Heaven. We’ve never been somewhere so beautiful, both in terms of the natural surroundings and the historic building. Couldn’t believe we were able to stay in such an important piece of Jacobite history, and in such a grand room too. We were thrilled, as it was our honeymoon, that pictures couldn’t do it justice. Add to that the top tier service from Louis (not sure if that’s how to spell his name sorry) who took us through a local whiskey flight and tasting menu for dinner, and it was certainly a memory for the rest of our lives. Extra compliments to Brian and Jose for their cooking! Monkstadt is very dog-friendly: not only was our dog welcome in our room but they have their own staff dogs on site. If you’re lucky you’ll be greeted by a yellow Labrador and blue whippet when you arrive. There’s beautiful walks available, some on foot but even in 15 minutes drive we highly recommend Rubha Hunish and Quiraing.

If you’re aurally sensitive, the sound insulation to neighbouring rooms isn’t the same as modern buildings.

Magical and secluded location, delicious breakfast and dinner, extremely comfortable bed, accommodating staff, and beautifully decorated rooms with well-stocked amenities. We loved our stay, despite the higher price point, Monkstadt is a charming gem full of history! If we're ever back in Skye, we will definitely look to stay at Monkstadt again. Highly recommended!

There was a minor disconnect with our dinner reservation. Somehow, our pre-orders were incorrect for the first night, and we were also booked for dinner the following night, which we hadn't requested, though this time with the correct pre-orders. It seemed disorganized initially, but the issue was quickly sorted out upon check-in.

To this day, this is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed. It was my second time with them and I promised myself to come back every year, it literally is a home away from home. The location is superb, the house is immersed in fields and just a 5 minute walk from the beautiful cliffs, everything is so peaceful. Service is outstanding, with staff going above and beyond to suit your needs. The entire stay will feel like you have been transported back in time, with the cozy living room and the fireplace where you can enjoy a whiskey tasting or a refreshing (local!!) g&t after a day of hikes. Rooms are spacious and absolutely beautiful, food is sublime! Cannot recommend this hotel enough, by far one of my favourites ever!!! PS - one of the coziest beds i’ve ever slept in!

Everything was perfect

This is a beautiful location on the Isle of Skye. The rooms are very quaint and cosy and the house is beautiful. The dinner was also excellent. The sunsets looking out of the hotel windows were stunning.

We did feel the check and welcome into the hotel was a little cold and transactional. The hotel felt white understaffed. It is only a small place so staffing requirement is not massive, but even the one person running the dinner service seemed stretched. She was otherwise lovely.

The house was absolutely beautiful and the setting was gorgeous on the crest of a hill in the middle of a lovely field, near the sea. It constantly reminded us of the James Bond movie, SkyFall and the main character’s childhood home in the Scottish Highlands. However, this particular house has an even more interesting history! It is a little out of the way, but we absolutely loved everything about it. The staff was also very warm and welcoming, especially Geraldine and Louie. The food in the restaurant was also delicious!

Nothing!

Monkstadt House was amazing. Our room on the first floor was well appointed with tea, coffee, tv, etc. The bed was incredibly comfortable and everyone on the staff was very friendly. We had a spectacular dinner our first night and enjoyed starting our days with breakfast here. The property was a bit out of the way (single track road) but well worth it due to the silence in the evenings.

Since we were on the first floor, there was some noise from below the dining room but it wasn't awful. Dinner was available every night of our stay but initial communication to us when booking was that it would not be.

Beautiful location with wonderful rooms. Great food when we did eat at the hotel and helpful staff, perfect for our 3 night mini moon!

While the location is beautiful, it is a little "remote" which I think is great if you are in the self-catered steadings but more challenging if you are staying for several nights as there is very limited food options for meals at the hotel besides breakfast. This was our only complaint and it was a relatively small one as long as you are prepared for it.

This hotel is a must stay in isle of skye. It's history itself makes it worth the stay. This is not it though, it offers amazing food, the rooms are recently renovated and have latest facilities. There was a fireplace in the common room with old days equipments which made it really fun and romantic. The owner of the hotel was very friendly and told us about the history of the hotel and how Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed close to the hotel during the escape. The room was beautiful as well. It was a very lovely romantic stay.

the price is on higher side and the location is remote. We came during the evening when the weather was bad (raining heavily), finding the place and the drive became a bit of a challenge. Else it is perfect!

Stunning location on the northern peninsula of the Island of Skye. Close and scenic drive to Kilt Rock/Mealt Falls, Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing. We stayed in the Alexander Suite, which was lovely and had its own wood burning fireplace. 5-course dinner was very good, several other locations within a short drive to eat and recommend making reservations in advance. Definitely would visit and stay at Monkstadt again!

Expensive but worth the stay

Lovely Bedroom with lovely view as promised. We booked in for the set tasting menus and excellent food. Nice dining room. Local scenery and easy to drive to Skye’s main attractions.

Expensive and the dinner set menu is a bit confusing if you’re staying more than one night, it doesn’t really work and we all got a bit confused but it was all sorted out pretty quickly. Although we liked the dining room we found the other room a little bit austere I think the room would be lovely in the winter when the fire is lit. And reading other reviews I noticed the owner said it was a five minute walk to the sea but this is not the case and we were told by the Lady on reception that it’s not really possible due to the cows and bog land.
