good and the hot options well cooked. Dinner in the bistro was very good too and excellent value. The layout of the accommodation was interesting with a network of corridors and stairs - if you're disabled you should let the hotel know in advance so that you can be offered an appropriate room. Lots of public places to sit and relax.
The impression you got of the building from the outside wasn't good - looked tired and in need of decoration but inside was quite different and so much better. We found the beds and pillows a little hard.

Everything was clean and tidy to an immaculate degree. While we went out, the room service came in and made things perfect again. The bed was comfortable and gave a restful sleep. Bathrobes, iron and ironing board and hair dryer were available. The room had a superb view out to sea, was airy with it's high ceiling. There was plenty of choice on the menu, beautifully cooked and quickly served by attentive and friendly waiting on staff. All the staff were well presented, patient, kind and friendly and helpful.. Nothing was too much trouble. The lift was a godsend. It had been fixed the day we arrived. Without it, we would have had to go back home.
We had to get help to open the window. Help was readily available. The door handle and old fashioned key in lock took some getting used to. The handle could come over close to the key and trap your fingers. We liked the English breakfast menu but found that there was little fruit until we found out we could have a bowl of mixed fruit from the continental breakfast menu.

Lovely location right on the beach and central to amenities a gentle wander away. Breakfast was delicious. Double Room was clean and perfect for me as a solo traveller... might have felt a bit small if there were two of us. Really friendly Night Porter who didn't think I was crazy getting up at 4.15am to go watch the sun rise!
Cannot be helped by the hotel but my goodness the Seagulls are incredibly noisy at very early-o-clock so cannot keep windows open and expect to sleep. The breakfast area is in two halves- a brighter area with big windows looking out to the sea and the other side- darker, less morning light. I wanted to sit in the lighter area but both mornings I was guided to sit where tables for smaller groups (for 1) were laid out. Both times I sat in the lighter area at a table set for 2... noting that most of the tables by the windows were set for 4 but had couples sat at them. I somehow felt I was being encouraged to sit in a less desirable place purely because I was solo. I was very happy where I sat and the breakfast was great.

The White Lion is a lovely hotel, traditional and full of character in keeping with beautiful, coastal, unspoilt Aldeburgh. The interior decor is superb. The dining area is beautifully designed, as are the sitting areas which are much cosier than a large lounge. Staff were all very pleasant and welcoming. The breakfasts were excellent with a good choice. We had a fabulous room, with comfortable beds, and a wonderful sea view. The location is perfect, with the beach and fishing shacks opposite, and the historic Moot Hall also in view from our room. Aldeburgh shops, pubs and restaurants close by and a lovely walk to Thorpeness, less than 2 miles along the coast. Excellent stay.

I was a little unsure as I'd not stayed there before... and the outside looked like it would benefit from a bit of upkeep and I was worried that the rooms might be the same... but no! The inside was really great... my room (21) was really well presented with EVERYTHING that I needed and more! Very comfy double bed... warm... excellent quality furnishing... the breakfast was superb and they delivered everything that I asked for (a number of variations!)... great location on the sea front too! The price was great for B&B in a hotel. The staff at reception and at breakfast were friendly, professional and helpful.
The additional plugs were a it hard to find.... a very minor point. The bathroom sealant needs a bit of attention... but also very minor point

I’d booked a double room just for me. It was a very good size for one person with a separate dressing area. Some nice touches such as bath robe. Breakfast was very good and good value for money. I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad with yoghurt and berry compote. For someone travelling alone, the staff were professional, friendly and welcoming.
My room was upstairs. There is a lift however it doesn’t allow you to access all areas: you still have to go up and down some stairs. I was fine but anyone with mobility issues would struggle. I would’ve preferred at least one stronger light in the bedroom, but that’s being picky now.

The rooms were comfortable with all the amenities required including bottled water replenished daily. The breakfasts were outstanding with plenty of choice and marmite on request. The coffee was the best we have had for a very long time in a hotel.
It was a shame the Brasserie hasn't reopened. The area where it should be was used for breakfast and was very nicely decorated and furnished. The rooms did get a bit hot and the windows didn't open very wide. These are just observations as all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great breakfast, lots of choice, had the cooked English breakfast which was lovely. Room was comfortable, had to open the window and turn off the radiator as was hot, shame couldn't open the window more but I guess it's for safety reasons.
Room, although bright and comfortable, was hot and stuffy, opened the window and turned off the radiator but was shame couldn't open the window more but I guess it's for safety reasons. As can't drink the tap water, a couple of extra bottles of water would have been good. You can ask for more but it's easy to forget.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and general decor was well thought through. felt relaxing. Public areas were clean and well appointed. The Sea Spice restaurant was absolutely fantastic and the food was wonderful - cooked with real knowledge and passion. Reasonable free parking available.
Disappointed with breakfast on the first day. Ordered decaf tea and a full english with fried egg but received decaf coffee and part full english (items missing) and with a boiled egg. Clearly my order had been muddled with someone else's. The server went to the kitchen to check and then brought out a fried egg on a side plate. Only a partial rectification and no explanation or apology. Shower over the bath not a problem but as an older person with mobility issues I would have appreciated a grab handle on the wall. Communication before the stay was a bit hit and miss in respect of reservations for dinner.
