The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I had bought wine after a wine tasting and did not have a wine glass in the room. A staff member in the restaurant let me borrow one from the kitchen.
The cost of meals was prohibitive. My sister and I had the soup and salad bar on our first night there, and the food was delicious and the cost reasonable. We also got a box lunch one day when we were trail walking. That, too, was good and economical. However, breakfast and dinner was rather costly. If I stay there again, I will take breakfast and lunch foods.

The buffets were great - both Breakfast and Dinner. The location was perfect making it convenient to enjoy the park as well as historic Madison, Indiana. Rooms were clean, and beds were comfortable. Reading material available in the lobby. Great seating throughout the Inn so we never felt "stuck" in our room.
There's no elevator to the 2nd floor, but it's only 2 floors, so the stairs were fine.

This place was so cool. It's a state park, so a little dated but clean. Loved the layout. The restaurant was good. Pool was fun. Fireplace at night. Loved it.
The only complaint I would have is that the restaurant menu in the room has wonderful pictures of French toast with fruit but only offered a buffet with no pancakes or French toast or ham. So if we weren't already planning to return, I must to try that breakfast.

Having a full service restaurant in the Inn was very convenient. The food consisted of "real meals", not snacks or skimpy meals. The specials at dinner were really two-meal deals .... Beef Manhattan one night and Pot Pie another night .... both very good and more than enough left over for lunch the next day (rooms have refrigerators and a small microwave suitable for storage and reheating food). Wait staff service was good ... attentive without being overbearing, polite.
There are things that are out of control of the park and the Inn. Unfortunately an industrial plant is situated outside the park on the shore of the Ohio River with three prominent smoke stacks that don't really obstruct the view of the river from the Inn, but you can't ignore them because of their height and proximity to the park. But, while hiking the trails, you don't see them because of the thick foliage, so any time NOT spent in the Inn, they are out of sight and out of mind.

location and views
The lack of cleaning. Room was dusty everywhere and toilet paper roll was almost gone when we checked in, with no replacement in the room. Same with the tissue box. only two towels in a room booked for 4 adults, and when you ask for additional towels and toilet tissue you have to go down to the front desk and get it yourself. We ate dinner in the restaurant, and food was okay, but service was very slow.

The Clifty Inn did not disappoint. The facility was charming and the staff was friendly and helpful. The guest room, bathroom and balcony were very clean and the beds had crisp clean white sheets and comforters. The room was showing its age a bit but had a rustic charm. Breakfast at the Inn's restaurant was delicious and economical with great service. Unfortunately, our visit was during a 104-degree heat wave, so we didn't take advantage of the hiking opportunities, but do plan to come back to explore and take guided hikes to see the falls.
The Inn itself was wonderful, and this something Clifty Inn can't do anything about, but the location of the coal processing plant right across the street was a bit disconcerting. When standing inside our room, the view of the Ohio River valley was spectacular, but when we stepped out on the balcony and turned slightly right, the smoke stacks were right on top of us.

Clifty Inn offers such a cute and relaxing stay. We enjoyed being able to dine at the on-site restaurant. This allowed us to hike, eat, and sleep without leaving the park! Staff was kind and very helpful with any questions that we had.
I do wish the restaurant buffet was cheaper for those staying at the Inn. After paying the nightly fee to stay, a break on the buffet would have been nice- especially for breakfast.

The rooms were amazing, very clean, and the patio views were stunning. Everyone slept well and enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool.
Breakfast was horrible. I expected because the place was so nice and that there was a charge for breakfast that it would be amazing and it tasted horrible. It was supposed to be $10 a person, ended up being $14.99 and your drink cost. So for my granddaughter to eat a plate of fruit cost me $100. We all ate cold cereal out of plastic baggies because of the food being so bad. I was very disappointed and told the lady when I checked out that breakfast wasn't good but she just blew me off like it was no bid deal I paid $100 for cereal and a plate of fruit.

Right on the river, beautiful vista. The meals are definitely way overpriced (and I travel every week on my job). Most people balk at a $20 buffet.
Did not eat at the restaurant. Too expensive. Too much food in a buffet. TVs could use upgrading. Hardly anywhere else around to stay. We camped nights 2, 3.

Our meals were good - food was well prepared and the servers were friendly and accommodating. The trails were lovely, and the nature center interesting. The State Park is right outside Madison, which is well worth a visit on and of itself.
We were a little surprised at our birds-eye view of the power plant.
