This hotel can keep you entertained for many days with all if it’s beautiful rainforest called the Jungle Trail, a Hummingbird Sanctuary, endless trails, horseback riding on site, the remains of a macadamia nut factory to peruse, wildlife, excellent restaurant with a lovely large breakfast included, and much more. The staff and owners were congenial, very helpful, and made us feel very special! We felt that it was their top priority to make our stay as pleasant as possible. And Arenal Volcano is breathtaking from every angle from this place.

The only reason I would hesitate to give this 10 stars is the location is remote and it is costly to uber or taxi here. We had to pay a surcharge for our shuttle from San Jose. A car would have been advantageous for this location. The road up to the hotel is quite long and in very rough, in need of repair. If you can overlook this, then you will be so very happy that you chose this hotel!

Staff (every level) from owner to restaurant staff and others were all friendly, courteous & helpful. It was a really fun drive up to the lodge, but it was for sure an effort. About 15 minutes to reach the main road, and it's a goat track -- steep, narrow and super bumpy. Fun, but not everyone's cup of tea. Overall, the scenery of the place, the remoteness and views are the draw.

The WiFi was extremely spotty. Overall I didn't mind (as we were on vacation and didn't need reliable service), but good to be aware of. We had booked a family suite, and it was spacious and awesome, and the A/C unit was amazing! Only issues - shower (one of them) wasn't functioning properly and the toilet didn't flush great, but we made do. Overall awesome room and experience.

The facilities, the view was so beautiful wherever you look at. The staff was always so friendly, Our bedroom had an amazing view to the garden and to Arenal Volcano. They had chessboards, dominó and tic tac toe boards and you could see families all ages enjoying there, staying away from their mobiles, detox from routine! Pretty amazing.

Even when its just 12km far from Fortuna downtown, the road access is not a highway which makes it a long way of 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and weather conditions, visibility is reduced due to Fog and mist pretty much all the time cause you are climbing the hill which is near the Volcano area, so keep In mind to bring groceries, water, snacks or things you might need cause there are no stores neither restaurants open after 6pm, unless you want to make the trip to Fortuna. They do have a restaurant at the hotel and the options are several and really delicious but you never know when you might need an aspirin or a different soda or feel like having an ice cream.

The location is tremendous if you want to experience the clouds and the mountain atmosphere. And the views are spectacular. The service and food were also good. There are a couple of nice trails that we saw on the hotel map that were well worth the time. Unfortunately, the staff at the reception didn’t provide a good description so we almost missed seeing the jungle and the old museum with information about the volcano and the history of the macadamia farm. My 12 year old son really enjoyed the horse riding tour offered at the hotel.

The beds were extremely firm making it difficult to get a good sleep.

We were more than satisfied with our stay at Hotel Arenal Lodge. The property that the hotel is on is absolutely gorgeous and has plenty of wildlife. The room was comfortable and even though the volcano was foggy, the deck and view were still so nice to have. The restaurant is also incredibly convenient. We were shocked at just how delicious everything from traditional Costa Rican food to steak to fish was. The staff was friendly. We had a great time.

Not a negative necessarily, but the hotel is about 10 minutes up a windy road and 25-30 minutes from Fortuna town. This didn't end up being an issue for us, as the hotel has a fabulous restaurant, bar, pool, and hot tubs, but we decided it would have been a little too dark to try and drive at night.

The feeling of being in the jungle, the facilities e.g pool / jacuzzi / pool table. The staff were exceptional, especially Rosio.

The rooms were a little too dark and there was a bit of a musty smell but generally they were clean, spacious and comfortable. The main downside was the location. Of course by having the “jungle experience” you have to be out of the town, but I feel the hotel should do more to accommodate getting into town to try different restaurantes as taxis are very expensive e.g their own paid shuttle service, e-bikes / scooters to go up and down the hotel track to the road.

Unfortunately it was rainy and cloudy for us, but the view should be amazing. There were many options for breakfast and dinner (good portions). They have a nice trail behind the lodge. The staff helped us book some activities and provided good recommandations.

It is around 10 minute from the main road up the mountain by car. That's what you get for a nice view, but it makes it complicated when you want to get out.

It is a fantastic property. We had a junior suite with a view of the Volcano from our patio. The property sits on 2000 acres and has many a couple GREAT walking paths. Building is rustic but room spacious and clean . Nice choices of breakfasts included in the rate . People are extremely pleasant and efficient …we only found one drawback ..it is about 40 minutes from La Fortuna town . We took Uber for about $20 each way. Also the entrance is a 4.5 kilometer hike !!! But we loved the property and our stay was wonderful 😃

Far from town and other things and 4.2 kilometer hike up to it .

This is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for some escapism. We had a lovely big and clean room, with a great shower and double sinks in the bathroom. The balcony looking out to the volcano was a real treat. The real highlight here is the amount of wildlife you can see just by spending 10 minutes looking out the window at breakfast or on the balcony. We saw so many varieties of birds, insects and frogs without looking very hard. If you want to see the birds with a magnificent view of the volcano, this is the hotel for you. The rooms are also big and comfortable, with plenty of room to unpack/repack bags, and relax if the weather isn't the best. They are old timey in a traditional lodge set up but don't be put off, they are incredibly comfortable and clean. The balcony is particularly nice to sit and just take in the scenery. The staff in the restaurant and bar were also super friendly. Please don't be put off by the drive to the top - it's 10 mins max and absolutely worth it for the views!

The food was good for a couple of days (not mind blowing, but good and exactly what we needed after a busy few days).

I have been to Arenal 3x prior and this was the most amazing location. Having studied biology, this property left me in complete awe. It feels like you are in the rainforest, but the owners are intentional about the types of vegetation growing there. Daily breakfast was filling and delicious. Best of all, views were INCREDIBLE from all over the property. It has a traditional Tico feel, transporting you back to when it was a working farm. They were very family friendly, which was important for my family and our friends with 4 kids between us. They have a kids play room, playground on the property and beautiful trails to walk on and explore the rainforest together (without having to pay for one in La Fortuna).

The property is very hilly so I wish there were more paths to get from the top to the main lodge. There were no kid specific options on the menu for lunch or dinner, so a lot of food was wasted and we had to pay full price for the plates. They were gracious about splitting the portions onto two separate plates though, which was greatly appreciated!
