The location couldn't be better, right in the centre of a beautiful town with the castle just a short walk away. The room was kept very clean and the biscuits etc replenished every day. We loved the olde world ambience. The staff were friendly (particularly the receptionist when we arrived) and the dinner menu was both varied and reasonably priced and the food was good.
Our room faced the car park and some nights there was a lot of late night (midnight) noise and cigarette smoke from outside keeping us awake. The breakfast was OK, except that things ran out - one morning there was only sliced bread on offer (no fresh bread or croissants) and on the last morning there were no yoghurts.

Good quality breakfast items. Comfortable room and parking is excellent. The second morning, the hash browns and black pudding were rock hard and inedible however. It would be helpful if for future they inform you if the restaurant is to be closed for the night. We were expecting an evening meal in their bistro only to find they'd decided not to open it that night and we had to eat in the bar. . Despite us having a booking, there were no tables set in readiness for our booking. The staff are all lovely.

We enjoyed our stay at Dragon Hotel very much. The room was clean, the towels were large and fluffy, and the bed was comfy. We chose the hotel because it was close to where we needed to be in Wales, and my husband has a bit of passion for half-timber buildings. The building did not disappoint him and the surrounding area was a visual and historical delight. Food was really extraordinary! Our dinner, the first night, was excellent--interesting, well-prepared, and delicious! I'd give the meal 5 stars! Breakfast each morning was fine, with options to please almost anyone. Thanks for a great stay
The hotel is in a very old building so hot water was a long time coming but it did get there and was plentiful and hot!

* Very helpful & friendly staff throughout the hotel * Enjoyed the food at both dinner & breakfast – good quality ingredients well cooked * Room (16) is large & well equipped with en-suite bathroom with separate bath & shower– all clean & tidy on arrival * Room (16) overlooks the town square – be warned the Town Hall Clock chimes from 07:00am until Midnight! * Plenty of free parking at front of hotel & also in the hotel car park to the rear * I would definitely stay here again when next in the area
* Wi-fi in hotel was a bit “hit & miss” on occasions * Water pressure for shower was not great – but just about adequate * Some room furniture is looking a bit old & tired – but generally fits with the old & creaky characterful nature of the hotel

Lovely hotel in a quiet town where you can just disappear and relax. Great staff very attentive . Dog friendly too . We had 2 nights there and were made very welcome. They looked after us with our little dog. Great breakfast and food was lovely. Rooms are all unique and vary . Bistro lovely but no dogs in that part but you have a Den or the bar/restaurant area to choose from . Comfy room with lovely bed . Large en-suite bathroom with bath and shower . Kettle and tea coffee and hairdryer . Heated room nicely . Recommend for a nice peaceful getaway . Superior double room
Could do with a little replacement of furniture in some areas but as its a very historical building its not that offensive.

There was a lot to like. We've visited before for bar food, but we took advantage of your Valentines offer. £118 bed and breakfast for room 16 was brilliant. Old coaching Inn with a modern up dated twist. I was expecting tired decor in need of a refurb, but was surprised to find the hotel, clean, fresh, and nicely furnished and decorated. Lovely room furniture. Nice light airey rooms. Very comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and very welcoming and it seemed enjoyed the work environment. Food was great and the ingredients were spot on. Breakfast was great and very tasty. It was also just the right portion size. I can't fault The Dragon, and am looking forward to coming to stay for longer. Thanks for having us Charles and Helen
Could not fault the place.

This large old hotel is full of charm and character. The two superior rooms we booked were clean and functional although the very nature of this property means that none of the rooms are overly spacious. We enjoyed our evening meal in the Bistro and our breakfast the following morning. The hotel was experiencing a gas supply issue throughout our stay which restricted the menu choices but we certainly enjoyed what we had. Above all, the hotel benefits from a helpful, friendly and attentive group of staff which is so important in creating a good stay. Located in a small town full of charm (the local hardware shop is amazing) we were very pleased to have chosen Montgomery for our short break.

The property was very quaint, a lovely building, food in the bar was lovely and staff were great.
Rooms quite tight for space and not all suitable for those who are quite tall! Room 1 avoid if can it’s so noisy as by the stairs and can hear everything and everyone. Water in showers was fine but we were not on the top floors. The walls could do with a clean lots of marks and scuffs and leather chair had a few holes in it but was clean. Breakfast was good although can be busy at times and items missing off cooked breakfast but staff were great but maybe need more staff at certain times as tables not cleared/cleaned quick enough from previous people and orders wouldn’t have errors maybe.

Great location on the square in Montgomery, plenty of parking around the back of the hotel, hearty breakfast included and easy access to walking trails to the castle and war memorial. Staff were really accommodating and helpful with requests. Really good base for exploring mid Wales.
Bath shower mixer only - presumably due to the space restrictions of the loft roof - and ran out of hot water after one bath. Unforeseen issue, my 6"2 partner struggled with the angled roof above the toilet and over the bath. No fridge in the room.
