The room was comfortable although I found it challenging to navigate where your room is as all the floors look the same! For me, this only adds to the attraction and if I'm invited to another event in Rye, I shall make plans to stay at The Mermaid Inn again. For my breakfast, I chose eggs benedict with toast and coffee. Summing up, I would recommend this place to stay for whatever you might be doing in Rye.

I don't think there is much that can be done, but the Mermaid car park is too small and so it is most likely that you'll need to find an alternative parking space. I chose the Market car park near the train station, which is only £2.50 for 24 hours stay. This car park is quite large and is only a short walk (about ten minutes) back to The Mermaid.

Unique atmosphere, helpful, friendly staff, absolutely gorgeous building with squeaky floorboards and doors and narrow stairs, and lots of vintage decor and furniture. Like stepping back in smugglers time. We were even provided with material to read about the room names and ghost encounters. Love it!

Unfortunately the heating system had a problem and the windows in the room and bathroom were pretty drafty. The staff was very helpful and I was given a little electric heater, but on a super stormy December day that was not enough and the bathroom was absolutely freezing in the morning. Still though, it wasn't too bad for one night and it sort of added to the experience!

Beautiful building, lots of character and excellent location. Lovely bar with great staff. Nice restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Had a large room with loads of beams. Very clean, linen and towels lovely.

Parking not easy, we were lucky and got a space others in our group were not. But receptionist was super helpful marking on a map where they could try. Large room with roll top bath but would have preferred a shower. Lovely old bed but creaked with every movement! If you have any mobility issues this may not be the place for you as lots of small staircases, all of them reflect the age of the building!

THE place to be The building The efficiency and kindness of the staff The dinner and breakfast were royal The reading room is stuning The effort made to make our life easier.

Room under the roof: hot temperature No water pressure No efficient flush for the toilets The spider webs and the enamel going away The faucet of the room 24 was not fixed and thus moved all the time The urine on the bathroom floor (the public ones on ground floor) due to a canalisation issue. The trash forgotten by the carpenters in front of the exit windows

We came down for a party and were treated exceptionally well from start to finish. Our room, although small, which cannot be helped with the size of property, was very comfortable and cozy at the end of the night. To finish the night with a night cap from the night porter was a lovely touch and finished the evening off perfectly. The food was amazing and perfectly cooked and not a bad word was said from any of our party about the standard. All the staff are very friendly, but not too obstrusive, and tended to us very well and nothing was too much trouble. Cannot wait to come back.

Our whole trip was perfect from start to finish and can only say it wasn't long enough

Greeted by porter who helped us park in the limited private car park. We had thought we might try other places in Rye to eat, but the food, and friendly efficient service at the Mermaid were so good we ate there both evenings. It's a very old building, and I booked it because it looked quirky, so we weren't surprised by steep staircases, low beams, narrow corridors, sloping floors, and a small but functional toilet/shower room. No aircon, obviously, but a fan was provided. The public rooms were full of interesting features, with emphasis on the Inn's involvement in smuggling activities in the 18th century.

Can't think of anything!

It’s very authentic and the history of the mermaid is fascinating, it’s clean and very well presented, the open fire in the bar adds to a great atmosphere .

We were in room 7 and the family room was above us , the occupants were very noisy and banging about at 2am in the morning and then they were all awake at 6am making more noise, our room was also above the function room, where a wedding was on, this was also very noisy !!! So unfortunately we didn’t get much sleep and came home very tired, so we were disappointed about our first visit here.

I loved everything about this historical, well cared for inn. My single room was charming w everything I needed, the breakfast room (also the dining room for dinner) was beautiful with view of fountain, flowers; it included both a well appointed buffet PLUS waitstaff who took orders for hot breakfast, common rooms, like the rest of inn, were all preserved & very much in keeping with history of the inn, and all staff were very friendly & helpful. Added bonus: inn is in heart of Rye, located on the most charming street with everything within easy walking distance. I arrived in Rye via train and it was short walk from train station to inn & back.

Staying in such a wonderfully characterful room and indeed the whole inn was charming and comfortable. Most of the staff were cheerful, friendly and approachable. The breakfast was delicious and there is a well stocked bar and several lounges to relax in. There are murals and pictures adorning most walls which have historical connection to the inn. This is a place not to be missed and we'll definitely stay here again.

Bed was a bit firm for my liking and strangely hot at night even though we had the window open all night on a cold, damp November evening.

The beautiful Mermaid Inn is in one of the prettiest streets in England. The rooms and beds were comfortable whilst retaining the history of the Inn and the Tudor Architecture. Friendly, helpful staff, happy to chat about the history of the Inn and surroundings. The Mermaid Inn is in the perfect location for exploring Rye, with St Mary's Church, the High Street and The Mint all close by. The Inn has the best Fireplace Bar with so much history, and there is so much to discover all over the inn. The narrow, steep stairs might be difficult for anyone with walking difficulties, but it is a joy to feel a part of the history of the place. And the breakfasts were exceptional, enjoyed in a gorgeous dining room. What a fabulous stay.
