It is right in the middle of Newbury with easy walking access to everything. The bed is big and comfortable for two people.

It could benefit from updating the bathroom. Nevertheless it was perfectly funcional. It has two windows and each has double windows, one exterior and one interior. The exterior windows need some remedial attention. Nevertheless they worked perfectly and with the interior and exterior windows closed most of the of the street noise was blocked out.

The location was brilliant, but obviously being in the town centre, you do hear the nose of bin lorries etc.

The parking was very limited and no signs. Was becoming a bit stressed out as it was on a one way system. I had to call the hotel to ask where it was. It might be worth using 3 words for location of carpark. When we arrived, we had no one to greet us, I had to walk through to the bar, going past people with my luggage etc.

Elephant at the Market was one of our favorite stays during our European vacation. We can't wait to stay again! It was a quaint inn/pub with great rooms that feel like you are taking a step back in time and delicious food! Being able to pop down to the pub for a beer and take it back up to the room was such a great experience. It was quiet, safe and close to Highclere castle, which was our reason for staying in Newbury. Ollie was a great host! He checked us in to our room and was our waiter and bartender in the pub! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the inn/pub!

Honestly nothing comes to mind! The rooms are on the smaller side, but that was to be expected, and it didn't inconvenience us at all (we were still able to fit a large suitcase and two backpacks with no problems). The bathroom was spacious so no complaints there! Such a wonderful place to stay. Couldn't recommend it more!

We were in an annex room away from the pub on the ground floor and could not leave a window open at night, window had no locking mechanism but fans were provided. On our weekend the weather was very hot and we had no way to keep our drinks / chocolates cold. A small portable fridge would enhance the room.

I don’t usually give reviews but I thought this hotel was excellent, the breakfast with the flatbread was absolutely amazing, location was excellent, staff was excellent and it was only a 20 mins walk to Newbury races. recommend this hotel strongly.

The only negative was no one had said the parking was at the back of the hotel and there was a barrier.(look for the white wall) when you find it you just press the buzzer, but I was running late for the horses and had to park in the car in KFC and pay £7.50. Oh also for some reason the sat nav took us to somewhere that was 30 mins from this hotel so double check you are heading to the right place before you set off.

Deluxe rooms are very large. Bed was enormous and very comfortable. Bathroom is nice and clean. The location is perfect and in the town centre of Newbury. Ideal for Newbury racings

We have stayed in the hotel for a number of years but it is starting to look a bit tired. Bedroom carpets are starting to look bare and it is difficult to open windows. No bath mat meant we had to use a towel on the floor. Bath is quite high and less mobile people might find it difficult climbing in and out of.

Soft beds and spacious rooms. Excellent location in the middle of Newbury. Maximally convenient. A quaint and very old historical hotel. Reasonably well managed. Well heated so toasty warm in winter.

Maintenance could be better. In every room there is a broken fixture or light bulb that needs replacing. Bath mats are not provided.

The room was great, much bigger and more modern than expected. The location was perfect and a stones throw from everything we needed. Excellent value for money. We will definitely stay here again on any future visits to Newbury.

We were told we could purchase breakfast in the morning but unfortunately we weren't told timings and by the time we checked out at 10:40am, we were told the kitchen was closed.

The beds were extremely comfortable. The towels and drinks were changed daily even on Christmas Day. The location is perfect it is in the middle of Newbury so if you don’t want to eat in the pub there is lots of choice around and there is car parking which is a bonus. It is a lovely pub we had drinks in there in the evening I

The last time we stayed continental breakfast was included this time it wasn’t so I tried the vegetarian breakfast but I wasn’t impressed with it for the price I paid. There were a couple of issues in the room nothing major and it didn’t affect my overall rating. There was no light by the big mirror which is in the corner and is quite dark had to open the bathroom door and put the light on in there so I could see to straighten my hair, ideally if a small mirror was put above the dressing table it would be better. The shelf in the bathroom was very loose and held on by two screws it was unusable because of how loose it was

Our room was lovely, nice and spacious and looking out over the market place. The location could not be better it is really central. We had an evening meal which was good. There were gluten free options for my husband and the staff could not have been more attentive. We got a quiet table for the members of our party with hearing issues and that was great. We did not have breakfast on this occasion. I would stay again.
