first off if you want a 5 star hotel this is not that. this location is rough 10,000ft and the winters are very harsh conditions so you would understand if the gold has worn. if you get my point. it is a very solid building very kind and helpful staff facilities are very hard to keep pristine. the pool is wonderful and the hot tubs you can’t adjust, but for the love of God just sit there relax and watch humming birds play. one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.

The location of the property is perfect, as far as beautiful scenic views. the views were incredible, and there’s a mountain stream running directly behind the lodge. The staff was incredibly friendly, and they put forth the extra effort to make sure my stay was a happy one.

it’s very clean, and well taken care of, but it is older, and it looks older. it did not effect my perception of the place. The only real recourse that I can offer, would be to paint the outside.

Monarch Mountain lodge was built in the 1970s and hasn't had much renovation since then (so it appears). This is what makes the stay so fun! Traveling downstairs to the pool or game room is like taking a trip back in time. The posters on the walls and other signage are super old and I think that's awesome. The staff makes the place these days. Though it's a skeleton crew (e.g., one bartender as the only restaurant front-of-house employee, one front desk worker or a radio to call someone), they work incredibly hard and are all very friendly. I would highly recommend visiting Monarch while it's still around!!! The hotel was very quiet as not many rooms were occupied. Summer is the off season, and we are so glad we visited when we did.

I really can't complain about much. The Wi-Fi signal was weak, but we knew this upon check-in. I had no problem driving down to Salida for work calls. The electricity didn't work on one half of our room, but it wasn't a big deal. The hotel is old and the charm is worth the hassle.

Went for a hike across the street. Rained hard on us on the way down from Boss Reservoir. Cleaned up then were thrilled there was a restaurant onsite because did not want to leave to find food in the rain. New waitress was slammed but she rocked it and was super sweet. Food was perfect and well priced. We had our big yellow lab with us and had to be switched to a different "family" room than the one originally booked and was more expensive but we werent asked to pay more.

I specifically booked this hotel bc it allowed dogs. Upon arrival the front desk said there was a fee for pets. This was not mentioned at the time of reserving - nor was it mentioned when I called to double check the reservation before arrival and spoke with the front desk. Told him we had a dog but the deluxe room we booked didn't allow them. That should've been caught prior to arrival. Thank goodness there was a family room available for us.

The property is on a beautiful location. The trees and the sweet little pond were outstanding. We watched hummingbirds right outside our hotel window. The staff were so friendly. The value was outstanding!!!

I wish we could have stayed longer. We just needed a room for the night. If I ever get a chance, I will stay again. I hear there are some good hot springs about 30 mins away.

Gorgeous scenery, loved the restaurant inside, staff was very kind and friendly—made you feel very welcomed. Thought it was very fun and unique that there was a game room, and heated pool plus a couple hot tubs.

I wish there were some hiking trails, I thought the bridges by the back of property lead to a hiking trail, but it ended up leading to the road. Also, maybe having a few other games in the game room. also my room 205 started to have water drip from the ceiling in the bathroom. Also wish the Wi-Fi was more consistent/stronger

I liked a room was available. My room was spacious. It was comfortable. It had areas that wasn't very clean. The curtains had a few issues and zero coffee in room.

No coffee. The curtains didn't have enough hooks so the curtains were crooked. Slightly dirty. No one checked behind nightstand. Dirty kleenex behind it. I went to get coffee in restaurant. Waited a bit for a cup to go No one to help. I feel for price of room coffee should be complimentary.

Everything overall was better than I expected since there were some bad reviews. The staff was wonderful. Carl went out of his way to fix me a breakfast that was not on the menu, and they were very fast, Rachael was wonderful. She tried to help out with anything that we needed. Brittney in the bar was also helpful and a good bartender. Coming back from skiing early I had a private pool, which was warmer than most hotel pools, and a private hot tub. The three hot tubs were new. This was mid-week, and the hotel was not very full. The fact that had a shuttle allowed me to return sooner in the car while my husband took the shuttle back.

I would have rated everything excellent except for the fact that on the last morning there was no hot water in the hotel. My husband wasn't happy. As he said, up until now everything was great. I sure hope that they got it fixed quickly as the hotel was completely booked for the upcoming weekend.

The view was breathtaking with the mountains and beautiful bridge with the water rushing by. Kept my windows opened all night to hear it. Also, they have so many hummingbirds! Dan at the desk was so welcoming and helpful! Room was exceptionally clean, WiFi worked great. Didn’t get a chance to eat at the restaurant.

Breathtaking location !! This is an older building but if you can get past that and just take in the beauty you will have an awesome stay. There were a few things out of order like some games in the game room , vending machines etc. But overall we had a wonderful stay and would stay again for sure

Could have been more menu options for breakfast and dinner and most staff was very friendly except the lady taking the food orders was not so nice but way more positive to say about this lodge than negative
