This property is extremely beautiful. It’s just off the road on a corner with plenty of spaces to park even if you can’t get on the drive. It’s in a very convenient location to get to the beacons too. The blue room we stayed in was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. James and Angela we cannot thank enough for all their help- from sending us a fantastic driving route to letting us know the best places of seeing the northern lights!
As we were hiking, we wanted to take pack up which we bought the day before our big hike. However when we got back we realised there was no big fridge to put it in. However James and Angela very kindly allowed us to put it in their fridge!! However, we didn’t like putting this on them so if/when we visit again we will be buying our pack up the morning of 😊

I am so so happy with everything about my stay it was amazing. The room and facilities were incredible and I had everything I needed for a wonderful stay. Everything was clean and tidy and it’s in an excellent location. The communication from Angela and Lee is the best I have ever experienced from hosts and they are so helpful. Everyone should read their suggested things to do as it’s amazing and it’s so clear that they go above and beyond for all of their guests.

The studio we stayed in was beautiful! We really didn't expect it and as it was a birthday trip for my partner, I was very glad to walk into such a beautiful space. The photos really don't do it justice. The bed was comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. The views from our room were lovely and everything was tastefully decorated. We bumped into James on our way in and out. He was very kind and helpful, even giving us some extra welsh cakes and some of his own honey as we left. The location is fabulous! We went for a hike on the Friday up to the Canadian bomber crash site, gorge walking / canyoning on Saturday which was 30 minutes down the A road and then Bike Park Wales on Sunday (yes we were exhausted after all of this) which was 7 minutes by car. I couldn't recommend staying here more.
After all of the hard work and fun activities we pushed ourselves to do, it would have been great to have a bath to come back to but we made do with a nice long, warm shower to warm our bones back up and the shampoo and body wash provided made that better.

Good size studio apartment with kitchen, bathroom, living room and sleeping areas. Fun eclectic decor. Perfect resting place for visiting Brecon Beacons, quick drive to many locations such as waterfalls. we have stayed here before in another room and will surely return! Host is very friendly, making sure we have everything we need and to give any advice. Nice little treats of tea, coffee and welsh cakes. we appreciated having a small kitchen to prepare meals and a decent sized small fridge to store food. Nice to have a living room area with nice tv to relax in the evenings. a few parking spaces available at the house as well as easy parking on the street. We stayed for a long weekend and was perfect for us.
Some suggestions: Would be helpful if recycling bins were clearly labelled as well as including some drawers or storage for clothes especially for longer visits. Kitchen worked well for our stay although worth noting small portable hob so we prepared very basic meals with hob/microwave. Drain in the shower was a bit slow unsure whether it was clogged or this is normal. steep stairs to top floor, wasnt a problem for us.

Highly recommend! The Rafters suite is truly perfect. Comfy bed, sofa and TV area, excellent kitchen facilities and bathroom. Whatever brings you to Merthyr, you can't go wrong with James' place. I happened to briefly met James and Angela who were super friendly but instructions given went above and beyond what you would expect so if I hadn't have met them things still would have been perfect. Self check-in super easy. I know where I'll be staying when I next head up to the Brecon Beacons! Really excellent value
The fact I was in the area for work/exams!

The studio apartment was stylishly presented, clean and a great use of the space. It had everything we'd want for a short stay. The owner was very attentive, friendly and easy going. The addition of them providing milk, tea/coffee and Welsh cakes was a lovely touch and made us feel very welcome. We would certainly book here again!
It didn't have a negative impact on our weekend at all but the sofa was a little uncomfortable and with only 2 desk chairs and the bed as alternatives it felt a little limited on seating options.

Good location, comfortable bed, kitchen fully equipped and hosts were nice and friendly. Quirky detail throughout the accommodation.
Wasn’t sure what accommodation we had booked, slightly misleading as the pictures/ details are not clear ie was we sharing the bathroom/ kitchen with the other studio flat?. we also thought our accommodation would be like the rest quirky but It wasnt. Layout needs looking at i.e plug sockets by desk/ bedside cabinet/ where do you store clothes ect. Bathroom equipment needs updating (toilet roll holder), sign needs adding to the kitchen/ bathroom.

Absolutely beautiful place, even better than the pictures. We were greeted with a smile on arrival, he came out as we we couldn't figure out which key it was (it was obvious in the end!). Really friendly and welcoming owners. The facilities were perfect. Bed was SO comfy and huge, such a good night sleep. We stayed in Pen Y Ty which has a corridor between the facilities and bedroom but this was no issue at all still very private and didn't cross paths with anyone on the way to kitchen or bathroom so don't let that prevent you from booking it, it was no bother. Incredible view from the room, close to lots of amenities and managed to get a lot done despite horrible rainy weather. The Welsh cakes were also a lovely touch. Thank you for a beautiful stay.
Nothing :)

I loved the decor and style of the room and the building. It was spotless and cosy. Definitely cleaned and maintained well. They kitchen had plenty of cups and glasses, plates etc., nice refreshments (local cakes were very tasty), fresh milk. I felt relaxed in the place. It was great to have plenty of space in the room. The owners were very kind and I really appreciate earlier check in as we arrived earlier than planned. I am also grateful for sending me some personal belonging I accidentally left behind. Really nice of Angela to do this for me as I wouldn’t be able to pick it up in person.
I missed a bit some kind of wardrobe or cupboard as there was nowhere to put the clothes and kept them in the bag during my stay (there were only 4 hangers next to the bed), it was a bit chilly in the room (I do get cold easily) and I would have liked to have an access to a gas cooker (just one ring even would be enough) instead of microwave as I particularly booked a room with a kitchenette so I could prepare some simple meals, at least for breakfast, but sadly microwave was not appropriate for that. (I did expect though that that might be a case and there is only a microwave from looking at the photos, so I can’t say I was misguided. I was just hoping that maybe there will be cooker too).

I only stayed a night and didn't use the kitchen. Very large & comfy bed in a warm and cosy room, it was great to reach James' place after a day of hiking in the rain. The shower room is wonderful, the fact that it's separated from the bedroom is not a problem at all. The house itself is beautiful and the bedroom has a view towards the city and the mountains. Easy to park in the street (might be a bit more difficult when Brecon Beacons is busy in the summer). I loved that the owners left me messages with explanations, things to do in the area, and checked up on me. Bonus point for Walt's burgers in the city, they're delicious! Thank you.
Entry is a bit difficult to find at night, it could benefit from a sign as the address given by booking is not the exact one. I couldn't park in the driveway because 2 cars were already there, but managed to find a spot in the street nearby. Got woken up by at 7:30 am by the owners' radio.
