The Wheatland's Lodge is an old style B+B Hotel with lovely rooms and a restaurant and Bar. I had an excellent Full English breakfast; which is a good reason to stay at a traditional b+b hotel. Its becoming less common to have breakfast included now. Many guests houses either charge extra or do not bother at all. The Loction being a few minutes walk from the old city was perfect and useful tourism advise was given
Free parking was essential but tricky for anyone with a large car

Staff, especially Fiona were very welcoming when we arrived - complimentary coffee was a treat. It is obvious that all the staff have been trained to be very polite and helpful.
We couldn’t find anything to dislike

From the get go we were pleased with the hotel. Reception staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The Hotel is made up from 4 or 5 magnificent Victorian houses with high ceilings, feature fireplaces and lovely carved stair cases and skirting. They are behind a large lawned front garden and the buildings are floodlit at night. It's warm and inviting and clearly Laurel & Hardy are much admired as there are many photographic references to them in the common areas. The room was spacious, well equipped and warm. Bathroom was spacious too. Breakfast was exceptional. Cooked to perfection, a good sized helping and lots of choice. Coffee was tasty and not at all sharp. extra toast was never a problem and a nice touch were the hot French pastries coming out of the kitchen towards the end of the sitting. The Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Station and is even closer to one of the Town Gates. I would wholeheartedly recommend this Hotel.
Nothing.

Caitlyn on reception was welcoming friendly and really pleasant. Also Lucy who was a server in the restaurant was amazing. My son has autism and is very picky with his food she was patient and kind and the 2nd day she remembered what he had ordered the day before and he was really happy that she knew exactly what he wanted. Lovely staff overall.
There wasn't really anything I didn't like. Although in reviews it was stated as a lovely family hotel.. it was full of older people. I didn't see any other children or younger people on our visit at the hotel and there was nothing there for their entertainment. Altho our stay wasn't affected and we had a lovely time.

The staff and management are really nice and do genuinely look after all the residents the hotel is quirky and a bit dated but it feels very homely, in the evening the bar area is a bit like a social club, everyone seems to get on well and the atmosphere is very relaxed The breakfast is excellent! all freshly cooked and served promptly and the staff are excellent
there are a lot stairs and no lift service, so could be a bit awkward for the less abled the rooms are a bit dated but clean and adequate

This was a quirky, friendly hotel with lots of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. The staff were all helpful and knowledgeable about York. We chose to stay in for our evening meal which was four courses, all good, and very reasonable. The lounges were comfortable and it was a nice touch to be asked if we wanted a complimentary hot drink on our arrival. You can tell that this hotel is privately owned and that the owners are proud of this and happy to be in the business! We would go back.
Our room looked a bit 'tired' but was very comfortable.

Everything. The room was immaculate. I had a two bed room to myself due to my own last minute booking of the last room, and it was top quality. The room was pristine and i had a nice front wide window looking out into the street with lots of sunlight. Staff were extra friendly and supportive! I was a little apprehensive beforehand due to usually only choosing Premier inns but this was so worth it. The hotel had much more personality and warmth to it compared to a bog standard premier inn. Close enough to town (10/15 min walk into the main city and The Shambles). Breakfast was great, had the full English twice - just wish they offered more alternatives for breakfast meals because they cook very well.
Minor concerns but i was on the first floor and on my first night, I could hear the floorboards creaking above me every time someone walked around. It wasn't too loud but disruptive when trying to sleep. Otherwise didn't notice it any other night. Breakfast was great! However on my last day I stood waiting to be seated for an akwardly long time until i was told that i could've gone to find myself a table despite the sign asking to wait to be seated.

the welcome was nice and staff very friendly. The breakfast was very good but very surprised that black pudding wasn't on the menu, as we were staying in yorkshire ??? Our room no 26 was lovely. beds comfy except the sheets were always slipping. The shower room was compacted but did the job, the only thing which wasn't good was the brown grim under the rim of the plug.
The TV was so small and hard to read anything without getting up close, so annoying The evening meal was far too early at 6pm. it should be between 6.30pm til 8pm. I've worked in the hotel busy for many year's in this country and overseas. I was very surprised that there wasn't a light room service menu.

Recently stayed here with a friend and I honestly think this is good value for money! The staff were friendly as nothing was too out of their way to help when we needed it and the room was well kept when we arrived and during the course of our stay. The B&B had a lovely garden where you can sit out on the front with a nice drink in hand. The breakfast was lovely too! Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to stay either short or long term.
Your only issue you would encounter is the lack of a lift although this wasn’t a problem for us.

I contacted the hotel a week before we were due to go to ask for a ground floor room as my husband had hurt his foot and was unable to do stairs and they did accommodate us in a family suite across a small external courtyard to the rear. The inclusive breakfast is very good and sets you up for the day. It's within walking distance of the city centre and on a bus route which runs every 15 minutes into the centre.
Very limited parking outside. We drove around for about 90 minutes until we were able to find a space. Lack of a lift makes it harder for people with limited mobility.
