I particularly want to mention the staff. Unfortunately, whilst we were staying at OPO my partner became unwell (no fault of their's, I hasten to add!). Staff showed care and concern, and were friendly and helpful towards us. When we decided to go to A+E a lady called the taxi for us and waited with us until the taxi came. In all our inter-actions with the staff they struck me as genuinely good humoured and helpful people. Food was also decent and came in good sized portions. I enjoyed the vegetarian breakfast.

The only reason I marked the facilities down a tad was that there was a slightly loose toilet seat in the bathroom. I should probably have drawn attention to it. I complimented the food. But also thought that at breakfast time it might have been nice to have some fresh fruit around, and I wouldn't have minded the option of a veggie sausage with my breakfast.

As advertised, a genuine building with character and charm. It makes a great change from a premier inn. Location right in the city centre but in a quiet courtyard. I was there mid-week so it may be different on the week ends with live music. I had dinner at the pub twice and both meals ( slow-cooked belly pork and lamb shank ) were really well prepared. The bar had a good selection of beers. Both the room and the meals were great value for money.

Breakfast was included and ample. The room was comfortable and roomy for an old pub. Like many of these older pubs, there are stairs up and down to navigate. As long as you don't have excessive luggage, it's a small price to pay for staying in historical surrounds. Parking is 5 minutes walk away at St Julian's Friars. There are other carparks available that may be cheaper but this was closest. Keys are collected from the pub counter, the Old Post Office Hotel is through an alleyway but easy enough to find. Very comfortable for a short stay in Shrewsbury.

Be prepared for a weird charging system. It is fine, don't panic but I'm sure they get sick of explaining it. You will be charged a few days before arriving but then you pay on arrival at the hotel with the initial payment disappearing a few days later.

Great location. This is a 16th century pub....lots of character, some uneven floors but generally very comfortable. Big TV in the room Tea, coffee and biscuits provided Delicious breakfast Very clean The pub is busy and noisy but they tell you about this in advance. All was quiet by 10.30pm

I was assured by email that the hotel would secure me a parking place as i have a blue badge and cannot walk far with a case. No such parking place was provided and staff told me they wouldn't provide one. Very steep stairs to the rooms I had no hot water in the bathroom basin: the tap was broken. The bathroom lino was in a poor state.

A very comfortable and friendly hotel, great location, lots of charm, and offering an excellent breakfast. The room was warm and the bed was very very comfortable. Although there is live music in the bar several nights of the week, I could barely hear it and it didn't go on late. I had an excellent night's sleep!

The external bathroom was the only minus, but it was private, and very clean, and given that this is a 16th century inn, understandable and acceptable, and I plan to stay here again on my next visit.

Brilliant town centre location. Check-in was efficient and friendly. Room was a good size and bed was comfortable. Room was clean and I enjoyed a good night's sleep (quiet room, no noise from pub). Nice sized en-suite bathroom. Friendly bar staff and reasonable drink prices. Fantastic breakfast, cooked to order (cereal, yoghurt, toast also available).

Shower pressure was poor, and temperature fluctuated a lot.

Room was clean bright and cosy enough space for 2 people! Bathroom clean and spacious with good shower! Towels and toiletries were in the room as well as tea coffee and biscuits excellent value plus lovely home cooked breakfast included. Couldn't fault it excellent value for money had lunch both days too as great home cooked food! Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Definately stay here again. Entertainment was on both nights but ended at a reasonable time, all good fab place and full of character.

Can't say anything bad about this place especially for the price.

The location was spot on situated in the middle of the town The room was spacious clean and the beds very comfortable The breakfast was excellent as were all of the staff that we met

It's not in any way a complaint the situation was dealt with sensibly and in a competent manner But I was led to believe that you could pay by cash at the property but I was asked to pay by card that I was unable to do I was also asked to produce a form of ID which once again I couldn't do as I don't drive so I couldn't produce a driving licence and I don't have a valid passport (who when they're English carries a passport around with them) as the owner did agree with I fully understand the reasoning behind it all the same But thanks to Ed and the owner the problem was resolved I'd just like to add that this in no way ruined our stay and definitely would stay there again and recommend it to anyone

Location was excellent being only a short walk from the train station and close to centre of the town. Staff friendly and food tasty and all good value. Loved reading about the history of the place and the quirkiness of the building.

The locks on the doors were a bit fiddly. Having a bathroom around the corner for main room and trying to work out how to open with key and then which way to turn lock once in to ensure no one surprised you by trying to enter meant being prepared and not desperate for a wee :-)

This was a perfect spot to spend a couple of nights. The pub is in the centre of the town, just a short walk from the train station. The room was comfortable and clean. We stayed in a room with a private but separate bathroom that was located just down the hallway, which was of no inconvenience at all. The bar and waitressing staff in the evenings were friendly and helpful and the lady who does the breakfasts was fabulous. There's a great choice for breakfast too!
