Very clean. Excellent staff. Lovely food. Very close to the sea.

Room was cold on arrival after a 51/2 hour journey, heating had been turned off, so had to ask for a heater supplied by the night porter who’s was very helpful. Went to the bar after an evening meal but couldn’t stay as it was cold. Stayed in a room on the top floor room 22. The shower had low shower pressure

First time we have stayed at the Saxonville and have got to say think we have found a little gem that we loved. The hotel was clean, spacious had a separate car park which can be an issue in Whitby. The room was lovely very clean good tea and coffee making facilities. We had a great day and night in Whitby and the next morning we came down to a lovely breakfast. The staff who were lovely served you and catered for your every need. My wife was really impressed because the tea was served from sterling silver teapot etc which was very traditional. Such a lovely touch. We loved it so much, we have already booked for the same time next year. Many thanks Anthony & Katie

This is a gem of a hotel. Excellent friendly welcoming staff. The hotel has its own car park virtually opposite with room for about 12 cars. The hotel situated in a quiet area is about a ten minute walk from the centre of Whitby. Our room was spacious..........breakfast was excellent with a good choice ie full English, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, kippers etc. We had dinner at the hotel twice during our three night stay which was a varied choice. Both breakfast and dinner was served at your table - silver service - couldn't be faulted.

Everything was perfect.

The Breakfast was exceptional. Liked the waitress service. Dining room was very nice clean and tidy. Waitress staff absolutely first class. Had evening meal on one of the nights. Was very nice well prepared and felt relaxed. Advantage own car park just opposite the hotel.

The room was ok a little dated would benefit from a touch of modernisation. Was at the top of the hotel lots of stairs. Unfortunately my daughter had fractured a bone in her foot the previous day before our journey to the hotel. It was just unfortunate as we could have done with a lower room. its a lovely old building but think a little updating would appeal to a wider range of people.

Good choice for breakfast and dinner. Room was comfortable and very clean with a good hospitality tray and the option of fresh milk if required. Had a bath as well as a shower . Free parking was appreciated when some hotels charge their clients for parking. Very nice dining room and staff generally were friendly and helpful. Didn't use the car during our stay as there is a good bus service running up and down the coast.

TV remote was a bit temperamental and TV could have been bigger with more free channels like we have at home. Room was not very large, but it was adequate and a nicer outlook would have been good, but we didn't go there to stay in our room.

The hotel is situated away from the main town which can easily be reached with a good 10 minute walk. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The room was bigger than we expected and very clean. There is parking space but if you want to get a place I would advise getting there early as there are limited spaces.

The signal for the tv in our room was very poor and we gave up trying to watch it after 5 minutes (this was at 8:30pm) after we had been out all day as we normally would not watch tv while on holiday. I found the bed I slept in to be uncomfortable but my partner found her bed to be ok and she had a fantastic night's sleep.

After a mix up with another property and our dates, we booked the Saxonville by accident, as we had nowhere to stay. But what a happy accident it was! We were warmly welcomed, told about all the important info - breakfast times, where all the facilities were and then we went to our room. The room was spacious and incredibly clean, with robes and slippers, towels, catering tray, hairdryer, fan (bonus!) and lots of other important little touches. The room information guide was very useful and the hotel is a 5 min walk from the seafront. Breakfast was impeccable - table service, a huge selection of breakfast food AND a wonderfully cooked full English breakfast (the option for a newspaper at breakfast was a nice touch of class :)). Staff were amazing and a real credit to a brilliant, traditional and well-led hotel.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable. It has the necessary facilities to have a pleasant stay. The age of the building and some of the furniture such as the clocks imbue it with a traditional and intimate spirit. I confirmed that perception when I found out that the hotel is managed by the same family for 4 generations. It is located very close to the seaside and offers a very generous breakfast by very kind waiters.

The location of the hotel is very convenient if you are making an extensive visit, want to walk along the seaside and get to know Whitby outside of the Old Town. For very short visits it may be necessary to use taxis to get there and leave. It's not far from Old Town but not close either. This detail, however, does not detract from its advantages such as cleanliness and traditional spirit.

This is a charming and homely hotel. There is a lot of attention to detail, especially in the rooms, and a real focus on customer service. It was right up our street. We loved the decor and sense of history about it - when things were done properly eg the breakfast table was beautifully set out, with waitress service. Great parking was a bonus.

The only issue was the water pressure in the bathroom shower. But this isn’t uncommon in buildings of this nature, and didn’t detract in any way from the enjoyment of our stay.

Outstanding staff - the friendliest, most helpful staff ever (and we have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years). Nothing was too much trouble and we really felt that we were welcome guests. Please convey this information back to them. We also enjoyed our meals (I loved the guinea fowl) and the lovely dining room and table settings.

The bathroom facilities were adequate but not up to the standard normally experienced in a 4 star hotel. I found the shower a bit difficult to operate and there weren't enough surfaces to put toilet bags etc. Everything was clean and well maintained however and the room was comfortable.
