We had a really restful stay at this lovely little pub on the edge of a mill pond tucked away in a very quiet, wooded location just on the outskirts of Basingstoke. At the pub we enjoyed delicious food, including sumptuous breakfast, cooked to order. The accommodation is situated beside the pub and was very quiet, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The room was large and the bed very comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities with complementary biscuits and bottles of water were also provided. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We fully recommend this little gem as a really great place to stay when visiting the area. With breakfast included in the price, it is excellent value too.

Nothing.

My 6-year old son and I spent a birthay special night in the hotel an enoyed the tranquility of the location and the walk next morning along the river to Old Basing. The grand walk-in shower was also a highlight. Most of the inclued breakfast was not for me (can't have English breakfasts or sugered yogurts) but there was a tasty glutenfree scrambled egg on toast. My son was less happy with the strawberry yogurt, but ate it anyway.

As lovely as the place was I found the price of almost 100 GPB a bit too hefty for one night. There were two appartements in each block and it was not clear if we had neighbours or if they were out or in their rooms. Hence I locked the main entrance to feel safe (it was after 8pm), but then our neighours in the appartement next to us turned up and couldn't enter. They had to knock at our window. Perhaps this could be better organised.

We liked the quirky rooms, the large beds and bright clean bathrooms The rooms were close to the pub and a pretty location by the river Good selection of gluten free dishes in the pub Pub staff very hard working and friendly Good hot breakfast

We thought there should be hooks in the bathrooms, better lighting in the bedrooms and a more appealing courtyard where the rooms are located The food in the pub was average, over priced and portions on the smaller size ( exception was the fish and chips ) Cheese and biscuits, hugely over priced with two small chunks of basic cheese and a couple of crackers. Would like to see more vegan options on the menu

Quiet location with a pretty chalk steam running by. The rooms were separate from the main pub in a small complex which looked like a barn conversion. Really quiet. Breakfast was very good. They catered really well for people with a gluten intolerance. We had 2evening meals in the pub and they were of a very good standard. Staff were friendly and very accommodating.

We would have appreciated an easy chair in our room as my husband suffers with his back. When I asked about it I was told that the tv was positioned in such a way that it can be viewed from the bed. As you get to your 70s this is not always the best way to relax.

So cosy and clean I. Our room. The pub was cosy The staff and the manager brilliant

The property was fine it was the food we had a problem with. The morning we left we had to wait 3/4 of a hour for the food and then it came out with other tables that were there after us. Chips were never hot just luke warm as the rest of the dinner. Sausages were white when they were on our plate , asked if they could be browned but they still came back white. No live yogurt or porridge. Would have liked more of a choice for healthy breakfast.

Excellent breakfast, Location is delightful, despite damp weather. Visit was to nearby relatives and we could walk there. Our return walk after dark, was slightly intimidating as there are no street lights nearby and the single track roads are darkened by trees.

Minor issue when we got to our room. We had asked on arrival in the pub if the king-size bed had been split into twin beds as requested and confirmed. Reception staff assumed it had, but gave us a number to call if it hadn't. We then proceeded through the drizzle to our room in the accommodation building. The bed had not been split. We rang the number and got no reply, so had to walk back to the pub and request the matter was resolved. This was done quickly.

What a beautiful hotel . Met all our expectations and more. Manager and staff to be very helpful and friendly. Room was spacious clean and in a lovely quiet place but still only short distance to pub/ restaurant. I would highly recommend this hidden gem and great for a quiet break away. Lovely area to walk about in nature. Lake is lovely with ducks. I have to mention a really lovely local man whom introduced himself and gave lots of information of area. He was very friendly. I think his name was Nick. He said the pub was his local.

Our room was very clean and obviously quite new and everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s in a very nice spot kind of hidden and lots of outside space benches. We didn’t sample any Sunday roast but the breakfast was very nice. Indeed this hotel was very good value for money for one night including breakfast for two highly recommended

I did need the satnav to find the property as it was kind of hidden away, which was a nice touch A room was in an outbuilding away from the main pub and restaurant

The breakfast had a good choice and was nicely cooked. Everything that we could have wanted was there. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet with plenty of space to accommodate luggage etc. The bathroom was roomy, extremely clean and the shower was perfect. Barton's Mill is close to the main town and easily reached by local taxi.

On our second day, having gone out for the day and leaving the door hanger asking for the room to be cleaned - we arrived back late afternoon to find the hanger still on the door, but no cleaning, bed making or towel replacements. Although very disappointing, the bar manager quickly arranged for clean towels, at least. Not what we expected from the high standards of Bartons Mill, though. Would not have hesitated in giving 10 out 10, if it weren't for the cleaning hiccup.

Barton’s Mill is in a lovely location with a good outdoor eating area beside a stream with wildlife around. Rooms are all very comfortable (having stayed there four times now). The pub is quintessentially Old World and lovely with staff who make your stay delightful.

The last night of our stay we had no internet connection whatsoever
