- Really genuine, friendly, lovely staff - the best feature of this hotel. So welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. - Really clean, comfortable rooms with excellent heating. We were very cosy and slept so well. - Great bar attached (with darts and lots of other games available to borrow) which had some live music on at the weekend though couldn’t hear a peep from our room. - Food served in the evenings. We ate here on the first night. Standard pub menu and though there were limited veggie options, the food was really tasty and well cooked. The chips were rather amazing! - Dog friendly! - Top cooked breakfast (served by the loveliest lady). - Beautiful village/area and well placed for exploring Scotland and Northumberland.

- It may be because it was a quiet time but the fruit options at breakfast weren’t great (and past their best). The cooked vegetarian breakfast menu option was not available (this didn’t bother me as I could mix and match some of the other options and actually preferred this!) No decaf fresh coffee available. I feel a bit picky saying this though as we enjoyed the breakfast very much and it was so well cooked!

The apartment was very large with a comfortable living space and dining area. The kitchenette had most things you would need. The beds were huge and very comfortable and spacious rooms. We had dinner in the pub which was delish and breakfast the next morning which was made to order. Was a really nice stay. The location was good for us for moving on for the next day. Would be good for hikers. Parking out front.

we couldn't control the heat of the place and it was very, very hot at night. Most likely due to the boiler in the kitchenette, which didn't have a door to close the heat in.

The location was fabulous and quiet - such a spectacular view The staff were very accommodating especially when I required an early breakfast The evening meal I had was excellent, very tasty and good portions and the breakfast was again excellent. The room was of a good size and clean with excellent information booklets about the Border area and beyond. I can't wait to stay again

The floorboards were creaking but worse than that, the bed squeaked every time I moved. If I'd have had someone else with me, people may have thought we were having a great time!!!!! It was a divan bed so not sure why it was squeaking so much.

Love the scenery, and quirkiness of the hotel. Room was so peaceful and exceptionally warm (so much so, that I was praying the heating wouldn't come on during the night). Room was clean. Bedding was spotless. Food was lovely although they didn't have our 1st or 2nd choice from the menu (not a problem as quiet season so maybe not fully stocked up and we eat anything!!). Scottish breakfast was very good.

Shower was not very powerful but it was hot. Certainly wouldn't spoil my night.

Our room was beautiful - fabulously light and spacious. Great views Beer garden was lovely out back Front seat a real treat for views Lovely location Nice food selection Friendly staff A few dated areas- but that only added to the charm if the building. Will definitely come again to stay. Have stop for meal or drinks several times over the years whilst cycle touring.vits perfect location for this.

No sandwiches at lunchtime available- light lunch but its cooked, we only needed minimal lunch as we cycle. A cake n coffee or sandwich would be si popular It is needed as we can't afford to cycle on a heavy stomach.

Beautiful location and very good access to many interesting places. Our room was clean and cosy and also a decent size, with a really big bathroom. All members of staff were excellent, very nice and helpful. Good food, worth the price. Overall great place, full of history 🙂 definitely would stay there again.

Very hot water in the tap, difficult to wash your hands or face - mixer tap would be much better.

Lovely modern room. Large bathroom. Large comfortable bed and a good sized TV with Netflix. Plenty of drawers to unpack your belongings. Friendly, welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast. Good food and drink. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and will definitely return again.

Could have done with a little more water pressure in the shower but not a big deal.

We stayed for one night, because we wanted to do a run on the Pennine Way, and the hotel was obviously perfect for that. We enjoyed sitting at the front when we returned, and in the garden before dinner. The food was good, both at dinner and at breakfast the following morning.

We had to ask for soap for the room (all that had been left was one small bottle of shampoo), and it transpired that there was no soap available in the hotel at all, which seemed a bit of an oversight.

Quiet location, comfortable bed, spacious bedroom, large bathroom with bath and shower, immaculately clean room, good breakfast, evening meals available

Bedroom window opened onto internal corridor which was disappointing given the amazing views around the hotel and the room was very hot even with the fan provided

Welcoming, helpful staff and owners. They sorted out all my odd queries, many of which relate to my health conditions. They got me a mug to use in my room, as I can't manage small little cups. Sorted the bed from a twin to a king size. My request to check out as late as possible was fine with them and they offered to bring breakfast to my room if I was struggling to get down in time for it in the morning. Fab location. Good room, big bathroom. Good responsive heating, which is very important thing for me as I have problems keeping warm. Geat breakfast.
