Lovely hostess (we endorse all previous reviewers' comments to that effect). Nothing is too much trouble, whether exotic teabags or bottomless knowledge of the island, warmly and freely given. The house is a bit of a labyrinth, but with opulent and spacious reception rooms and bedrooms. Wonderful breakfasts and perfect mix of self-service with table service, the latter attentive but unassuming and not ingratiating. The experience probably isn't for those who expect ultra-modern minimalist surroundings, but everything works perfectly and is lovingly maintained. Buy into the experience and you'll love it. One of a kind!

Nothing not to like!

All aspects outstanding - the history and furnishings were fabulous, the rooms and views over The Solent superb, the welcome warm and hospitable, breakfast choices and quality excellent. There is easy car parking, 1gbt wifi, an honesty bar and terrace for summer morning breakfasts. Maggie did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable, including offering to dry wet clothes and golf gear for our group of seven - can't thank her highly enough.

Nothing - outstanding job.

Loved the North facing balcony as we were there in heatwave. Great view of the sea, and you could see sunrise and sunset from the same spot. Short walk down the zigzag path to get to the beach or along the road to Northwood House. Zac was very accommodating setting a breakfast table in the lounge so we could bring the poodle. Much appreciated, thanks.

The exceptional service provided by our wonderful host Margaret. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay was special. Thank you very much Margaret, we had a wonderful time. K&J

A great escape for a chilled relaxing break. Breakfast was superb, and Zac who served us couldn’t do enough for us great service. Margaret was so helpful and knowledgeable. Knew everything you needed to know about the Island down to the daily report on the chain ferry.

Dangerous steps walking down especially with a dog pulling you so be careful. A little pricey but we did go in high season so understandably. It was worth every penny

An older property with fabulous original features. Sumptuous carpeting. Nautical themes throughout. Wonderful staircase. Brilliant sea view from our room. Breakfast was excellent! Plenty of choice.

The property is showing its age in places and would benefit from a coat of paint here and there, but the essential areas like bathrooms seem well maintained. The property is located outside Cowes on a hill but access into town via the garden makes things a lot easier. Getting back is a steady walk but pleasant enough. It has to be said that all roads out of town go up!

The location is superb overlooking the Solent, it was lovely having breakfast in front of the open patio doors overlooking the water. We have been to Villa Rothsay before for dinner, but not stayed. While the villa is amazing decorated to reflect a bygone era and it's so interesting looking at all the pictures and artefacts, our room was more modern, very comfortable and clean. We'd definitely stay again.

Very comfortable and clean room, with a squeaky clean bathroom, and a balcony which overlooks the sea. Only 5 mins walk to the beach in West Cows. Very friendly and helpful staff. Also, the accommodation has a nice victorian decorated for breakfast with a nice view of the sea. Breakfast was lush and generous. We had a lovely stay, and I would definitely come back there again. Highly recommended in general.

The Villa Rothsay is a beautiful hotel in an incredible location - we had a view out over the water so could watch all the boats go by, and it was just a few minutes' walk into Cowes for all the (excellent) pubs and restaurants. The breakfasts were delicious; the honesty bar was well stocked and in a gorgeous Victorian room full of sailing memorabilia, and the staff really could not have been more helpful and welcoming. I can't recommend highly enough and I really hope to return one day!

To be really, really picky, the en-suite door was a little stiff/loud to close, and so we kept it ajar at night to avoid waking people. But that is really the only thing that I could think of to mention!

Breakfast here was fantastic and served in a room with a view. The lounge with honor bar was a lovely place to unwind and watch the boats pass by in the Solent at the end of the day. The proprietor was extremely helpful with suggested places to visit and how to access them as car rentals almost non existent.

They are big Gin and Whiskey drinkers in the UK but some better grade vodka would be a welcome addition to the bar for those from other parts.Quirky
