We were sceptical because in the past we often stayed in the 'old' Swan, and worried about what the refurbished 'new' Swan woud be like. But we needn't have worried: all the alterations are very sympathetically done, objects from the past (that white-painted cast iron umbrella stand!) are still around and the colour schemes are both reminiscent of the past and yet fresh and new. The rooms are simply lovely, with excellent facilities and the TV hidden behind cupboard doors. We had a wonderful two nights.

The dining room, we felt, could be any other dining room (in a restaurant in London for example), and we didn't much like the arrangements with the bench down the middle, although we regonise that from a management point of view it's very practical. But we had a lovely table for two in the window and all was perfect, and so was the menu for breakfast.

It’s a wonderful hotel but if I were to be very picky I’d welcome a better fan in the room and air freshener (rooms can get hot and overwhelmed by the smell of the nearby chip shop when you open the sash windows). Please don’t let that put you off booking though - it also means you have the best fish and chips in Southwold just steps away! That’s if you can bear to leave the hotel’s delightful restaurant of course.

This is such a fabulous hotel with great care having been taken over the interior making it a delight to be in. Lovely little touches echo the Adnams colour schemes. The staff are excellent - pleasant, friendly and very helpful. The food is wonderful and my only disappointment in the dining room is Sunday roast is only available at lunchtime and not in the evening.

The choice of beer in the bar was not great, bearing on mind this is an Adnams hotel and it a few metres away from the brewery! Over the weekend we stayed one of their most popular brands was not available.

The room was delightful, roomy and extremely comfortable and had everything required for our stay. Breakfasts and dinners were great - an interesting menu and our meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The staff were wonderful - very professional, helpful, made us very welcome, with a great sense of humour. A very memorable visit and would love to return to The Swan in the future.

Amazing room, so beautiful and clean. Perfect location. The lord mayor was outside our window downstairs opening the charter fair! Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Slept well amd wasn't disturbed, despite being a light sleeper and our windows being above the High Street. Parking was close and secure, although there were no spaces and we slightly worried when we returned that we wouldn't have a space but there was no problem. It wasn't cheap but it was worth the money.

lovely garden room(PET) breakfast included (great) dinner-food excellent on 2 nights 3rd night change of menu i had the salmon which consisted of a salmon fillet and roasted celery and not much else. not great value at £29 staff excellent looking after our puppy dog Barley all lovely and friendly . its our 3rd stay at the swan great hotel but is expensive .

Our first time in an upmarket hotel and it was lovely, the location within Southwold was just perfect to access all parts of the town

The only thing that had us scratching our heads was if we were to have chosen to have a meal in our room using room service, where were we going to eat it? The room had a table in the hallway which we would have had to move into the main part of the room but then there was only one chair, puzzling!

Everything went very well during our stay. The attention to customer service was beyond that of other boutique hotels I have stayed at. The restaurant's food was very good. The room was cute and comfortable and well stocked with very nice amenities. We even took advantage of the free bicycles for a lovely ride along the shore!

The only complaint I have is that the room was awfully small. Literally had to turn sideways to pass my spouse, So because of that I cannot give the room value the top review. But that is literally my only complaint.

Excellent healthy choice.

Side tables in the Sill Room were too small to accommodate the generous size of plates for a cooked breakfast! eg A basket of toast had to sit on top of the Tiptree pots of marmalade/jam! These tables with a single chunky central leg are fine for the men who usually sit with their legs apart! But, only comfortable for ladies if we wear trousers!

The service in the Still Room, the main dining room, was outstanding at breakfast and dinner on both days. In addition we were invited to choose our own table from any that were free, a little touch but so important. The building has been stylishly refurbished so that it is modern but retains its original charm.

We had a garden room which was separate from the main hotel. while it suited our needs perfectly, and would be ideal for a summer break, it would not have been ideal in the winter months as entailed crossing the carpark to get to main hotel building.
