Very country and historic feel to the property. Our room (Dover) was fantastic and spacious. I would not recommend this room if you struggle with stairs. The room has a bit of a slope to it which I loved as it added to the uniqueness of the property. Friendly staff, excellent food and great breakfast. The location is perfect for exploring with many pubs, shops and restaurants within close walking distance. Parking is £2.50 a day and a short walk away. You can’t park there overnight on Tues and Weds until 17:00 due to a weekly market but there are other car parks not far.

You will have to sit in the bath for a shower due to the roof but I did not mind this at all.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Standard Inn in Rye, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The location of The Standard Inn is unbeatable, situated right in the heart of Rye, allowing easy access to all the charming shops, cafes, and historic sites. It's the perfect base for exploring this beautiful town. Overall, my stay at The Standard Inn was truly memorable, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in Rye. I will definitely be returning on my next visit!

The locks on the doors appeared to be not too safe

Beautiful old inn full of characture, the room was beautiful and bed very comfy. The breakfast was delicious (veggie version was really tasty). Location is brilliant, in the heart of the town on a very quaint street, with all the historic sites a few minutes walk away. Would definitely stay again. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Only thing was the walls are very thin between rooms and we could hear the conversations next door and below in the bar. However, they very thoughtfully provide little ear plugs if you need then!

The food was excellent, the staff were so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.

Alas if you stay you must be aware of the noise from the bar/restaurant. You are directly above and the property is very old so the noise carries. The first night we were exhausted and the noise stopped just after 11pm when the bar closed,however the next night one of the staff must have been talking for over and hour to a couple which resonated through out keeping us awake till past midnight.

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The bed was super comfy and the room was very cute. The breakfast is fantastic and freshly made, with a choice of cooked or continental breakfast (or both).

Our room wasn't super clean. There were quite a few smarties on the floor on my side of the bed suggesting the room wasn't vacuumed or checked between guests. That being said, I didn't doubt the sheets and towels were fresh and clean. It is also quite loud. Fortunately the pub closes at 10.30pm but before then it felt like people were having a conversation in our room. The walls are also very, very, very thin. I could hear our neighbour set his alarm using voice assistant! They do provide very good earplugs to address this. To be fair everywhere in Rye felt expensive but this did feel like quite a lot of money for a basic B&B in the off season.

Love love love The Standard Inn. It’s one of our favourite places to escape too. Super friendly staff, delicious food, unfussy atmosphere. Lovely room.

Alas this time we sadly had no complementary toiletries in the “built in” toiletries- which made for some on the spur ingenuity in the morning. Which I confess was not great, however as returning customers was a first. And a small point I’ve always wanted to point out, is that in our room (Dover) the lighting in the bathroom has a strong strobe to it. I appreciate lack of head room but to those sensitive to light strobing it’s kinda weird. (But this is probably just me) Also a mirror to shave in please! I think I’ve mentioned this before. All of the above is said with love! We LOVE staying here.

A lovely old building with so much character. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. We ate a great meal there one night and our breakfast was excellent. Amazing scrambled eggs!! Our room had a wonderful bath with a shower attachment. It was easy to park in a car park about 5 minutes walk away for £2.50 each day. We really enjoyed it!

It was disappointing that the one room was not made up, we stayed 2 nights. It would have been good to have coffee etc replenished too, but it was freely given if you asked. We stayed in the Dover room which was large and beautiful , but up incredibly steep stairs! If you had any mobility issues, it would be impossible to reach it!

The welcome - friendly, accommodating and warm, and super efficient. The environment - such a wonderfully ancient building, made cosy and restful, from the roaring fire in the bar area to the woollen blankets on the beds and the thick velvet curtains. The food - the evening meal was fabulous - a chicken and tarragon pie with mash and greens and gravy- made to such a high standard and envied by the people on the table next to us; also, how easy it was for us to stay for dinner: overnight guests have a table that they can use, which is mighty handy given how packed the inn became at dinner time, plus the staff gave us the option of staying in our place by the fire to eat, despite us changing the time of our dinner reservation. The peace - the bar closes, everyone goes home, and guests can let themselves in by a side door and go up to their rooms for a peaceful sleep with no sound from below.

The accommodation is set in a beautiful historic inn. The rooms ooze character and were decorated very well. The location of the Standard Inn is fantastic; located right in the centre of the town. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic too.

We were located in the Dover Room. This is in the eaves of the building. The room did not have a stand up shower (bath with handheld shower only). We had not registered this and would have chosen not to stay in that room had we have known.

Character property, full of interesting details including the sloping floor in our room, Hythe. Loved the decor and our room was very spacious and comfortable. The location is excellent. The staff we met were all very welcoming and friendly.

No real negatives. It is a pub so it could be noisy if you were hoping for a quiet early night but that was not an issue for us. There is no onsite parking but there are car parks which aren’t expensive nearby.
