The Dundas Arms, just beside the Avon & Kennet Canal is an absolute haven. Admittedly the weather was with us (it was absolutely scorchio for the entire three days we were there), but nevertheless, with a lovely room, good shower, large bed, good food, fine cider and a truly delightful garden it was a blissful stay. Sitting out in the garden on a warm evening with a cold drink, a good book and the background cooing of pigeons and the quacking of ducks, it was the very picture of summer indolence. Be prepared to have your willpower severely tested when the ducks approach as a gang and look hopefully at you for some of your food.

The lighting in the hallway seemed optional (only working one evening out of three), which was a bit of an unnecessary pain, but hardly a deal breaker.

We stayed in the Moorhen room which featured a private riverside terrace. When do u actually get the room with the view without paying extra? We did hear a kingfisher, but couldn’t see it, but saw plenty of ducks. The room itself was beautiful and everything was v clean with a lovely shower. On the first night we ate here as well, we enjoyed our meal. On the second night, we ate at the Great Staffordshire, which was also good. We went to newbury and took a trip in the Jubilee narrow boat. Its run by volunteers from the Kennet and Avon canal trust and was v good value for money. I had the plant based breakfast which was yum. We would def come again.

This place was perfect and we had an amazing night stay. the location is on the canal and we walked the 6 mile round trip to Hungerford with the dogs along the canal path. The room was beautiful, the patio area looking out at the canal was a lovely place to sit with the dogs and have a morning coffee. The room was spotlessly clean and roomy. The bed was comfy and the towels big and fluffy. We ate dinner in one of the outdoor huts that are heated, the dogs fell asleep at our feet while we had a great meal. What really makes this place great are the staff, from checkin, drinks at the bar and breakfast every member of staff was super helpful and friendly. We will definitely return. This place has really nailed the perfect standard of accommodation, food and service.

Beautiful surroundings with lovely river walks. Beer garden by the river. Room was comfortable and enjoyed the riverside terrace.

I was disappointed by lack of attention to detail for little things the room given the cost of a night’s stay. Next morning I reported 2 light bulbs out in the room, terrace light not working, fan’s oscillation button broken to a disinterested young woman busy on a laptop. Shame really, potential was there but not even an apology.

The room was full of character which you don’t get with the chain hotels. It was spacious and had nice teas and coffee etc. The staff went out of their way to help us when we were going through a very difficult and sad time. I can’t thank them enough for their kindness and generosity. The breakfast was delicious and we looked out onto a beautiful garden and the river. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Nothing!

Breakfast was good as was the evening meal. Position beautiful and building lovely

Had to walk from car park across bridge on the road to hotel in the dark. Should have reserved parking available for guests in hotel car park. Check in chaotic as no reception. Check in at bar where staff were busy serving drinks. Decor quirky and gorgeously tasteful but a little tired in the room as was our private terrace

Very enjoyable experience. One night stay during a quiet time and we were very well looked after. Wasn't sure what to expect due to it being a Sunday night. Lovely setting. Good food loved the mushroom soup and especially the perfect cooked breakfast. Friendly staff. Comfortable room by the river. Thank you 😊

Just one ordinary teabag amongst plenty of fancy ones ( but I was prepared). Room very hot and couldn't leave door open incase doggie wandered straight into the river . Outside light wasn't working. Very minor things to us but just being honest.

The area was lovely by the canal.Room was a good size with two chairs and table on small patio outside room overlooking river which looked stagnant. Food in the evening and breafast were nice.

Took a while to book in,whilst waiting at the bar. Member of staff booked us in and took us to the room. Went back to the bar to get a table, the same member of staff after 5 minute's treated us a though he had just meet us with no thought that 5 minutes earlier he had booked us in. We went back to the room to sit outside on the chairs but the views were not what we thought it would be,the river was not running and thought we might see Barges.Whilst sitting outside could overhear the conversation that another guest was having most swearing words not pleasant.

The breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and cooked fresh, I loved the fact they did 2 boiled eggs with sourdough toast soldier’s which I enjoyed one morning. My husband enjoyed his full English and the lovely lady in the restaurant for breakfast couldn’t do enough for you.

We loved everything about the Dundas arms from when we first got there until we left 3 days later. The staff were lovely and so accommodating. It was lovely having our own terrace and sitting in the morning watching the ducks oh the river. A lovely place to stay and would definitely go back.

Great breakfast and comfortable beds in a good size room. The staff were very accommadating and helpful. Parking on site was convenient. Loved the vibe and friendliness of the place. Beautiful garden and relaxing location near canals and river

Closeness to trainline and some noise of hotel patrons and music from inside our room but it is what it is - we were above the bar.
