The hotel is very centrally located and sits in a great pub. The rooms are in the floors above the pub but are perfectly away from any noise and insulated very well. The room was spacious, clean and the bathroom was modern with extremely good shower gel etc. Tea, coffee, water and shortbread biscuits were provided as well. Access to the rooms was available from the front of the building in a separate entrance to the pub. The bed was extremely comfortable and in the morning I had a great view over the sky and the Christmas ice skating rink and big wheel! I was shown to my room by a staff member who was polite and friendly. I didn't have breakfast so can not comment.

Loved the atmosphere of the pub and restaurant. Breakfast was gorgeous. Staff very friendly and helpful. Easy city centre location short walk from the train station. Great to have an 11am check out so I could do some shopping whilst my partner stayed and watched the TV!!! Vegetarian and gluten free options available. Definitely a great place to eat, drink and stay.

Quite a few stairs to walk up to bedroom but felt secure upstairs with the lock between the stairs and rooms. Next time I'd book direct, received a message after I'd paid saying breakfast not included but if you book direct they price match and include breakfast so good to know

Very comfortable and clean room, subtle lighting and decor. The bar next door has a good range of beers and comfortable seating. The Resturant was busy early evening and I was served excellent food by cheerful staff.

Although there is street parking outside the hotel, the local council charge for periods 8am to 10am then again from 4pm to 6pm but only in one hour max period tickets. This is not the hotel’s fault but does mean you have to careful or risk a fine. I would suggest that some form of resident temporary permit could be arranged for hotel guests. There is an alternative pay car park nearby out of sight of the hotel.

Booked very last minute, only 15mins before closing time and arrived two minutes before closing time! However, staff were very welcoming and the room exceeded my all expectations. The Borough has the air of an old town pub, but my room was spacious, bright and clean and the bathroom had a separate bath and shower. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay to try breakfast, but what I saw looked good. Only downside was the obvious lack of parking, but there is a long stay car park just a five minute walk away which was fine.

Stairs going from the pub to the rooms could do with a lick of paint, but that’s hardly the end of the world.

The staff were really helpful and friendly. The location is superb as it is right in the middle of the city. Lovely big TV and comfy bed. Great shower too! I liked the size of the room and it was good to have a comfy armchair. I can recommend the food in the pub too. Delicious.

I liked everything. They cannot provide parking on site but there are plenty of car parks nearby. Do be aware it is in the centre so there will be some noise as pubs close for the night.

Arrived late but met very friendly pub staff 🥹. The room is so lovely (and huge!! — coming from London and its vicinity). Wish I could stay longer but… maybe I’ll return to Lancaster next time, even just to stay here! I almost want to keep this gem and only tell family and friends, but the place deserves recognition. Bathroom is spacious with nice amenity. I really appreciate the cookie jar ☺️ and the emphasis on local produce from food to Cumbrian shower gel and conditioner. And I can’t be more grateful for that they kindly allowed me to store my luggage for a few extra days after checking out <3 Breakfast: beautifully presented and of nice portion. Though my egg was fried instead of poached as requested, the skill is not bad. Local sausage tastes delicious and meaty. Mushroom is well seasoned and buttery (something is probably microwaved- ding*). And it’s always enjoyable to have a proper full English with black pudding. Tea and brewed coffee and yoghurt and granola available too. Toast costs extra pound so I’ll save my carb quota for the later conference sandwich at the university. The dinner menu, also with local offerings, sounds quite nice and thoughtful. Sadly I couldn’t make to an earlier train.

Every member of staff I met was very friendly and helpful, especially the hero who carried my heavy suitcase up three flights of stairs. The room was very spacious with a nice bathroom, and was in the city centre so within walking distance of just about everything.

There was a window in the room facing out onto the street with no curtain or blind or glazing, so ended up having to cram a throw blanket into the gap at the top for privacy. There was also some noise later at night - not sure if this came from outside or perhaps a noisy radiator in the room. It wasn't enough to keep me awake but may be more irritating for a light sleeper.

A beautiful and unique room in a beautiful hotel. Everything was exceptionally clean and the bed was huge and very comfortable.

From our bedroom we had to descend a staircase within our room to access our private bathroom. The steps were difficult to navigate in the middle of the night. Turning on the light would have woken each other up. Our room was at the back of the hotel and the noise of what sounded like the refuse wagon plus empty barrels being crashed around early in the morning disturbed our sleep.

I absolutely love staying at The Borough. The rooms are so much better than the characterless boxes of chain hotels or the cramped accommodation often found in converted properties. So comfortable, spacious, and equipped with everything I may have needed. The room I stayed in on this occasion was above the bar and function suite, and it was totally quiet and relaxing despite a wedding reception immediately below me. The staff were, as usual, extremely welcoming, professional, interested in my individual (medical needs) and helpful. Especially on my arrival and departure. Housekeeping were very friendly, communicative, polite, and accommodating, making sure I felt unpressured during my check out.

There is actually nothing to dislike about a stay at The Borough. Everything you need is provided. Perhaps the only negative is that there are no hotel specific parking arrangements, so you have to use public car parks which are pay and display at the standard rates and can be very busy. As with most accomodation in the City of Lancaster the room cost can be higher but in general I do regard it real value for money staying here when everything taken into account. If your budget can stretch to it at the peek periods.

Fantastic staff, accommodation and atmosphere. We had the Sunday roast in the evening and it was perfectly cooked and presented. I doubt any other restaurant in Lancaster was as busy on a Sunday evening. Great location and a really interesting building. We can definitely recommend the Borough.

Short term public parking is available outside the hotel. For overnight parking it's a short walk down the road. But this is a minor issue and probably the price you pay for the hotels central location.
