We were in the area for work and stayed Sunday night. We arrived late for Sunday lunch and the staff were really nice and nothing was a problem. The food was fantastic and good value. We were very impressed with the room on the top floor. Very big, lovely spacious bathroom with bath tub and separate shower. We would have loved to explore the area, but we only had time to have a quick walk…but what a walk! It is right next to some stunning views and rocks and we saw plenty of wild ponies. Just magical. The breakfast was also fabulous and the staff super friendly. Would love to come and stay for a longer break and explore the area. 100% recommend.

Payment system. Taking deposit when booking in and then payment of full bill on leaving. Deposit was still showing as pending (and therefore reducing available bank balance) for 4 days after leaving until it was released by bank. This seems a poor system, and unfair to the customer. Why not take cost of the room when booking in and then take any extras on leaving?

Lovely village. Perfect location for hiking Haytor in all it's glory. Clean, comfortable rooms. Attentive staff. Excellent bar selection. Good food. We lucked out to be booked in for a winter wonderland with snow enhancing our experience. The rain that followed wasn't great but fortunately we were scheduled to check out anyhow. We highly rate the experience.

The welcome and staff in general were very friendly and helpful. What I hadn't realised was that the food was going to be so good. My husband and I arrived early to have lunch which was excellent and I had booked for us to have dinner later, this again was a very fine meal.

We were lucky in being able to find a parking space near the entrance. The parking is normally behind the building, not so convenient.

A wonderful example of Devon hospitality and charm. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely top floor room. Very comfortable bed, large and clean ensuite. Enjoyed a fabulous dinner and the included breakfast was delicious too😋. Lots of choice on both menus. After camping for more than 2 weeks it was a real treat to spoil ourselves in such a delightful inn.

Excellent old fashioned pub. Our room was quirky, which we loved, and had a beautiful view. Food in the restaurant was really good and the staff were very friendly.

Discovering that there was a compulsory 10% service charge on our food and drink! We like to decide how much we tip the staff for their service. In this instance it would have been more but finding we were being taxed to eat changed our minds.

The staff were all great and went out of their way to make our stay special. The attention to detail was great and made for a really special stay. The room we had was clean, comfortable, quiet and had a lovely view (despite the rain). The bathroom was large, spacious and clean. The food in the pub was really great and the beer was well kept. It was also nice to see that they had a real, local cider on the handpull too. So glad we stayed and we will definitely be returning in the future.

I didn't stay for longer. There's so much to explore.

Stunning character Pub sat in breath taking scenery. Friendly staff who went out of their way to help. Brilliant breakfast with plenty of choice and local meats. We had an evening meal in their restaurant which was well presented and tasted awesome- well worth booking a table when booking a room as they were busy.

I cant think of anything to fault - there's no mobile phone signal in the village but i found this bliss!!

The location excellent for exploring the moors. The inn absolutely delightful. Dinner was superb

My vegetarian breakfast was insufficient. I asked to hold off the eggs and mushrooms so only received very small portion of 1 hash brown half a tomato and 1 vegetarian sausage

quirky historic old pub with excellent evening meal and good breakfast selection. friendly attentive but not overbearing staff. gorgeous quiet location with lovely beer garden. comfortable bed, towels and bed linen. tea facilities in room and 2 small bottles of water provided daily.

bathroom door wouldn’t close! no milk provided in room so had to remember to collect ourselves.
