Mandy (I think) was a delight to meet and greet us. Had a few chats before we left, very friendly and funny and gave us some great tips and advice. Decor and bedroom facilities were great with plenty of space and storage. Comfy bed.
A second person (male) poked his head around the corner whilst Mandy was checking if our room was ready (we were approx 1 hour early) and asked if we were being seen to. We said yes and advised him that mandy was checking if our room was ready. He abruptly just no, it's not ready and walked off. We also overheard him in the lounge area disagreeing with another customer regarding a different pub/ hotel nearby serving food after 3pm. He was quite rude to be honest.

Received a great welcome & the hotel had lovely, genuinely attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Appreciated being able to have fresh milk in our room - provided in a thermos which kept it fresh. We arrived later than expected but were able to book a table to eat dinner that evening at very short notice. Great location in the centre of Welshpool with on-site parking. Would stay again without hesitation. Forgot to mention the fabulous full English breakfast which set us up perfectly for our onward travels. Thankyou The Royal Oak - you have a great team!
Like to be able to open a bedroom window at night, unfortunately was unable to do so which meant our room was a little too warm for us. Purely our personal preference. Side of bath had a crack in it but other than this our room was great, beautifully clean & perfectly comfortable.

Cosy room for 1 person. Comfortable bed with luxury feel. Everything it needed to be.
There was a fight between people in the middle of the night in alley way beneath my window. Cops came, one arrest was made. I Luckily I was so tired and already asleep by 9 PM I already had some rest before the noise was made. Not of the hotels fault, but it happened nonetheless. Bathroom was recently renovated but not with the most upscale fittings, as they were already partly broken (water leakage of shower head and sliding door of shower cabin). Lots of stairs in the hotel (up and down -> old but charming building).

We had room 201, and checked in by 'Neil'. Typical older hotel with lots of steep, curvy steps, which some may find "difficult". We are in our late 60s with backpacks but had no issue with them. I personally love these older Inns with there history and "ambiance". It's a reason why one comes to the UK! But..... (see below)
No a/c of course in such places....(we had none in ANY of our stays, even our 4 star hotel in London). With the sun streaming in (windows didn't open), it was stuffy upon our arrival. However, heavy curtains did block the sun (the view was nothing to look at), and a small fan that was in the closet quickly made the room pleasant soon enough.

The room was small ( I booked a small double) but impeccably clean and well appointed and the bathroom was excellent. The breakfast was very tasty and of generous proportions and the staff were great. The parking was a bit tricky but the car was quite safe. The staff were first class, very pleasant, attentive and professional. I was made to feel very welcome. Although I think it is a bit overpriced I would definitely book again as it's location was perfect for my needs and all in all I enjoyed my stay.
The hotel was nice but showing it's age a bit, creaky floorboards and squeaky doors and the corridors were a bit shabby... I thought the parking spaces were quite narrow, the barrier system was not great and the car park was cramped. The price per room was higher than others but the location was exactly what I needed so I was willing to pay that bit extra.

The room we had was very nicely decorated and very comfortable had everything we needed. The bath room was lovely and looked new to me. The cooked breakfast was ok but it seemed that it had been hanging around a bit (the english breakfast). On the second day I didn't have a cooked breakfast I had cereal and yoghurt and just toast (the toast was doubled in amount and was freshly done). The choice for a continental breaksast was good - cereal yoghurts croissants and juice.
The cooked english breakfast could have been better for me - it seemed as if it had been cooked earlier and had been kept warm. The evening meal was ok but I wouldn't rate it as the best.

Our room was lovely. Lots of space and lots of lovely touches in the room, eg, playing cards and books. Good selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate with some tasty biscuits. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely meal in the hotel which went down a treat. Tasty breakfast each morning. Shower powerful and refreshing. Good selection of ample toiletries.
Being on the main road made it a bit noisy, and we could hear the music from the club down the road. No problems sleeping, though.

Room was very well furnished; bed was very comfortable. The hotel was silent at night which made it easy to go to sleep. Bathroom and shower were fantastic; water was gushing. Breakfast was really good, plenty of choice. Dinner was nice too.
I didn't realise I had to book 24 hours in advance to have afternoon tea at the hotel, so I didn't book it. This was inconvenient as there was hardly anywhere else open in Welshpool on the sunday before May Bank Holiday to have tea.

very friendly and welcoming staff and a lovely building, right in the centre of town. Nice room, only complaint was noise from street outside (traffic lights right outside window), but this is to be expected in town centre location. Food and service in restaurant very good for both breakfast & evening meal. Good choice of food for vegetarians. Bath was a welcome addition as well as a shower. Good secure car park at rear of property-just don't follow sat nav!
would have preferred a room away from the main street

The staff are always professional, helpful and approachable. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. We ate in the restaurant, the food we had was fantastic, choices were plenty, tasty, presented beautifully and well put together. Service was good from the staff. Breakfast was also very good, with good service from the team. Will definitely stay again, maybe in a different room - only due to traffic noise.
Shower curtain rail was rusty Traffic noise evident until 11.30pm, started again 5.00am
