Lovely old building housing both a small hotel (6 rooms) and a superb restaurant, Thai by Ja, expertly run by Ja and Martin - and with a 15% discount for hotel guests. At £101.75 for the room and breakfast, plus £35.50 for a super meal with two beers, it was a bargain. Almost worth making a special trip to the Isle of Wight for. Hotel check-in is self-service, based on pre-registration and an SMS to tell you your room number and the codes needed to enter the hotel and access your room key. Unfortunately, I didn't get an SMS and arrived to find a locked door quoting an emergency phone number that was diverted to voicemail. However, there was also a sign saying the restaurant, whose entrance is just around the corner of the building, was open. There I found Ja's other very friendly half, Martin, who let me in and gave me the key to my first floor room, room 2. Note that there is no lift and half the rooms are on the second floor. My room was spacious, with a rustic look but it had both underfloor heating and a Daikin heating and airco system plus a modern bathroom. Ja (or Martin) had forgotten to put out any towels but this was quickly remedied by Martin. The room had a spacious cupboard with 6 clothes hangers and a safe, plus a chest of drawers, two bedside tables, an old workman's table as a desk and a fan, as well as the very comfortable bed, two antique industrial stools, an armchair, a Nespresso-type coffee machine, a ketlle and a hairdryer (see the comment below about the shower). For my taste, there were two minor negatives: I don't much like hotel rooms with carpeted floors or so-called rain showers, above the bath moreover, which mean that it's difficult to shower without getting your hair wet. There was ample lighting and some 8 power points, though none in the bathroom.

The location was lovely, I had been a little nervous given that this is Newport, but the hotel is located on a lovely square and our room looked out onto the church next door. There were also 2 lovely restaurants just a few steps away which we tried. (At Toto I think I ate the most delicious meal I've ever had in my life!) The breakfast provided was superb and the staff incredibly friendly. I was staying here as I was taking part in a charity 24 hour hike and this was a perfect place to recover as there was a bath to soak my sore legs and feet and also an incredibly comfortable bed.

The only issues we encountered were parking being a separate location which didn't feel particularly safe (and cost us £10 per day) and that we had a faulty shower head. The shower head leaked up and over the shower screen (not adjustable) and covered our bathroom floor with water. This was cleaned up and we were provided with fresh towels and the staff were really lovely about it all. We even got some extra tea and biscuits.

Nice room, different decoration to the standard hotel room which I as a nice change. Room was big and bathroom spacious as well. Bang in the middle of Newport

No parking by the hotel but loading bay outside for drop offs and whilst the hotel has parking, we found you could use a tourist permit with the people that operate the council parking and car parks. This meant we could park almost anywhere on the island.

Breakfast was excellent with a choice off a menu freshly cooked

Getting access to the front door requires you have a phone with text functions - no one is readily available to answer the door or walk thru issues. You get text a code to open the outside front door using a padlock type system - once inside you have to repeat to get another key for the room. Highly suggest the owners consider having an electric code lock for the outside door making it not necessary to have a physical key. Instructions should be updated and parking is not always available in a designated space ( 3 cars), parking is very limited. The building has history links to the area and the restoration is superbly done.

The room and the toilet were big The breakfast is great Air conditioning was a great add as the weather was so hot I didn’t mind the decor but my sister (artistic) loved it I think the room has everything you need for a long or short stays. There is an iron , coffee machine, good lighting, Wi-Fi All types of restaurants around the hotel. I am vegan and found a lot of options Close to the bus station

It’s not the property but it get noisy in the morning because of the outside birds sounds There is no reception, even though the check in process was great, there is no one to ask any question directly No luggage storage No lift There are two doors closed with keys provided at check in but We felt we were alone in the hotel during night as there is no reception or security. No one cleaned/ put more refreshments in the room during our two nights stay although we put the required sign on the door

The breakfast was amazing but the juices were finished when we reached and when we asked to refill they said they ran out of juices

The check-in system. It’s confusing and could be better if there is a reception staff .when u r travelling from great distance there is nobody at the property..usually most hotels allow to secure ur bags at the reception but they don’t have a reception..only an emergency number to be contacted which was disappointing

Nice, quirky room. Very spacious. Air-con works well to keep the room warm as it was quite cold outside. Underfloor heating in the bathroom. Awesome breakfast!

The only bad thing is the parking. But then, it is a town centre property so you’ve got to expect that. Street parking is £2 from 6pm to 8am which is fine for a business trip. Or you can park in the small off street car park for £10/day. But it is away from the hotel.

The place was great! Super central location and the family room was perfect for our group of friends. Check in was easy. The host was very responsive and friendly. The car park was close by and the included breakfast at the pub across the square was delicious! A proper english breakky. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location. Very clean. Good facilities. Good communication.

Small things really. We were unaware that breakfast was included and by the time we found out it was too late. Secondly (and I realise this sounds harsh to some) but the shower head and mirrors must have put up by someone very small! It's weird when hotels are set up only for people under 5'8". Finally, it's annoying to put a coffee machine in your room with no pods for it

Great breakfast, central location. Clear self-registration and check-in instructions. Spacious room and bathroom. Very clean. Funky decor. Great Wi-Fi.

Off-site parking for the hotel. Not too far to walk but a space was at an additional cost. Extremely limited parking in the town generally.
