Gaslamp Plaza Suites is right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, so you're literally steps away from all the bars, restaurants, and nightlife. Being in the middle of the city does come with a bit of the usual city stuff—some noise, a little grunge—but the location is super convenient if you're looking to explore downtown. The hotel felt really safe, which I appreciated. There’s valet parking right out front, and the lobby doors lock at night—you use your room key to get in and to access the elevator, which was a nice security touch. The front desk staff was great—super friendly and helpful. I mentioned my room felt a little small, and they didn’t hesitate to upgrade me to a Junior Suite. It was awesome! Really spacious, with a comfy queen bed, a full living room, and even a kitchenette. The living room had a sofa that pulled out into a bed, which would be perfect for kids or extra guests. The kitchenette had a microwave, fridge, sink, and everything you’d need—plates, glasses, utensils, wine opener, sponge, dish soap, even a drying mat. Great setup if you're traveling with family or just want to save your leftovers. The bathroom had a big oval tub and those wall dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus hand soap and lotion by the sink. There was also a small dining table, chairs, and a desk, which made the room feel super livable. They also held our bags after checkout so we could wander around a bit longer without dragging our stuff around. Really appreciated that. Overall, the hotel was clean, had a unique vintage feel that made it stand out, and still offered all the modern essentials like a hair dryer and ironing board. You could stay somewhere more basic, but this place actually feels like a vacation. Highly recommend if you want something comfortable, memorable, and close to everything. TIP: Use the Hop On Hop Off Trolley to explore many of the local attractions.
There’s no on-site restaurant, and valet parking is on the pricier side—pretty typical for downtown hotels. It would’ve been nice if they offered a continental breakfast, though.

Did not have breakfast. There was a restaurant in the building in the ground floor but it was not clear how to access it. It's was unnecessary though given the amount of restaurants adjacent to the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful: front desk, valet, and housekeeping. They were super fast with all requests. The suite was large, classic, well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The windows and view were wonderful. The bathroom was roomy, with tiles and marble, and instant hot water. The a/c was quick to cool. No noise could be heard from other rooms.
It is near a busy street in the Gaslamp Quarter and therefore prone to street noise. This was understood prior to arrival and so it was not a bother.

I checked into the Gaslamp Plaza Suite hotel this afternoon, and the front desk gave me a free room upgrade—what a pleasant surprise! The room has a dedicated bathroom with separate wet and dry areas, a microwave, a small coffee maker, a sofa, a TV, a desk, and two large windows. Moreover, the tissues and towels are folded into beautiful shapes. There's free coffee on the top floor of the hotel, and they even gave me a $6 bus card, which allows unlimited rides on any bus until 11 p.m. The front desk staff was especially thoughtful and told me about the tourist routes. It's a great hotel! I'll stay here again next time I come.
It is better to provide an electric kettle and slipper if necessary.

The staff were fantastic. Merry on the reception desk definitely lives up to her name, and was extremely helpful both with information about the local area and transportation, and for kindly upgrading my room to a beautiful corner suite. The room was great, clean and comfy and the location is walking distance to restaurants, ferries, bars and shops. The rooftop view from the hotel is worth checking out on the top floor.
The shower pressure was pretty bad, and there weren't many outlets near the bed for chargers. The hotel is old and rooms show their age.

Breakfast not include but there is coffee at the roof top. Location is great, directly on the fifth avenue, not too far from the trolley lines. You can still feel the 1920 vibes in the hotel looking at the mail box and the elevator. same feeling also in the corridor but the rooms are big, recent and comfy. Microwave, sink and mini fridge.
It can get a bit noisy at night with the homeless yelling for no reason. It would have been great to have a gym or included breakfast.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel rooms very clean, roomy and comfortable. Don’t let the outside of the Hotel fool you because it’s an older hotel. As soon as you get in room I was very surprised on how clean and roomy the room was. I will stay here again!!!
I only have a comment on the speak easy lounge at the basement was nice. Butt I didn’t like the fact we could not enter through the hotel. We had to walk outside to enter the lounge and that security working the Double doors at the lounge was not pleasant!

the staff were all really friendly and helpful.... the room was large, comfortable, stylish, and CLEAN we love old architecture so this was wonderful
a card with the channels for the TVs? there was a lot of noise outside way into the very late night early morning. People yelling - but what can you do about that? I hated that I had to go to priceline to book to get a better deal but I had to do that in order for us to stay there.

We arrived at 11:00 AM and check is at 4:00PM. Not only did they greet us warmly, they checked our luggage for us. Alma at the front desk called us when our rooms were ready 3:30 and much to our delight we were upgraded to a 9th floor junior suite with a beautiful view of the water and the city. We loved the rooftop where we could go in the mornings for fresh coffee and in the evenings before going out. The location was perfect for walking everywhere. We walked to Petco Park for the Billy Joel concert and it was really convenient and we felt totally safe walking home at night.
Friday and Saturday night the partying on 5th avenue was quite loud until around 3:00 AM . It didn't bother us because we were tired from walking all day and pretty much ignored it. Ear plugs might be a good thing to bring with you if noise bothers you, though.

I like the view from my room and the rooftop patio which is relaxing. The location is excellent. It is served by a trolly station just a few minutes walk away. The common area on the top floor provides coffee, tea, and hot water, which is important for a solo traveler like me. Convenient stores, supermarkets, and a variety of restaurants are within reachable distance.
I expected the room cleaning would be finished by noon. But during my stay, there were at least two days that room cleaning was finished late after 3 pm. That is the only thing I think they can improve.
