Location is right across the road from the beach and a block from State Street. We had a beach view with the sunrise every morning. This is one of the least expensive options in the area. We LOVED its quirkiness as well. Super fun. Very pet friendly. Loved the hot tub and the funky eccentric decor inside and out. Enjoyed that there was a happy hour with cheese and crackers and wine. Not fancy in the least, but nice.

If you want "American hotel" conditions, this is not the place for you. Think boutique stay in Europe, not the states, and you're good to go. The spa tub in the room didn't make bubbles. The tarp over the deck was broken, and even with the promise of repairing it from the front desk, no one came, so we got up on chairs and wired it back on ourselves. It was literally a red tarp with a tear in the middle. There's rust on metal and chips in the paint. But, we didn't mind because the place is so unique and fun. I would've loved some fruit and yogurt with breakfast. The continental breakfast has no finesse to it at all. Pool wasn't heated. Front desk doesn't do much for you, but they're cordial. Still, we look forward to staying here again! It's a matter of your expectations.

Awesome little place across from the beach. The room and main hotel was nicely decorated. We had a little area right outside our room which had a bench, a table and a couple chairs which was perfect for having wine while enjoying the evening air. Although our room faced the side street, and not far from the main street, there really wasn’t any traffic noise. A lot of foot traffic as people went walking down the sidewalk but it added to the ambience. One nice addition, the owner recently air conditioning to the room which made it so much more comfortable since it was a humid night. The staff was very friendly and polite. The night that we arrived was very busy and there was only one girl doing the work so it to a moment to check-in but she did a great job and didn’t stress out.

Although we felt secure, the lock on the door required a key instead of a code or card plus there wasn’t a deadbolt. Another problem, that we’ve had a many other hotels, is the ventilation of the bathroom. The bathroom ceiling had a small amount of mildew due to the lack of ventilation although we open the bathroom window to vent but it did give a lack to privacy.

Location, view, ambiance & staff. Very cozy place, my second time returning to Ala Mar Inn. Nice coffee always available and sweet treat breakfast included. Also ability to use pool at sister property Villa Rosa, that comes handy on a hot day!

Outside walls could use a little pain and wall rocks fallen off on the patio but they were just in the middle of roof renovations so I bet they’ll tune up before season! Also my room was missing light bulbs and main ceiling lights weren’t working, I’m sure they can fix it up. I forgot to mention to receptionist.

The location, the view, the place. There is a terrace at the motel, overlooking the sea. You can share all the facilities of the managing hotel, there is a pool in the courtyard and also a hot tub. Good breakfast, durable coffee, in the evening a happy hour with wine and cheese. In another house are washer and dryer for only 2$ to use (you have to have quarters with you though!), detergent is free. Our room had a third bed in addition to the two queen beds we booked, which was perfect for us. The furnishings were not catalog standard but very tasteful. We felt very comfortable.

In the motel building, as usual, the walls are quite thin.

What we both loved about this place was the location, cleanness, & the staff. We will definitely share our experiences with our friends and family.

My wife and I had a great time at the motel, the only hiccup was that the bed was very squeaky and affected out sleep, other than that, we will definitely be returning hear and we will let all of our friends and family know about this place. J & M

The view was amazing. We rented the Penthouse Suite and we loved it. It has an old hacienda feel. The jetted tub was wonderful! The many windows allows the ocean breeze to blow through the room. The walk to the pier took about 2 minutes. We went out to get a beer then we walked along the beach. The beach was quiet and clean. You could hear music coming from the pier. It was very nice. The bed was comfy, the view was beautiful. I would stay here again :)

The only room for improvement would be: 1. Get some screens for the windows. 2 of the windows didn't have screens and the seagulls were all over. 2. Make sure housekeeping mops the floor thoroughly. The floor had some sticky spots. That was easily resolved by putting the towels down on the floor.

We ended up being put in a room at Villa Rosa-right next door (sister hotel?). Beautiful room, beautiful hotel with gorgeous antiques in the lobby and throughout the building. Melodie at the front desk was awesome. Both hotels are across the street from the beach and a quick walk to State Street.

We actually stayed upstairs at the Tide Pool Inn across the street. The location was excellent and we had some great meals at restaurants within walking distance. Room was reasonably quiet.

Breakfast was OK, but I would have preferred unflavored creamer with my coffee, and a coffee pot in our room.

Directly a hop skip and a jump from Santa Bárbara coastline. Great value, fantastic times, and great restaurants on Cabrillo. Felt like I was in Big Bear with a small beach. People were lovely and great customer service.

Everything went well. No complaints. Great hospitality
