Good hotel in good location - i booked last minute-ish so was happy to get somewhere near Rye. There was plenty of parking and a good breakfast. the room was spacious and in a good location in the hotel. Apart from the first night, it was a quiet place to stay.

the tv was very small, and i would have appreciated a fridge - i had the dog with me and had nowhere to put her raw food, so she was on tinned tuna during our stay. i understand because theres a restaurant and breakfast, is probably the reason why there isnt a fridge. The £20 a night for the dog was a shocker - that was not to be seen/ not made clear on booking.com and the hotel were quite blase when i asked, they said everyone who books with us does know... I had paid £105 per night based on the dog included - it ended up being £125 a night, i wouldve have booked somewhere else at this price. the hotel and my room decor and furnishings were tired - it was clean though.

Excellent staff and service. A good sized room with required facilities; a nice window view onto pretty inner quadrangle

Everything was good-except soundproofing which was poor-and I have stayed a a good number of hotels in my 60 years! I really rated the hotel and would stay there again, parking was good, the surroundings were pleasant and quiet, the food was fine. But , I would take my earplugs to block out snoring coughing neighbours. I am not sure if all the rooms suffered this limitation. I dont think it bothered my husband-and I am a bit overly sensitive to noise but -it was a significant limitation to an otherwise very well run and pleasant, spacious and clean hotel.

The whole authentic ambience, some paintwork may be required but the room size, peaceful location, efficiently friendly professional staff, lounge areas, outstanding food and extremely comfortable bed more than made up for a small lick of paint needed.

The bathroom radiator within my room was extremely hot. I attempted to turn it down, but it made no difference. I didn't ask any staff members to attend to it as I didn't want the result to be possibly too cool! It would be advisable to have the radiator checked.

The breakfast is delicious. Choice of full English breakfast cooked to order. Also toast, yogurt, fruit, cereal and mini pastries. Tea and coffee and juice. Staff are very helpful and friendly. We were made to feel quite special. A period property in a great location for visiting Battle, Bodiam castle and the seaside. Hotel in a beautiful village and we loved the geese on the green! Lots of car spaces in car park. We paid for evening meal one night which was fabulous. Comfortable bed in room.

We would've liked a proper shower over the bath.

A very pleasant, well-run hotel, with experienced friendly staff. Our room was a bit smaller than some but was comfortable and adequate, with a super king bed and TWO armchairs, which you don’t get in many hotels. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner, with plenty of choice on the menu which changed daily, and a simple and very reasonable pricing system. One day we unexpectedly asked if we could have some sandwiches for lunch in the bar, and were given a choice a which included some lovely smoked salmon.

The remarkably long walk to our room, otherwise nothing.

Excellent & generous breakfast in large carpeted half-timbered restaurant; not many customers around though I would imagine the acoustics would not be uncomfortable when the room is full thanks to noise absorbent furnishings. Spacious bedroom, comfortable sleigh bed, warm, bath with plastic bath mat, hot water. Sloping floor gave the place atmosphere, so I wouldn’t call it a downside. Easy car parking. Externally, pleasant outlook onto village green. Good centre for visits to Battle Abbey &c, Bodiam Castle &c, Hastings, and a bit further, Rye, Winchelsea, Newenden, Northiam (not yet in season for Great Dixter)

Bedroom door latch lock without inside securing ‘snip’ or other; possibly a deliberate feature for safety in the event of fire evacuation from this atmospheric half-timbered building.

The room and bathroom were really clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a drink in the bar after an evening out and we both had a good nights sleep in the large bed. We liked the old building with it's beams and character. It is a very picturesque location with some geese on the green. There was a pub and small local shop.

Old photos on the net showed a swimming pool but that is no longer the case.

The hotel is utterly charming, comfortable & roomy, with pleasant attentive staff. It has a period dining room, pleasant lounges and a large garden. The dinner menu was sufficiently varied for a long weekend, and the food was good. The wine list was keenly priced, and the wine served at correct temperatures. Breakfast choice was good, and servings sizeable. And all service was prompt & pleasant. We'll stay again next time we're in the area.

My only very minor gripe would be an absence of real ale on draught - but the Queens Head PH keeps good beer, & and it's only a hundred yards away.

This is a Hotel with character, commencing with a very contained Reception area and smallish Main Lounge. However, the Restaurant areas are substantial with the Lounge Bar and Garden areas adding to the comfort and interest of a period home. The Bedroom for our three night stay was comfortable and well serviced. The Continental Breakfast choice was good and the menu for a cooked breakfast appeared to be quite detailed. With two evenings in the hotel for Dinner, the menu choice and dishes served were very good although the vegetable terrine may need to vary for guests dining on following nights – the identical roast potato dish being densely cooked on both occasions. The Staff were very affable and our stay was very pleasant – this Hotel is very much recommended.

Our room was excellent, it being in the original part of the building ….the low beamed ceiling ,the uneven floor and the pleasant view of the village green .It added excellent character to our stay.We had a good selection to choose from at breakfast and the two nights that we did dine in we had two delicious dinners. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

We couldn’t fault anything …..we had an excellent short break.
