Well trained and plenty of staff. They greeted me by name at the door and walked us to our room explaining the hotel. There were tears in the room for my birthday. The spa has mixed sauna and steam so unlike Champneys couples can go to these facilities together. Towels, gowns, slippers provided. Nice artwork rather than usual hotel prints. Light and bright. Dog friendly with bed, dog treats and bowls provided. You got 3 spa experiences for a 2 night stay. Booked a half hour massage, not many minute slots so book ahead, the massage was great. Nearby, Hungerford has a lot of antique shops and a wonderful cafe called Eliane where I had a really lovely vegan brunch. From there a good walk along the canal to Kintbury, where you can wait in the pub to get the train back.

I would have preferred the hotel to be more sustainable and vegan friendly. We were there for two days and our big towels were Hung up but taken away for washing. The slippers with a sign saying ‘take me home’ (ie. Not reused) were taken away the following morning and replaced with new ones. (My husband just went barefoot rather than use another pair) The half empty milk was replaced. You can provide high levels of service while giving people the option to consider the environment. We were given time slots for the spa that were arranged at the time of booking. However, there were only two other people in the spa and it was a mid-week October stay so clearly a quiet time, so it felt strange to keep us to the spa slots rather than telling us it is quiet, go anytime.

Great location. Good facilities, excellent gourmet menu and wine selection. Reasonable spa facilities, generous size rooms and bathrooms. Excellent cutlery and linen. Plenty of parking space, light airy reception. Well staffed.

Needs redecorating throughout, looking tired. The glass dome above the spa has weeds growing on the inside! Numerous public areas have considerable paint damage. Dining room is noisy. Over priced and past its best really, living on past glory. I’ve experienced better for less money. Under new management so hopefully it can be updated.

Wow!! A fabulous stay had at The Vineyard. We had a 2 hour visit to the spa. Small but very relaxing. We took the cellar tour, led by the hotels very knowledgeable sommelier. In the evening we thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu with wine flight in The Tasting Room. What an incredible meal. Couldn’t fault it. Personalised menus, extra surprise courses. Wonderful, innovative flavours with gorgeous presentation. Loved the staff who were so engaging and informative, they turned a meal into a whole evening’s experience. The room was extremely spacious and had a luxury feel to all elements. The balcony was big enough to sit out on, the shower was really powerful and the toiletries were great. We also enjoyed sitting in the garden with a gin and tonic. Thank you so much to all the staff and chefs for a really great celebratory stay.

Great atmosphere, a warm welcoming hotel with excellent staff that looked after us. A hotel that had been on our radar for a long time and we eventually got round to visiting and it didn't disappoint. Our suite was comfortable and well appointed and the team kept us topped up with those incidentals you get through. The food was excellent including the hearty breakfast which was just perfect. The New Years Eve Gala event was superb, from the Champagne reception to the fireworks at midnight. Overall we had a fabulous stay and would recommend it.

Couple of items getting a little tired that need attention but otherwise spot on.

The hotel was very quiet as it was out of season so staff were very willing to help us. Our room was large, clean and well presented. We had dinner, breakfast and lunch in the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. We didn't use the spa but it looked very nice when we looked from the doorway. The hotel specialises in its wine and art collections. Neither of us drink very much but listening to the wine waiters talking they evidently know their stuff. We were more interested in looking at all the art/sculptures around the hotel.

The television in our room was a bit temperamental and we reported it when we left. Also the room was very hot and we couldn't manage to turn the heating down sufficiently. Also, for a 5* hotel I would have expected a better quality of toilet paper.

Very helpful staff. They looked after 2 bikes for us which was great. The room was nice although the bathroom was a bit dated including a shower that it was difficult to use because it soaked the floor. The food was very good although service was slow. The artwork on the walls of the hotel was fabulous. The wine was also excllent and we got an Easter egg in our room. Overally, there were many things that were 10+ but a few things that let the hotel down hence my rating as very good but not outstanding.

Bathroom Service in the restaurant was slow

Location was excellent - set in immaculate garden surrounded by countryside and close to canal walks, yet very close to Newbury with its shopping and cafe culture. Spa looked good, but we didn't use it as not enough time. Loved the art work on display, a real privilege to be surrounded by such beautiful objects and paintings. Sommelier was very helpful in wine pairing recommendations. Really appreciated the food presentation, although we felt the a la carte menu was superior to the tasting menu.

Limited range of coffees in the room. The less intense coffee was only available in decaffeinated.

Good sized room & bathroom.

Breakfast pricing. Overly complicated explanation of breakfast options & costs at the table. No offer of simple toast. Why not just do a flat rate rather than over complicating things. Comes across as money grabbing. And then credit card machine wasn’t working in restaurant so had to borrow machine from reception and then didn’t know passcode to unlock. And then discovered restaurant had charged friends account with our breakfasts as well!!

Clean well organised well presented Artwork collections and winery history fascinating Cosy

The communication around meals was odd and especially with breakfast and unfair emphasis on charge for everything and breakfast and any add ons are a cost So you could spend over £60 for breakfast for two ???? Nice staff but not as natural as I found years ago

I was allocated a large comfortable room with a small balcony and a pleasant view onto the adjacent golf course. Termed "split level", this simply meant there was a step in the middle of the room. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel has a wonderful ambience. As might be expected it seems to be a class act.

It is very expensive. Staff at breakfast seemed a little confused. I ate at a fine dining event there - that was a little underwhelming, and for a hotel that prides itself on wine, there were some poor choices. I should say that in the past I have dined in the normal restaurant and it has been excellent, so perhaps large events are to be avoided.
