This is where to eat, drink and sleep if you are visiting Winchester. The bedrooms are beautifully designed, and the beds themselves so comfortable that you'll have to make a real effort to go down for breakfast. And what a breakfast! I watched my fellow guests and their children tucking in to the Westgate Breakfast, a full English that renders any further meals unnecessary for the rest of the day. My more humble scrambled eggs and bacon were beyond criticism, flawlessly cooked and presented. The front-of-house staff are all welcoming, friendly and efficient. They know they are working in the hospitality industry, and they live up to it. The building has no lift, and stairs to its upper rooms ( 3&4) are steep. Also, make sure to find out how to operate the bedroom heating. I couldn't work it out and had a cold night. So for comfort, value for money, professionalism and surroundings, ten out of ten to the management and staff of the Westgate Pub and Hotel, Winchester. Thank you all.

Not being able to stay longer.

The Westgate hotel is in a great position in Winchester, the breakfast was really nice (maybe some pastries/croissants could be made available?).

Some guests could struggle a little with the steep stairs, If you travel to the hotel by car be prepared to pay £17 per day to park locally and have to return to your vehicle daily to top-up the 24 hour ticket. As there are a fair number of hotels in Winchester you'd think the local council could come up with some sort of agreement with the hotels for long term guests?(this is obviously no fault of the hotel). You can't even use any of the 'Park and Rides' as cars can't be left overnight.

The location is excellent, being yards from the courts, although (of course) that means that you might get woken up by the early morning traffic. This is a nice little pub with rooms, a minute's walk to the first old buildings, and no more than 5 minutes downhill into the slightly busier parts of town. Nice selection of beer on tap, breakfast perfectly good.

Inevitably, if you're on a road junction, there'll be traffic noise, but that's a minor issue. Breakfast was nice, but a little slow. Stairs are narrow and twisty so if you have mobility issues, you might need to warn them.

The bed was incredibly comfy, the room was spacious and well laid out the shower was fierce and gave you a wonderful experience if you like a forceful shower very cleansing. The room amenities were well laid out with period furniture and the the fan in the room had a timer so very convenient too on a hot summer's day. Incredible service from the staff who were so friendly, and with such a quaint intriguing building in the perfect spot for local foot tours of the city. Absolutely amazing and already missing the wonderful view from the room. Top marks!

Nothing to add here, could not have asked for more during my stay. Perhaps a water cooler in the main corridor might be a nice touch for when hit with late night/early morning thirst if you finish the arguably ample water provided per day, however invariably I should have brought more of my own reasonably speaking.

I had exceptional service from the manager, as my card wasn’t working, so he directed me to a place that would take cash for dinner. Parking is across the road at the public parking garage – don’t park on the street, you get fined. There was a classic English pub, which looked so inviting. I was lucky to be part of their breakfast launch, which was free. It was a fabulous breakfast, and I didn’t need lunch after that! The hotel is centrally located, so walking to the sights, such as the Cathedral, is possible. Would definitely go back again.

The room was so cosy, and the bed and pillows were super! Best nights sleep we've had when going away! We were on the top floor and you'd never have known there was a pub with a live singer on the ground floor! The building is beautiful and the room just felt so homely. Loved the bathroom and the old fashioned toilet with the tank on the wall. Shower was great! Fireplace in the room is lovely, and the view out the window was amazing.

A few finishing touches would make it perfect. The fan looked like it needed attaching to the wall again. The hand soap bottle looked like it needed cleaning as had marks up it. Just made you aware that it wasn't all new between visitors. There was quite a gap under one end of the bedroom door, but that did make us laugh. Could have done with more than the one bottle of water for the kettle with the size of the cups, but that's just personal taste with how many cups of tea we have in a morning! Maybe a little lamp on the table with the tea making things would be handy for in the evening.

The location was ideal. Close to the town centre and all other amenities. The room was lovely. Very spacious with everything you'd need for your stay. I ate in the restaurant the evening I arrived and was really impressed with the menu options and what I ate was delicious.

I really can't think of anything I didn't like. Everyone was really friendly and helpful which made my stay stress free and relaxing. My only niggle and it is just a niggle was that a lot of places in Winchester wouldn't accept cash. Having to do a card transaction for say a packet of crisps seemed a bit over the top.

The staff were friendly and accommodated my every request. The bed was very comfortable. The view from the window was pleasing. The location for walking on High St was perfect. We only ate breakfast at the pub on the first floor and it was very good. Dogs were allowed in the pub which I think is great. It is an older building, a Pub Inn, which fits in with historic old England. Because of its age It has no elevator, but that did not bother me and I'm 80 years old. Yes I would come again.

Very helpful staff, good atmosphere. Great room, quirky due to age of property, especially stairs, but incredibly comfortable and well designed room. Bed, pillows and towels of the highest quality; excellent night's sleep and no disturbances. Great central location near station ad High Street. The breakfast quality was excellent as was the service. Good tea, coffee (coffee bags- excellent) and fresh milk.

biscuits in the room would have been good. Some light bulbs need changing, cleaning behind cabinets needed

Location fantastic Definitely value for money and I've stayed in some top Hotels .The Relais..Hilton..Hotel Du Vin..then I question myself .your only sleeping there really so why she'll out unnecessary money as here you get polite staff . attentive..nice comfy room and I had an open window look out balcony...very nice, I can't believe the price also includes a well cooked breakfast

Stairs maybe a bit difficult for those that struggle with mobility as quite narrow..but that's just as it's an old building
