Very good cooked items for breakfast; very good location and spacious car park. Very helpful and responsive staff when there was an issue with the room.

The first room we had had a big hole/valley in the mattress. They had no space to put us elsewhere and said they would turn the mattress but in the end moved us to the room next door and tried to fix the issue for the people who would be using the original room that night. I dropped an item behind a bedside table and had to move it to retrieve the item and there was a lot of fluff and dust - obviously not cleaned for ages. Also, in the original room, all of the net curtains were aged and had holes in - I took photos.

My daughter & I found the staff excellent - very friendly & helpful. Tracey was the Receptionist for most of our stay & we had a very good rapport. The Waiters & Waitresses were also very nice but we felt sorry for them bringing Breakfast up so many stairs to our room 207 but it saved me (at age 91) from having to negotiate over 35 stairs up & down for Breakfast (with painful Arthritic knees and unreliable balance!!).

The ridiculously high bathroom mirror, which was very decorative but totally useless unless you're extremely tall!! Also, in the bedroom, the dressing table and chair need moving LEFT to facilitate the mirror usage as sitting there in its present position means one can't use the mirror as it's intended.

Great location, within Newbury Town Centre. The Chequers has good facilities, including free parking. Staff are friendly and enaging. Breakfast is sensibly priced and offers all you need. There is also a pleasant bar. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Including a tea/ coffee making facilities. Comfortable bed, with quality sheets and pillows. This was at least my third stay and I’d happily return.

Given the price and location - Nothing. Much prefer The Chequers to staying at a large chain hotel ending in ‘ Lodge’ or ‘Inn’. Maybe check if there’s a party booked ( Assuming you’re not already attending one). As some nearby or lower floor rooms might be affected by the noise levels. The parties held during any of my stays seemed to end at a reasonable hour.

We had a lovely quiet suite on the top floor with decent sized TV’s in both rooms and a very comfortable bed. Pleasant artworks on the walls instead of the usual dull ones . Interesting lounge. Ideal for exploring the High Street.

Sadly the dinner menu was more like a cheap pub one and despite this we ordered food on the first night though dining room was empty. The prawn cocktail was some tiny shrimps on a flare plate of lettuce swamped in sauce. The steak was tough and chewy and the fish was over cooked. A lovely hotel like this deserves better.

The staff were amazing- all friendly and they looked after our needs really well. The room was lovely and quiet with a comfortable bed, soft large towels and was made up every day. I had the best night's sleep I've ever had at a hotel. The restaurant's food was superb with a good range of options which was excellent value and very tasty. We enjoyed the comfortable lounge area which was a good place to relax after dinner. I will definitely stay here again next year.

The only thing I missed was a plug beside the bed for charging my phone- which I use as a clock overnight. This was a minor detail as I was able to plug it in further away near the TV.

The location was excellent, only minutes walk to shops, bars and restaurants. Had a large free car park. Our room was off the car park, a ground floor chalet style, basic but clean and had all the facilities you might need eg kettle, tea and coffee tray with biscuits, bottles of water, iron and ironing board, tower fan, heater, hairdryer. The receptionists were lovely really welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was OK good if you like a full English.

The room was boiling hot and the tower fan inadequate. The shower over the bath went from hot to cold very difficult to control the temperature. We did not eat in the restaurant because the choice was limited and prices seemed excessive.

Chequers hotel is in an excellent location with parking at the back of the hotel. I thought the room was a good size, the bed was comfortable. Bath with shower over, towels tea coffee, water and biscuits. A little soap and nice toiletries provided. Excellent food and lovely staff. (Their pies are the best I have had in ages, proper shortcrust pie and beautiful buttery champ with loads of perfectly cooked green veg and a little jug of gravy, was just delicious, I would stay there again just for the food) breakfast was lovely.

Coffee maker machine was broken but there was instant coffee we could have instead. No lift , shower help was offered so if you need help it’s there. Hot water took ages to come through in the shower but when it did I was very happy.

Location, parking, staff, cleanliness, plenty of towels, bathroom products, tea, coffee, milk, sugars, biscuits, bottled water. Hairdryer, Iron, Ironing board, Cloths airer, fan.

Small room for the price as the cousin had a very large room and it was £2 difference. We wanted a big room when booking but only had the 1 available. Lack of a lift. Knob on bath tap to work the shower was very very hard to pull up. Breakfast the 1st day was great, 2nd day was dreadful as a conference took priority. There were no eggs, no tea, no coffee, no milk, no bread, cold amount small beans, no tomatoes. Staff which were only 2 were trying their very best but could not keep up. The young lady did get us bread, coffee, tea but then the que to do toast was large and time was running out for us. Bad management by person in charge. We had a bar meal at lunch and this was excellent and great value. Light was dim in room, could do with brighter bulbs.

The staff member that greeted me on my arrival was soo lovely and personable, compared to the rest of staff I encountered downstairs, no negative interactions still professional, very warm interaction with house keeping team lady. I liked the decor, dining room, breakfast was tasty. Love the location because you get to walk through the town. Clean tidy room-good size, large bed, comfortable.

It's a old building so you can hear your neighbours walking around above you, floors very squeeky, silver fish on one of the towels (had an extra towel so didn't request) and some small areas of what looks like stubborn mould staining in the shower. Otherwise clean. I imagine the shower just needs a little more ventilation. Shower pressure mod to low and temperature very labile, I assume this might be due to older pipework. My room didn't have much natural light or a view, due to where the windows was facing.

The staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable. Well located for amenities and only 25 minutes walk to the race course. Very quiet hotel and comfortable bed. Breakfast was nice. Car park was free as well and we could leave whilst we went to the races. Lots of communication before our stay which was good.

The shower was poor and kept going either very hot or mega cold. Only one setting made it possible to have one. Let reception know and they made a note to get it looked at as soon as possible. Breakfast - fresh fruit & not tinned would have been a nice touch.
