It's a grand hotel and ideally placed for visiting Beamish museum. The restaurant is a far simpler affair than the rest of the hotel would have you imagine. It is unfussy and pleasant. They also sell a selection of locally brewed real ales (though not currently listed on WhatPub).
The less expensive rooms are something of a warren of steep stairs and tight turns which may be an issue for people with mobility issues. Despite solid walls, by some happenstance the sound insulation between rooms is poor. The poor chap I heard sneezing as if he were in my room would have had to put up with my snoring all night.

From the moment we arrived, the reception staff, restaurant staff and house staff were superb. Nothing was too much trouble, we were all made welcome and our comfort was their main objective. The grounds and setting were perfect. And as we had booked here to visit the Beamish Museum on 2 consecutive days and only being 1 mile away was spot on. We also got 25% discount to the museum for staying at the hotel. It was one of the quietest hotels we have stayed in regarding slamming internal doors and as we were facing the car park expected noise from there, but again nothing that disturbs our sleep.
The door to our room was catching the door frame, making it impossible to close the foor without making a noise, cobwebs could be seen at night when lying in bed in corners of the ceiling and walls. This did not spoil our visit. We have stayed in cheaper hotels that included breakfast £8.50 was a lot of money for small box of cereal, toast and coffee/tea.

Location was excellent for Beamish village. Food was of a high standard and good selection, portions were large. Room was very clean and serviced each day, and size was good.
Only a slight comment, not really a fan of UHT milk, but understand fresh milk would be difficult to manage and control safely. A walk in shower would have been preferable as guest mobility is not always 100%. No reflection on booking as was not specifically requested. I understand that when large functions are going on, such as proms nights, late night night noise can be a problem particularly when it is hot and the windows have to be open.

Perfect location next to Beamish Living Museum. Hotel gave 15% discount code on Beamish entry ticket. Hotel very grand looking, retaintained it's charm inside too. Clean & tidy nice entrance & lounge area. Friendly reception & staff throughout. Wedding fare on so was able to see how the dining rooms were set up for a wedding. Lovely grounds for wedding photos. Booked cheapest room as only staying one night in twin room. Nice size, big comfy beds, clean bedding. Soft big bath towels. Good shower. Nice complimetary toiletries. Tea/coffee with biscuits & bottle of water each. Ate in the Stable Barn restaurant which is a separate building outside. Lovely charm in the main bar room & dining area. Food high standard, plenty of choice, well presented & reasonably priced. Allergy awareness. Excellent choices for breakfast. Will definitely book to stay again & especially when revisiting Beamish Museum as entry to Beamish is unlimited for a year after buying entrance ticket.
Small issue, easily resolved. Only 1 mirror which is in bathroom with shaver plug socket only. No mirror in main room for using hairdryer & doing hair. Would benefit from full length mirror by door where iron kept as a plug socket there.

The location. Set in beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere of the building. The room service and reception staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Evening meal was better than we expected and staff were helpful and polite.
Our room was next to the kitchens and having a window open during a very warm period meant that we were subjected to the humming and buzzing of kitchen fans/equipment etc. The room was very warm overnight and having an open window being the only way to try and keep moderately cool we were subjected to the aforementioned noise from the kitchens. The member of staff who met us for breakfast was less than welcoming - responding to our friendly 'Good Morning' with 'Room number' and then giving us instructions about how to get breakfast at incredible speed. She was 'curt' might be the best way to describe her treatment of us and other guests.

Upon seeing the hotel on arrival it was a wow! The room was clean and comfortable. The converted stable block housed the bar and restaurant and was a very welcoming sight after a full day at the Beamish Village Museum (less than 5 mins away and a fantastic day out!). The staff in the stable block were very helpful (a special mention to the lady I believe was the manager (she had red hair) and the young lady behind the bar (long blonde hair) both went out of their way to make sure everything was ok). The restaurant for dinner had a fabulous choice of food, it took a while to decide what to have! Same with breakfast, everything was catered for! Overall a fabulous choice for our short break!
The windows outside could have the paint updated, but that’s purely cosmetic! Nothing else to comment on here!

Lovely location. Breakfast was good - plenty of choice, both hot and cold. Lunch in The Stables was delicious. Very friendly helpful staff both in the hotel & The Stables.
No mirror in the room. One in bathroom but nowhere to be able to dry/style hair. A mirror on the dressing table would help. Lack of facilities to hang clothes. Hangers provided but nowhere in the "cupboard" to hang & only 1 small hook fastened to the side of it - see photos. Wonderful hotel on the surface bit scratch deeper & it's not quite as good as expected.

We chose this hotel as we were to visit Beamish Open Air Museum after our overnight stay. Arrived 4pm, easy and pleasant check in; nice reception staff. Pre-arrival communications with reception staff were very helpful in booking our evening meal and requesting a ground floor room as their lift was out of order. All requests carried out. Lovely room. Cosy but had all we could need for an overnight stay. Beautiful en suite bathroom with shower. The cleanliness throughout the hotel was top notch. We dined at The Stables for our evening meal. I had in mind the restaurant would be "posher" than it is. It's quite a rustic feel; wooden tables with an eclectic mix of dining chairs. No tablecloths. Very functional. But suits the surroundings as it is former stables. The food was delicious, which is the most important thing anyway. The cocktails fabulous. But I did feel the service left a little to be desired. Keeping an eye on customers empty glasses to prompt re-orders for instance. We had to wave a waitress over a few times. A couple of other small issues but overall we did enjoy our meals. The Tiramisu Brownie was divine. My Vegan Ramen was fab (I'm a vegetarian but the Ramen was the only meat free main dish). Certainly enjoyed it. Plans are to have more meat free dishes available. Hubby had a medium sirloin - fab, too. Food and drinks prices aren't out of the way and the later busy-ness of the restaurant proved it's a popular choice. We dined at 5.30pm; quiet at that time but by the time we left the bar after our meal (8.30pm-ish) it was very busy. Breakfast was in The Stables restaurant. Continental breakfast offered together with full English and a great variety of other hot options (Eggs Benedict etc). Lovely breakfast. Exactly the right sized portion. Very enjoyable. We'll certainly consider staying again as the hotel has lovely, comfortable rooms as well as the restaurant and bar.

The property was stunning! The ground were absolutely lovely. The stables bar was great and a lovely place to sit outside in the sunshine. The staff from reception to the stables bar and breakfast in the morning were excellent. So friendly and kind they really made our stay enjoyable.
There wasn’t much not to like but the corridors in the house could be more clearer as we got lost a few times. Also there was dead wasps on the window cill in the corridors as well. I’m nit picking now. Everything was great.

Lovely comfortable room, friendly helpful staff in all areas. Grounds are beautiful for an evening stroll . Outside covered area for having a drink. Quite peaceful and relaxing.
This is our second visit . On our first visit we enjoyed evening meals in the Stable restaurant, this time we were very disappointed as it’s definitely changed . The meals aren’t as good and the menu never changes , as a vegetarian it was very limited and we decided to stop eating there. Spoiled our visit as the hotel is lovely.
