Clean and organized hostel, with nice activities daily.

Pleasant and helpful workers, but with exception of staff Kira. We were whispering in the hall and she came over in an extremely rude manner to complain to us as if we were shouting. When I asked her why she was acting so rude for no reason at all, she said that I was opposing her, that I was wrong, and told me to pack my things and leave. How does an employee tell a guest to pack his things and leave in the middle of the night for nothing? that is inadmissible!!

This was one of my best hostel experiences ever. The vibe is awesome. Room was spacious and beds comfy. Lot's of common areas to hangout. A big kitchen where we can cook our own food, which was a blessing in San Diego where eating out is not cheap. Free condiments to cook were added plus. Fridge was available for food storage. Breakfast was delicious and generous (Milk, corn flakes etc., and oranges). Tea/coffee available round the clock. Staff were certainly the best part of this hostel. Their friendly service made it a truly memorable stay.

There is always scope for improvement. The shower rooms were very narrow (about 2.5 feet wide) and the water from shower spout only reached upto waist; had to do some acrobatics to wash legs, haha..

Great location and a very well managed, comfortable hostel. I was able to check in slightly earlier, and they received mail for me as advertised on their web page. The "free" breakfast was simple but I appreciate it nonetheless. The room was surprisingly quiet, and I could sleep well.

The showers were OK, but a basket or something to put your clothes in would definitely be helpful (and ideally also a shower gel for those who do not bring their own). I stayed two nights, and the first night the heating was way too strong (you cannot regulate it). I guess it was some sort of a random error – the second night was OK.

It was perfect since it was in the gaslamp district and walking distance from everywhere I wanted to be to meet up with friends and all. The staff were also very understanding, chill, and fun to talk to when the opportunity came about.

One of the roommates in my room was snoring very heavily the second night and none of us could do anything about it. One roommate did an early checkout due to the noise and a couple of us went to try to rest in the lounge. Also, the room smelled pretty terrible at times and staff came with a spray to help clean the smell out, but it came back even worse the second night.

Well walked right in and had some characters. Was blown away by how accurate the photos were. Had a room for everything from the area for chatting to doing work in the kitchen for cooking and eating. Plus the staff was super friendly and helpful. Was even given a free goodie bag. The toilet and shower rooms were nice. Got to chat up with others who were staying there. Even had activities each day and joined in on Saturday social night. The room had two bunk beds with some having little light and charger, followed by a privacy curtain. It was perfect if you needed a place to sleep on the budget. I'd recommend giving this one a try for the 1st time and I hope to return. Especially for someone who was working outside San Diego Comic Con.

Not that I can think of.

I had a great time! The Gaslamp is very pretty, colorful, and well-maintained. It has showers, a laundry room, and a full kitchen with free breakfast and coffee. Gatherings are held every night in the shared lounge. I was a solo traveler, and so were most others when I stayed, and we all got along awesome!

My only complaint is that it was difficult to find a place to smoke until the restaurants closed. They don't have a yard, and the front door is squeezed between two restaurants the hostel sits on top of. The neighborhood stayed loud until 3 a.m., which could bug someone, but I was up almost that late anyway and fell asleep quickly.

Super clean Friendly staff and fellow travelers Excellent location, walkable to harbor and close to public transit Great food options and grocery shopping options nearby Close to San Diego Zoo by bus Basic breakfast included in price Very systematic and organized processes for check in, check out, breakfast etc. Great lounge area as well

Nothing to dislike. One small consideration maybe that bathrooms/showers/toilets aren't located within dorms. I didn't find it to be an issue as they were available when I needed them.

This was the nicest hostel I've ever stayed at in North America. Everything was spotless. The design of the hostel was great. I loved how the dining area was in a loft above the kitchen and that there were plugins even in the dining area. There was a filtered water-bottle-filling station. Staff were very accommodating about me needing to change dates.

Gaslamp Quarter is a bit of a grungy neighbourhood but that's not the fault of the hostel itself, and it was close to the conference I was attending.

As a solo woman traveller, i felt very safe and welcome at the Hostel. The beds were comfortable, the property was quiet (which was surprising considering it's in a bustling neighbourhood, close to everything), everything was clean including bathrooms, the staff was informative and helpful, they had amenities and laundry (!), the uniqueness of the building itself made the stay above and beyond staying at any other hostel.

Honestly there wasn't anything I didn't like.

The morning concierge was very kind and very personable. The bed was very comfortable. I love that there was a locker for my things and I felt very comfortable in the atmosphere. The bathrooms and showers were cleaned often and well decorated. There are many historic and fanciful features to the decor and architecture.

The carpet all needs to be removed as it is rancid, much too old, and made me a bit sick I had to wear a mask in the building which also hurts my face. Everything was perfect except for the carpet.
