It’s a lovely old building, scheduled as a national treasure. The location is good. The receptionist was very helpful. There was lots of space in our junior suite which was more like a maisonette than a room, with kitchen/living room and upstairs bedroom and toilet. So there shouldn’t be much to dislike.
Yet, curiously this place, or at least our junior suite, lacked a welcoming feel. For a start there was no WiFi coverage. We were probably just outside of range, situated in the last room on the block. We had no expectations of a kitchen, but there was a sink and worktop (and cupboards full of books) with a kettle, a couple of cups and a few teabags, no sachets of coffee or sugar. But nothing else, no spoons or plates or any other cutlery and no tea towel to dry anything. I just think that having provided a facility it makes no sense to leave out a few cheap but useful essentials. And generally it was poorly lit, lights that were not working, like the bedside light. Finally the room was cold, having not been heated prior to our arrival. So it never really warmed up during our short stay.

Villa Margaretha continues to be one of the best accommodations in Tartu, in my opinion. You will get a beautiful room in an historic building in the walking distance of Tartu centre and its just lovely. You will have everything you need there for a lovely stay.
I really really love this place, sometimes small inconveniences happen, but in a grand scale of things its nothing: this time there was no parking in the yard and I had to park a bit further ahead, but since it was very slippery ,it was a bit inconvenient with the bags, but nothing undoable. I also changed the bed type, but didnt get a reply from the admin and when I got there, then my message had been read, but not replied and the new admin didnt know about it. She asked me to switch on the radiator myself which for a second made me a bit wary, since Im afraid of cold, but luckily when I actually got to the room, the radiators were warm.

Villa Margaretha is a beautiful villa built in traditional wooden style, like in a storybook. This creates certain atmosphere. The building is a listed monument (Denkmalschutz). We stayed there for 1 week. The hotel is close to the center or Bussijam (bus station), about 10 minutes walk uphill. 15 minutes walk (or 1 stop by bus) you are then directly in the old town. Right next to the hotel is the pretty, slightly sleepy Kohvik neighborhood, full of pretty, colorful wooden houses. The surroundings are quiet, with spacious parking. The room is small, but adequate. It looks well maintained and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. You can generally get along well with English. Personally, I would stay there again. Even though their restaurant was closed when we were there and so they could not offer breakfast.
No complaint here. Except probably it would be good, if they offer Coffee or have their Café reopen, so that guests have the Alternative for breakfast, a Quick Drink, or just being lazy on their pretty terrace under the tree.

Gorgeous hotel - full of character. Beautifully restored building, lovely room(s), very comfortable, convenient for the centre of the city, quiet. It felt like having our own smart and traditional flat.
We missed having a kettle and basic tea-making equipment. That may reflect a British traveller's obsession, but was a small, reparable thing which slightly affected our experience in an otherwise exceptional place.

A absolute pleasure to visit this hotel! We had the deluxe suite and it was a window to old times. The room looks like time stopped many years ago, and I loved it! So spacious, quiet, clean and only 10 minute walk from all you need to see. Very friendly reception and possible to buy breakfast. We didn’t get charged for the private parking in the backyard. My biggest recommendation.

• Location • Price • Clean rooms/facilities • Well-restored, traditional old structure • Walking distance to major attractions • Courteous staff
• Bathroom sink was clogged-up • Bath Ventilation inadequate, thus fogging-up • Shower design & shower curtain not adequate in preventing water spilling outside • No fruits, little breakfast selection; however, what was provided met standards

Location very good - close to center and to Vanemuise. Athmosphere old style building. Junior room was on 2 floors, kids liked it. Small TV -s - this seems appropriate for such interior era.
Cleaning of room was not ready when arrived at promised time 14. #10 room did not have good enough sound isolation between next room #3, caused by door connecting rooms and not having double doors as usually in hotels.

Perfect location, street view, nice room style and overall decorations. Room was of excellent comfort and cleanliness, however there was some shortage with facilities (kitchen utensils as spoons and forks are absent, there is no coffee machine, and it is no easy to prepare a breakfast for yourself because of this)
shortage of kitchen utensils, no spoons, no coffee machine

Room was very big, charming and quiet. We appreciated that room was pet friendly.
It was too hot in the room, because there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was ok but coffee wasn't. It was far too weak!
