The location was great and very close to York city centre. The mattress on the bed was very comfortable, and all staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.
The pillows on the bed were very small and were not standard side pillows, especially for such a large bed. Additionally, the fire alarm went off at 9:00am on bank holiday Monday for at least 45 minutes. Although this was acknowledged by an apology letter from the manager posted through the room door, I feel it would have been nice to offer a free drink/small discount (considering this was supposed to be a holiday and a very rare opportunity to have a lie-in for me!).

Bar area - seating area is well designed creating a cosy feel for families and groups. Sofas were very comfy, enjoyed the pool table despite being so expensive (should be £1 a game not £2) Grounds from what we saw were well kept. The entrance to the hotel suites was very grand, adding to the feeling of quality and style.
Breakfast was tasty and enjoyable, we would advice that more staff is needed. It was understandable to assume that some staff were new as their behaviour seemed less confident, which created an awkward atmosphere and delayed service. The bed in the first hotel suite was extremely hard, so we didn't feel very rested. We had ample space and enjoyed the extra room but we discovered the coffee machine leaked after one use. Although the view from the window wasn't amazing...the sunlight would have made a big difference. Unfortunately the TV was placed there instead. We strongly suggest you attach a glow in the dark sticker to the step leading to the bathroom, it's dangerous should you need to use the bathroom during the night.

The design of the hotel was lovely! The sweeping staircase was impressive and I had a look in the library which was so niche! The staff were super friendly and helpful and made me feel most welcome. If I had not been offered a free drink upon arrival, I'm not sure if I would have eaten in the evening in the hotel but this was important for me as a solo traveller that I felt comfortable to go and get the free drink and look at the menu. Oh my goodness the chips were the best I have ever had! The breakfast was so good too! Plenty of choice.
The second day, the coffee machine ran out of coffee at breakfast so I was a little disappointed I couldn't have a cappuccino.

Beautiful hotel and massive room, super large comfortable bed. The breakfast was brilliant, but we didn't book it at the time of booking as it said it was £17.95 per person which was a bit much for us, but I asked at the desk if they had a breakfast offer and they said yes, £12.00 which was perfect. I would've booked that when booking if I had seen it at that price, maybe I missread it somewhere.
It wasn't that we didn't like it, but the bathroom was a little dated compared to the beautiful settings and other parts of the hotel. The shower knob fell off but easily went back on and didn't affect use.

Lovely little stay, been this hotel before and will 100% be coming back. The hotel it self is really nice, rooms are spacious, bathrooms are great and include a bath/shower. We love the grounds of which the hotel is on, great to have a drink outside and admire the green. We ate here last time and food is ok a little on the pricey side though for what your getting. Great lounge space down stairs and staff are very friendly and accommodating.
The only fault I could point out was the WIFI, didn’t really work for us, not sure if that’s because we were on the very edge of the hotel but was quite frustrating

Staff were veey helpful and polite. The room we ended up in was very clean and comfortable, a massive bed, best hotel pillows weve ever slept on and two comfy chairs.Would have been absolutely perfect if it had overlooked the stunning grounds.
We had accepted a room upgrade sent via email for an extra £14. We felt the room was really old fashioned and very dark, we was just looking out onto very close, outer walls and we didnt feel at all comfortable in the room. Also there was a tray of half eaten food and beer glasses right outside the room when we arrived, we told reception about it and was told it would be moved. We went to sit in the grounds for about 20mins then decided to go to reception and asked to moved to a basic room with more light, the staff were happy to agree to that and said we wouldnt be charged the upgrade fee, which was great. When I went back to the old room to collect our things the dirty food tray was still outside the door, which wasnt very good.

the room was spacious and clean - the gym ( rocos ) isn’t far away with pool . man on reception was very attentive
had to wait 15 mins for bar to open at 11am for a complimentary drink only to be charged as we weren’t members and it didn’t say we had to be on the voucher . the man on bar said we had interrupted his breakfast ! so we ended up paying £10 for 2 drinks we thought were complimentary. also weren’t told about the gym ( good job I had read it before we went )

Lovely building and decor, the room was just the right size with an en-suit that was one of the best ones I have found in a hotel. The bed was massive and very comfortable, pillows a little hard but that’s just a personal taste. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of seating and a massive choice of foods. The staff were all excellent professional and very friendly. Plenty of parking spaces for hotel guests. Hotel is about a 8 - 10 minute car drive to York centre which was perfect and a bus route is right outside the hotel.
Floor boards a little creaky but not annoying, it added to the charm of the place.

The staff were very welcoming, as it was my friend's birthday treat - a weekend in York, the gentleman on reception gave us a free drink at the bar and he was extremely helpful around getting into York, he also stored our cases until we returned to check in.
There was a problem with the room, I booked a classic twin and was given a double bed room, although they changed it the room we were given was a double with a single bed but the single bed was a smaller one as though it was for a child. I booked a twin as we both have had hip replacements. Was a shame it wasn't the room I booked. The breakfast room was very busy, we had to keep requesting bowls for the fruit, pastries ran out, had to ask for plates, there were no teaspoons for the tea and coffee - just small things nothing major, just a management issue I think and not enough staff on in the breakfast room.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, there seemed to be a high standard of cleanliness everywhere and the beds were very comfortable. Good variety of food on offer for breakfast. Great location that was easily accessed - just on the periphery of the city. Grounds looked lovely but unfortunately it was raining too hard to explore them.
Hospitality tray left a little to be desired - enough milk for one hot drink each only; no sanitary bags in the bathroom and very cheap toilet paper in situ. Only small things but they do let the brand name down.
