I chose a room with a sea view, and that is exactly what you got, a full sea view, as the promenade is just across the road Self Service Cooked Breakfast buffet, was very good, and the dining room also has the sea view. Restaurant staff respectful, kind and helpful. Dinners were also very good. Nice quality shampoo and gel. Iconic hotel where Queen Victoria stayed as well as other royals in the heart of the Burton, the architect's, St Leonard's with lovely park behind and seafront in front

2 items listed as being available were not actually provided: biscuits and slippers. Not a big issue, but in my view the room should be at least as advertised. As documented, car parking limited, but streetside is free, but space may be a bit of a walk away and up the hill.

We had a suite with sea view which was exquisite. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was superb Sofa in lounge part was past it's sell by date but everything else fine. Breakfast was excellent with attentive staff. Restaurant food was good although staff were rushed and bar staff had no idea! We put this down to being Christmas Holiday and realise nobody wants to work those days. The ones that did were very friendly but overwhelmed. Getting a drink at the bar was a test of skill as staff were very young and wrapped up working the till and ignoring customers. Again we accepted no one wishes to work these holiday shifts. All in all we had a splendid time and will return again.

Not sufficient staff for the number of guests. Boxing evening the afternoon tea things had not been cleared as waitress was rushed off her feet. However they were very friendly and tried their hardest.

Just love this hotel. We stayed here last year and returned for a longer stay this year. The sea view rooms are really large by modern standards, and the beds are very comfortable. Breakfast in the olde world dining room is lovely, with full views of the beach, and very friendly, helpful staff. If you like old fashioned grandeur, a bit worn around the edges and the feeling of having stepped back in time, this hotel is for you.

Some obvious maintenance issues but overall really nothing we did not like, except for dogs being permitted to stay in some of the rooms and coming to breakfast with their owners (though not in the main dining room).

The room was large with coffee and tea. The common areas, particularly the stairs, are really grand as befits the hotel heritage. The Seaview rooms are facing the beach. The staff were really pleasant and helpful. Whilst parking is very limited in front of the hotel, it is possible to unload, and there's sufficient on street parking nearby or paid parking over the road. There are car chargers in the car park, but an app is required to use them

Breakfast has changed to self-service since our last stay. This means that it was not freshly cooked and it showed in places. Some items had gone even before the end of the breakfast period, and we were competing for some items with staff, again before the official end of the service.

The room was spacious, clean and well presented. The bed was comfortable and clean. The hotel was ideally placed along the promenade and easily found. The sea view was lovely from the dinning and bar area, where you could have something to eat or drink with friends and admire the view. Built in the 1820’s this is an old traditional hotel with many original features of grand stairways and floor to ceiling mirrors. A small 6 person lift transfers you from reception to the floor of your room. Wonderfully lovely and relaxing stay.

Bottles of water could have been added to the rooms tea and coffee tray. A coat hanger was not present as you entered the room. Not clear if you could make room to room telephone calls from the leaflet left on the hotel’s facilities.

This is a wonderful hotel from Victorian times. Beautiful views of the sea, from both our room and the restaurant. Very spacious rooms and gorgeous staircases, replete with oak bannisters and stained glass windows - very grand. The hotel is right on the front with easy access to town. I you like atmosphere this is for you, but if you prefer modernity maybe not.

It seems churlish to mention, but the window frames were rotting, the wiring outside the window (for lighting the front facade) was an interesting feature, the fan on its last legs and breakfast, whilst plentiful, was just OK.

Amazing breakfast, super nice staff and a very enchanting history that oozes from every corner of the hotel. Fantastic placement and charming style of hotel. Spacious rooms and clean comfy beds.

The hotel is well kept in most common areas, but you can definitely tell it's in need of some tlc in the rooms, especially the windows and frames where the paint is chipping off and there are several spots of wear and tear from water damage etc. on the ceilings. The hotel has a long history, but it's sad to see it being a bit neglected. The cleaning in the hallways could've been better (especially hoovering the carpets), but the room was very clean and nice.

A grand old dame on the seafront, this hotel has been around a while but still manages to exude a charm from better days. In its heyday, important Victorians would have stayed here, and descended the very impressive Grade II listed marble staircase to come down to dine. The rooms are spacious and quirky, if a little old fashioned, but the tea/coffee and biscuits are welcome. While not the most modern of accommodations, the important things are still there - clean rooms, friendly service, a decent breakfast, and great views of that beach from the seafront rooms.

Decline their offer of dinner at the hotel - there are better and more interesting places to eat just along the seashore.

Fantastic friendly staff History of surroundings Good value for money

Some decor is tatty and needs holes filled and finishing off / bathroom shower screen and tiles really mouldy . Had breakfast and chose same seat as night before- table cloth still had remnants of our meal the night before - fallen chip was still on carpet from night before Male member of staff chose to take a piece of food with his bare hands from breakfast buffet and walk away eating it.

A Grand hotel of a bygone age. Very majestic , although looking a little tired and some redecorating needed in places A lovely clean suite with great sea views. Quiet and relaxing with everything we needed for a few days break at an affordable price. The food was very good , staff very friendly and attentive.

Curtains in our lounge area needed attention and one was hanging down. Owing to the height of the window it wasn't something we could fix and although we mentioned it on our first night it wasn't taken care of. This meant we couldn't draw the curtains in that room, but on the whole it was a great stay.
