Lovely old pub where we overnighted en route to Scotland. Beautiful setting not too far from A1. Really friendly and helpful staff - Katie, Greg and others. Superbly appointed room with all facilities including a small fridge. Excellent dinner served outside on a warm evening. Full Yorkshire breakfast to send us on our way. If we had more time, it would be ideal for exploring York.

The location was so quiet and peaceful, had a really good nights sleep. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of space within the room. The mini fridge and drink making facilities were an added bonus. The breakfast options were great, especially to be able to have continental and cooked. Everything looked well presented, tasty and really impressive. The member of staff that greeted us upon arrival and showed us to our room was very helpful and friendly, as was the other member of staff manning breakfast solo!

The continental breakfast food that was out could have done with some coverings, as due to the rural location there was the odd bug flying around.

Basically a fab stay, lovely room with a beautiful bath, however a little warm as the heating was uncontrollable at the radiator, really lovely bed.

2 points, 1st the TV in the room was mounted on the side wall so if you watched upright in bed you end up with a stiff neck. 2nd the food was delicious on our 1st night, couldn't be faulted and service brilliant, on our 2nd night it was late, cold and could not be eaten, however the manager on duty was fabulous and tried her utmost to replace the meal with an alternative, she didn't charge for the original dish and the replacement was free too. These Things sometimes happen however they way in which it was dealt with was perfect. would definitely return. thanks TT.

We found the tickled trout looking for accommodation to allow us to visit some gardens and stately homes nearby. What a lovely surprise it was. The rooms are nicely decorated and ours had a spacious bathroom with bath and shower and a large comfortable bed (Ure). Coffee and tea making facilities with complementary port to finish off the evening. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant which is known for its fish dishes, which is a good reason to return and try some more dishes. Breakfast is also very good.

Just some minor comments that did not really affect us massively. This room is at the back and did get a fair bit of wood smoke from the pizza oven. Next time we would probably book a room at the front. The TV is in the corner next to the bed head. We did not use it but wondered how to watch it from the bed.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, we felt comfortable in the environment and felt looked after. The food was delicious, our breakfast was the best we have had in all our travels. I loved meeting Nelly the cocker spaniel pup that was there to greet us at breakfast time.

Perhaps a fan in the bedroom as it was a warm night. The mattress in our room was a bit squishy round the edges so it felt like you might slide off ( this was not really bad).

The location was good and easy to find. The room was very nicely decorated and the beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. Everything was immaculately clean. The complimentary port was a nice touch as was the Alexa and the tea making things with some chocolate bars too. The shower was good with plenty of hot water. The food in the evening was very good and the breakfast was nice as well. The pub itself was also very nicely decorated and had a nice atmosphere.

The temperature in the room was erratic. When we arrived the room was cold and remained so until about midnight. Cold to the extent that we had to keep a coat/dressing gown on and have a hot shower to warm up. But then in the night it became so hot it was uncomfortable and I had to get up and see how to turn the radiator off, it was stifling and consequently it was hard to sleep. It was a shame as this was the only negative thing I could say about the whole stay. Tiny things I would suggest are a shelf in the shower to put things on, and bin or container to put the used tea bags and wrappers in near to the kettle. But these are very minor things.

The breakfast was beautifully laid out with an excellent choice of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and cheese in addition to cooked options. The en-suite was beautiful with plenty of space and a good shower. All staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant; they couldn't do enough for you. A very quiet location and the bed was extremely comfortable. We had a meal from the Sunday menu which was very varied and served in the restaurant.

It would have been nice to have had 2 chairs in the bedroom rather than just one. The village is lovely but very small and only consisting of houses.

The evening meal was excellent and my gluten free request was accommodated and the food was delicious. The food choices were very varied and would appeal to all tastes and appetites. The staff were very friendly. The room was great and the bathroom was huge with a fantastic free standing bath. The breakfast offering was lovely and varied with one exception, they had run out of gluten free bread. A quirky property with friendly and helpful hosts, lots of outside space for drinking/dining in a nice quiet village. Great dark skies location.

Excellent food, warm welcome and great staff .

Our bedroom had a large green light in it for the fire exit . It was completely over the top for it's purpose and lit up the whole room once the lights were off. I'm not sure this is is in every room. Our one was with a balcony and was very nice but this green light made it very hard to sleep . A shame as otherwise a brilliant place .

All the staff are friendly, headed by Ian & Katie (Management) & especially Gregg, whether its cleaning/replenishing the rooms or serving breakfasts he is always smiling & helpful like rest of the staff in the bar area! Location is tranquil which I loved too! Food is home cooked, steak burger & Pizzas highly recommended.

Nothing really apart from a few bulbs that needed replacing on the balcony area & the odd repair but I am sure if these were reported before I arrived would have been anyway.
