Having looked at mixed reviews at the Kingsbury I was a little apprehensive about our 2 nights stay, but honestly it was lovely. We could not have been looked after better, the staff were all amazing. Breakfasts were amazing - loads of choice between Sri Lankan (give it a try!), Indian, Continental and English. The public areas (reception, restaurants, pool and an amazing cake/coffee shop) were all quite plush. Popular choice for wedding venue so lots of beautiful ladies in their sari's to admire. The beds were amazingly comfortable and it is in a really good location opposite the Dutch Hospital which now houses lots of trendy little restaurants, boutiques and live music. Also within walking distance to One Galle Place which is a big plush new shopping mall.

The Bedroom areas (especially the corridors) are a little tired, but the room size was really good (we managed to get an offer where we were upgraded). PLEASE BE AWARE that you quite often get followed when you walk out of the hotel. People try to convince you that they work at the hotel, and are trying to entice you into going to gem sales. The concierge told me that he had been informed by a couple of guests that they had been caught this way, and didn't end up getting the proper certificate of authentication, that's if the gems are delivered in the first place. Just keep walking and don't engage. This happened to us a few times as we were walking around Columbo.

Spent a memorable stay at Kingsbury. The staff were amazing, from check in to check out. Special thanks to Manjula, the Concierge for his friendly approach. Nothing was too much for him. Only negative point which I believe has nothing to do with the hotel: I took a taxi there for city tour and asked the taxi driver to bring me to buy a sim card since I would spend 1 week over Sri Lanka. He brought me to a local shop where I purchased unlimited data and the sim. Didn't use the data since I used the wifi of the hotel when back from the trip. However while leaving the hotel the next day for Hikkaduwa I put the data on but was surprised when I was informed by message that no data was available and I needed to top up. Have I been scammed by the local shop? Apart from that, the stay at Kingsbury was great.

As always, The Kingsbury lived up to its reputation as a first class hotel, worthy of the five star ranking. All the staff work hard to give their guests an enjoyable and memorable visit, they are professional, friendly and helpful. The staff in the restaurant are outstanding as they prepare and serve delicious food. Breakfast especially is plentiful and delicious, I only wish that I could cook an omelette as tasty as their chefs! It's so relaxing to spend a lazy afternoon in the shade at the side of the pool and two cocktails for the price of one is an added bonus, also the rooftop bar is a lovely setting for a last drink before bedtime. If we ever return to Sri Lanka I would have no hesitation in booking another return visit to The Kingsbury.

Overall good, calm and clean

I booked a room with a single bed and queen size bed as i was traveling with my 6 year old kid and wife, but when i went to the room there was only 1 bed, and they brought an extra bed and squeezed it to the room, the space was very small, expected a bigger room. Other then that everything was good. Also i suggest to hire more young drivers for long journeys / trips, as most of the drivers are above 65

I booked suite with club lounge access which was great and spacious. Everything was good, excellent hotel, friendly staff, good and various breakfast of all tastes, amazing room, comfortable place to stay with family or alone. Good location as you can walk to the direction of Colombo centre where you can find some nice restaurants and cafes and central railway station. Or you walk to the other direction to Galle Face Green and One Galle Face Mall. Good facilities, restaurants, cafes, and swimming area. Flexible check-in and out times when available which is great.

The tea at the breakfast is cold and slow serviced, and the coffee type needs to be better quality. The indoor SPA needs more quality and improvements as sauna room was not working and the jacuzzi size is tiny not comfortable and cold.

Newish, clean, close to Galle Face area. Staff were friendly & helpful, possibly the most business like we’ve had. Rooftop bar is fun though music a bit loud, a good happy hour but you have to pay before the cutoff time to get the discount. Very clean. The hotel does seem to get lots of visits from VIP’s.

Twice while we were eating a couple of staff interrupted us for us to do Trip Advisor reviews…they didn’t seem happy when we pointed out we were eating & weren’t going to interrupt that just to do a review - which would have been a bit negative from us given their persistence at the wrong time. Other places we stayed in the country asked for the reviews when we were checking out.

Amazing view, location was extremely central, Staff were excellent.

Music from the outside bar was much too loud and disturbing. Mismatch between advertised services and those delivered. The management are raising customer expectations but not allowing the staff to deliver them, for example, the executive lounge was advertised on the website as being from 5.00pm but staff were instructed to open at 6.00pm - a totally unnecessary challenge for all concerned. A Sri Lankan seafood feast was advertised but no-one in the restaurant had been told about this. Communication between management and staff needs improving.

We loved our stay at the Kingsbury Hotel. It is in a great location and has a nice rooftop bar for a drink and taking the view. The music was good (a live band) and not too loud and the waiter service was also good. The beds are comfortable with beautiful bed linen. The food in the Harbour Court restaurant is of excellent quality and has an incredible selection for breakfast and for dinner. Although all of the staff were very pleasant, some waiters were better than others. Avishka deserves a special mention. He was proactive in looking round to assist guests and was always working quickly to ensure we had everything we needed as well as helping his colleagues. He is an excellent waiter and would, I'm sure do well in a supervisory role. Not only did he do his job well he had oversight of the whole area and the customers' needs beyond what would be expected of his role. The check in staff and other staff were all very good and helpful.

The music by the swimming pool was far too loud and mainly rap music containing swear words. This is totally inappropriate for the audience which was mainly older people. The DJ seemed to be playing to his own taste. There were lots of flies round the swimming pool bar furniture and the cushions were dirty. Although a nice area for sitting, this needs good cleaning and maybe new cushions.

We had an exceptional stay at The Kingsbury Colombo and highly recommend it. The Ocean Restaurant offers delicious, fresh seafood, and we were impressed by the staff’s helpful recommendations on the best ways to prepare and enjoy the dishes. Their suggestions truly enhanced our dining experience. A must-visit for anyone staying at the hotel!

While our stay at The Kingsbury Colombo was fantastic, one aspect that could be improved is the opportunity for guest interaction. Unlike other hotels that offer arcade games, gaming areas, or activities like dance classes, this hotel doesn’t have as many options for socializing with fellow guests. This was the only downside of an otherwise great experience.

Beautiful hotel in convenient part of the city. When we got into our room (just after 3pm) it was very nice and clean and comfortable. Enjoyed a swim in the pool and some drinks and snacks but again had to seek out a waiter and it wasn’t busy. The rooftop bar has incredible views across the city which we loved and enjoyed a happy hour cocktail up there, staff were great up there. Sent us off with a nice breakfast bag as we were leaving early which was a nice touch. The hotel has multiple dining options that look very nice but we opted to take a short walk to the Ceylon curry club nearby!

At this price point in Sri Lanka we were a bit disappointed by our welcome, reception staff member was lovely and polite but the room wasn’t ready (2.30pm) and we were left waiting in a corner, no welcome drink or towel as we had experienced elsewhere - not usually an issue but we had had a bit of a long and tough train journey and were hot and bothered. There were a lot of staff in the reception area as well and it’s the only place we had to go through a security scanner to gain entry!.
