October 2022

At check-in, I was greeted by a gentleman who was reading a book in his spare time - always a sign that I'm in a good place. I asked if I could get a meal at the restaurant, and he called over the hostess who told me to come down in 20 minutes and she'd take care of me - which she did. The food was spectacular, and the bartender treated me like family. It was the best introduction to a hotel I've had in years. I had to write a grant proposal on deadline so I spent nearly all of my first day in my room. It was terrific; while the Continental breakfast ran out before I got there because I didn't understand it was set on that dresser in the hall, the coffee kept me writing and I finished on schedule. (The next morning I got up earlier and was rewarded). I really enjoyed everything about the hotel and will definitely be back.

Nothing.

Location was great. In the heart of where all the attractions are. Hilly city but walkable and lots of restaurants nearby.very clean hotel.

The free continental breakfast was on floors 3 and 6 and extremely limited and was completely gone on the first morning that the second morning of our stay i had to get up quite early just to get something. Bathrooms are tiny but very clean. Sit on the toilet and had the sink in my face literally. Made it super tight to even stand to pull up pants.I’m 5 ft 9” If opening the windows for fresh air at night you’ll hear lots of noises from either drunk or crazy people swearing and screaming things at all times of the night below. Sleeping was rough although bed very comfortable. It is a neat old hotel and don’t regret staying there at all.

Comfortable bed and clean room, loved the vibe which was like a historic boarding house. Location was good and great food across the street and all around. Tiny bathroom in our room, but just big enough! We had everything we needed and would book again.

Breakfast was a little like the Hunger Games. When we arrived (at 12am after a long flight) we were told to be sure to get breakfast at 7am or it runs out…not a great way to start a vacation! No sleeping in if we wanted breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast included good coffee but small, grocery-store pastries and nothing else, not a banana in sight. I’d suggest either beefing up and being more generous with breakfast or stop advertising that it’s included and let guests relax and not battle over the slim pickings at 7am!

We spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in San Francisco. The location is fantastic - close to Union Square with restaurants and shopping, close to the Bart and cable cars, and it has a charming feel to it (historic building, cozy spaces). Our king room was smaller than the one pictured but did give us enough space to move around. I wish the lighting had been a bit brighter; especially in the bathroom with a high ceiling and only a ceiling light, it was hard for me to do my makeup (ok, I am in my 50s lol) Convenient continental breakfast is offered on each floor and during our stay they also offered a complimentary glass of wine in the lobby from 5-6 pm. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the on-site restaurant had lovely desserts (we didn't eat dinner but it was always busy and smelled delicious). Wifi is a bit slow, but in an older building I think that is to be expected. I would definitely stay here again.

Lighting in bathroom was dim - a light directly over the mirror would have been appreciated. Also, the shelf over the sink made it awkward to use the sink, it was so close.

The room was fairly basic but comfortable. Good bed and pillows. Once you get over the initial location (lots of homeless around this area and in the alleyway next to the hotel), its actually very convenient. Although I wouldn't be looking to walk around the hotel too late. But in the day it seemed OK and great for Chinatown and Union Square.

The room did get very hot in the night even with the fan on. With the windows closed it was still noisy. If it wasn't loud cars racing down the street, we would hear the homeless people in the alleyway next to the room either shouting, talking or listening to music at early times (c.5am) most days. There was also a noisy lorry / bin truck around c.6am every morning in the car park behind the hotel. Also found the $100 a night security deposit a bit steep, especially if you are staying a number of nights. It's a lot to potentially have on hold if you didnt expect it and then have to wait for it to be returned a number of days after your stay.

This hotel has a fantastic location. The room was comfortable and cozy. our room had a mini fridge. I have stayed at the Andrews off and on since 1982. I always enjoy my stay. They offer a simple continental breakfast each morning, coffee is available all day and a glass of wine in the evening.

There is nothing that I did not like but are things that could be an issue for others. The room size and the bathrooms are small. the shower is tiny but has great flow and plenty of hot water. The tv is also small. The rooms are not modern and have not been recently updated. They are clean and comfortable.

Communication with the staff was good and timely. They helped us to find an oversized parking and gave us other good tips. Liked the old fashion style of the place. The elevator is super cool! Shower had strong water pressure. We appreciated the cosmetics and hair dryer in the bathroom. Good selection of pastries for breakfast but that was it.

On Monday, there was lot of noise from water pipes and other guests from 6 am, but with earplugs it was fine. The room we got #305 was pretty dark with 2 windows not getting much light.

Location is good, staff helpful. Did not try the italian restaurant but looked good. Breakfast was simple and convenient (coffee, pastries, juice, tea).

Wifi was bad at times. It was good to make Teams call, however had difficulties to have fast connection. I'm very surprised after testing several hotels in East and West Coast, how wifi is sometimes bad in US hotels. Again, no noise isolation from outside, nor from corridor (old hotel). Good thing I was on floor 7.

A comfortable clean, period hotel in a great location 5/10 minutes walk from everything you need, supermarket, food hall, bus, trains, airport Bart.. Great accomodating staff with the bonus of good coffee always available to help yourself at reception.

O.k id stay here again anyday but here are some observations. (1) The wasteful use of small plastic milk containers in a world we are trying to preserve by minimising waste.(2) The walls aren’t soundproof and you may hear noisy guests.(3) It’s good to get something in your tummy in the mornings but you better like pastry(4) I didn’t take advantage of the free wine at 5 p.m. I did try to on the first night but was totally ignored for the 10 minutes I stood there. I appreciate they were busy but a polite acknowledgement that they would get to me soon would have been appreciated. I never went back. However I fully recommend this hotel,it’s not perfect, just great.

Continental breakfast on each floor is self-service pastries/cakes, juice and coffee - perfectly adequate and tasty. Room comfy, shower decent. Room service from restaurant really quick and food good. Staff nice and helpful - allowed me to leave luggage after checkout. Handy location for downtown and cable cars.

Location felt a bit sketchy for walking at night (being a female traveller alone). However, this might be paranoia on my part. Anyway, ubers abound and no problems in the day.
