The Wellington tavern is an old building and a little dated, all rooms are above the pub. You can access your rooms from the pub or from the fire escape, there is a key for you to be able to open the fire door which has to be used after 11pm. If your looking for somewhere central and reasonably priced and don’t mind lots of noise and rowdy people then this is for you. The room I stayed in was very spacious, comfortable and clean with fresh linen, fresh towels and a kettle, tea, coffee etc . The bed was ok and there was a descent size wardrobe for hanging clothes. The bathroom was spotless and the shower is descent, there’s plenty of loo roll and hand soap. There was also a tv which I never used and a small sofa. I slept like a log even missing my breakfast on the second day. The breakfast I did have was a full english and was cooked fresh which I enjoyed. Jill the housekeeper is lovely anything you need she will accommodate if she can. All staff were friendly and helpful.

The one real problem I had was with all the stairs but that is a me problem as I have dodgy knees so if you can’t do lots of stairs then maybe look elsewhere. Also it doesn’t cater for disabled people. Under the fire escape are a stack of old mattresses they look unsightly and could be a potential fire hazard something the owner needs to rectify.

The staff were extremely friendly. The bed was comfortable and everything was exceptionally clean. It was within a minute's walking distance of the bus stop. The breakfast was delicious!

The toilet was leaking which caused quite a loud noise every 10 minutes as the tank refilled. They came to try and fix it immediately when I complained about it though and moved me to another room. But being a very light sleeper, I could still hear it vaguely from my new room. The shower's temperature wasn't easy to manage but it wasn't a big issue.

I booked the Wellington Tavern for my husband as he had to be in the area for a funeral. He said that the welcome was very friendly; the staff were lovely and the breakfast cooked to order. Although the stairs/hallway were tired looking, the room was excellent. He said he would definitely stay here again if in the area.

After a day of travelling, it was disconcerting to arrive at 9:30pm to be told that there was no booking for him - despite the fact that I had paid through Booking.cam and he had the confirmation. However, the staff sorted it out and were VERY apologetic.

Everything really but the shower only pumped out stone cold water !! We informed the staff when we checked out but they didn’t offer us anything in lieu of what us quite a major part of the package in my opinion

Very noisy on arrival at 19.00hrs but we made allowances as we were directly above a very lively pub. Thought that parking would have been better… Sunday is the only day you would want to wake up there and not have a ticket on your car, so we picked the only good day to be in that area by pure luck !!

The location is good, as Dewsbury isn't that big. Checking in was fine, in fact one girl remembered me from 6 months ago - which I find incredible considering how many guests must have passed through. Although the room wasn't exactly quiet it wasn't loud at all considering yuo're above a pub! It's great value for money in all aspects and I will continue to stay there as and when necessary.

The only issue I had on this occasion was the T.V. Initial recaeption was very poor, but Peanut saved the day! An immediate response as well as further improvement the following day.

As a disabled traveller Sharon was incredibly accommodating and supplied a breakfast plate to my room to help with ascending and descending the stairs. The breakfast was exceptional and very filling (highly recommend - husband loved it) I would suggest a booked continental if you didn't want a traditional full English. There are no mushrooms on the breakfast which I appreciated as I'm allergic to mushrooms. Bed was on the firmer side which was comfortable and I actually slept for 6 hours (I'm an insomniac and rarely sleep at night) only drawback was we were on the street side of the hotel and above the exit of the bar we had road noise in the evening. Was pleasantly surprised with the chiming clock in the morning, very quaint. Overall very nice for a stopgap if travelling around Yorkshire and you need somewhere that will help you to refresh for your journey. When we arrived back the room was lovely and warm which was appreciated as the temperature outside was 3'c

Not a negative but an observation, dated decor which is clean and serviceable

Absolute hidden gem !! Had to stay in the area for a funeral but as it was last minute travel our check in time needed to be late . Spoke to a lovely lady on the phone who assured me they would be open if we got delayed . Arrived around 10pm to a warm welcome . Fantastic , kind polite bar man who made us feel very welcome . Lovely clean room with fresh towels on arrival , en-suite , tv, kettle and teas/coffee etc . Spent a comfortable night with no noise . We really enjoyed our stay thank you Wellington Tavern for making us so welcome . If we’re in the area again, I know where we’ll be staying

I was fortunate to have a family room all to myself, so obviously the room was more spacious than I was expecting. The en-suite was equally spacious as I could move around it and even swing a cat (if I so wished!) - so many en-suites are generally the size of the cupboard under the stairs! The ladies behind the bar and the lovely housekeeping ladies were so very welcoming and friendly, I felt very at home. I was also impressed by the lack of noise from the bar below. Overall the Wellington Tavern was excellent value for money!

There wasn't anything in particular that spoilt my stay, but I would assume that most people will have a little niggle - mine would be loo paper. Also, I could imagine some guests being put off by the small overspill of customers onto the entrance steps. However, I couldn't see any other external space for these customers to smoke and they were polite and friendly.

Breakfast was great, watched cleaner in the bar area, it was exceptional, have never seen anyone wash chair legs, down between spindels on the backs of chairs , cleaning all low down edges and glass areas in a public area, they are often missed. Would go again, but with out 12years old granddaughter as she didn'tlike the loud music from the sataurday night bar, but should have realised myself.

windows were covered with thick curtains but windows not double glazed and wood could do with being filled in under the frame.
