The staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful throughout, our room was clean and tastefully decorated with everything you could need or want for an overnight stay. We pre-booked a table for dinner on arrival, the food was tasty and well presented. Our server Michelle was very efficient and looked after us well. Breakfast the following morning was again very nice and well presented, plenty of options and reasonably priced. It was refreshing to see more than just one option on menus for vegetarians and vegans. All in all a great stay at a very reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere and the staff can’t do enough for you. We would recommend to anyone thinking of booking and we will definitely visit again in the future!

Nothing. Everything was great.

I like that it’s in a stunning location and with Matlock and Bakewell being 10 minutes away and Castleton and various locations were within 30-40 minutes of the property so can make most of yours days and not spend half the day driving and finding parking. You can come and go as you wish even when the pub is closed. Modern bathroom with good water pressure. Customer service is excellent. Staff and Managers and were welcoming and attentive upon arrival to when we checked out. From breakfast to having a nice dinner to round off our stay it was an enjoyable experience. Even the cleaner was nice and attentive making sure we had everything and asked if we needed everything. We requested to have same room we had last time and they gave it to us which we were grateful for. Both times we have stayed, it has been superb and I would definitely recommend! Perk is that you can take your drink from the bar up to the room with you.

The only thing I could say is that the tv channel options are limited but that didn’t bother us as we were out mostly and only watched tv before going sleep. I generally couldn’t fault the stay.

The bedroom I had was lovely - big, light, nicely decorated, very comfy bed, and decent shower in the airy bathroom. Big TV on the wall, which I didn't use, tea making facilities which I did. All in all, a very nice room to relax in.

Breakfast arrangements - you had to select a table number and then go to the bar to order what breakfast you wanted. Would have been nicer to just sit, read the menu and then have someone take your order. It was quite busy, considering it was a Monday morning, so there was quite a wait before getting my food, and some bits were overcooked, like the bacon, while the tomato was hardly cooked at all. So breakfast just average, I would say.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean. Coffee bags were provided in the room rather than instant coffee - which was nothing short of brilliant. We ate there on our first evening, and the food was tasty and the accompanying vegetables to our leek and cheese pie were perfectly cooked. Well located for the Peak Railway (steam trains) and the Tram Museum.

Kitchen closes rather too early in the evening. The room we were in (no.8) was close to the recycling bins so got a bit noisy when the bottles were thrown away at night.

The place it's self was beautiful the hotel was lovely and the decor was amazing ,we ate there for dinner and the burgers were fantastic , we so full , our room was huge with king size bed ,lovely and clean ,same with bathroom , there was no air con but they had left a note apologizing and said they had opened the windows and left us a really big fan too , it was quite at night too even though it was a pub n eatery you couldn't hear it , there's a lovely camp site at the back too and great beer gardern with play park for kids , it was only a short drive from matlock bath where we went for the day then came I would recommend Grouse and Claret by Marstons I would go back ,the only down side was I have problem with stairs and that was only way up to our room n they were quite steep but I took it steady 😀

NOTHING!!

We paid a pre-agreed rate and for this it was very good. It was slightly disappointing as we would have booked the night before too nearer the time but the rate was double what we paid and there was no movement on this. Beverly the cleaner went beyond her role to stand with the windowcleaner in our room whilst we were not there as we had all our belongings out as we had just popped out and whilst not wanting to slur the window cleaners character it was very kind of her to stand in our room whilst we were not there. She went beyond what she needed to do.

Had we booked a second night it would have been twice the cost and no movement on this!

We had a 3 night stay, purely for a ‘walking holiday’. Hotel is in a good location for nearby walks. Bar/restaurant is very spacious, lovely decor, warm and country style feel, very clean. Friendly / pleasant staff. Food menu was sufficient, plenty of choice. Drinks menu and drink choice behind the bar was very good. Food and drink reasonably priced too. Breakfast was also very good, excellent value for money. Hotel room was spacious, clean and presentable, bed / pillows were comfortable. Shower over the bath, shower was sufficient (water temp and pressure was good) Tea/coffee making facilities were good, replenished daily. Large TV. I would happily stay again.

Great location , and service was spot on , room was really well finished and presented. Resturant was a lovely setting , we were there just to relax and that we did. Have booked again

Unfortunately my first and second choice for dinner were not available , found it strange for a saturday as would have expected good stock levels for a weekend . Food we had was great though , just third choice. With staying in the hotel we were advised 20% of dinning , but neither us or the restaurant picked up on , might have been a good customer service point if they would have picked that up , not the end of the world

Breakfast was very nice. Good time range. Nicely cooked breakfast and continental breakfast was good too. Close enough to a number of interesting places in the Peak District which we wanted to visit. On a main road, so easy to travel to/from but set back enough that the road was not an issue. Good spacious, comfortable seating areas, good evening meals very tasty and filling, reasonably priced. Pleasant atmosphere. Staff very attentive without being overbearing. Nice to have a door key to access back door from carpark. Great to find a no pets policy for rooms. I have asthma so this is very important for me and harder to find. So many more ‘dog friendly’ venues now and this is a potential danger to me. Good, safe, large, easily accessible, free car parking space a real bonus. Nice toiletries in the room and selection of tea/coffee, biscuits provided.

Could have done with an extra blanket/fleece to be available in the room. Duvet was quite light. Battery died in our room thermostat which meant we had a chilly room on last night as we returned too late to ask staff for help. Didn’t spoil the visit though.

Liked the breakfast, the room, the dinner. The bathroom was great. Nice bath. View from the window. The restaurant/bar were pretty good with a fine selection of beers and ales. The staff were all lovely and helpful

didn't appreciate being bombarded with emails in the days before our stay requesting checkin online, additional [irrelevant] information and then remote checkout [bear in mind the stay was prepaid, the only checkout needed was to hand the key back and I do not see how that could be achieved online] I realise that this [and the unnecessary login process to access the hotel wifi] are the responsibility of Marston Inns but they really need to get it sorted out. But really, none of it to do with the hotel itself at all
