Great location close to the centre and restaurants. Lovely breakfast and comfortable room. Early check in which was much appreciated.

The bathroom in our room wasn’t one of the renovated ones seen online. It was perfectly fine but a bit tired and shower leaked a little.

Breakfast was very nice with a lot of good choices. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The hotel has a lovely patio with wonderful plants and everything is very good taken care of. It is a little oasis in the town. I enjoyed my stay and would come back another time. It meets my expectations to a four star hotel.

My first room was noisy and too small. The second room was living up to everything I wanted. The staff were helpful and very nice about it. The rooms are not sound proof but that perhaps cannot be expected from a traditional town house building. But it is also me who is highly allergic to slamming doors. A coffee maker in the room would have been nice but somehow does not seem to be a standard in Italy.

What a gorgeous find this hotel was! A lovely little boutique hotel tucked away with a beautiful courtyard (sadly I brought the rain with me from Manchester so I couldn’t enjoy it). Breakfast was divine and the staff in the restaurant were lovely - remembering my coffee order from the day before so I didn’t even need to ask, was a nice touch and much appreciated. Highly recommended and i would definitely stay here again

The neighbours were a little noisy on the Friday evening but really, you can’t complain about Friday night noise in a city centre

Absolutely stunning hotel which felt like an oasis away from the crowds of Bologna's historic centre. Just a 15-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore but much closer to some of the city's best restaurants in Al Sangiovese, Osteria Le Mura, and Sette Tavoli. The room had gorgeous views over the colourful rooftops and breakfast was hearty and tasty. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. You could tell it is a real labour of love for everyone involved from the art and finishings to the attentiveness of the employees. 5-star quality for a fraction of the price. I cannot recommend Porta San Mamolo more highly.

Nothing – a thoroughly enjoyable stay from start to finish.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, especially breakfast staff. Rooms were pleasant, very comfy bed/pillows, well stocked with toiletries. Breakfast was adequate, usual mediterranean foods ie cakes/pastries, hams/cheese/tomatoes and also eggs/toast. Nice garden area to eat breakfast too (9-10am is busy time, if you are group of 4+ suggest you turn up earlier to ensure a table).

Hot water was temperamental - had none in the shower on our second evening (6.30-7pm) and then third evening couldn't get any from tap but shower ok from around 7.30pm. Scrambled eggs/bacon at breakfast was lukewarm/cold, would benefit from a heated serving platter.

Our second stay here and it didnt disappoint. This time we stayed in one of the back buildings instead of the main area and the room was much larger. Gorgeous decor and breakfast in the garden is a lovely start to the day, as is the cold fizzy water machine available all day. Helpful staff and a quiet location. 10-15 min stroll to Piazza Maggiore and lots of restaurants but also a few very close to hotel if that suits.

No Lift and only stairs to second floor in the outer buildings but staff would have helped with luggage if needed.

I loved the hotel room, it was larger than expected with a huge comfy bed and decent size bathroom. I liked that the hotel was slightly out of the centre as it was less crowded and touristy, there is an incredible restaurant opposite the hotel which we took advantage of! Would definitely stay again.

I think the breakfast could have been improved, it felt quite limited for the cost per night. Having the breakfast space open throughout the day and evening would have also been lovely - to order additional drinks and aperitivos.

The hotel is beautiful, we were greeted at reception by a nice man who checked us in quickly and efficiently. We were walked to our room which always helps. The gardens are absolutely stunning, very relaxing and even the other hotel customers were very chatty and welcoming. The room itself was big, clean, modern but at the same time classy. Loads of toiletries supplied, beds were comfy. The kids had plenty of room to play and run around in the room. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. Couldn't ask for more.

Our room was close to the kitchen so at breakfast time it was a little noisy (although our kids were already awake)

Location was great for arriving by car, just on the edge of the historic downtown. So didn't need to hassle with driving the small, crowded narrow streets of historic Bologna to get there, but a short walk from all of the shopping and dining. Wish we could stay longer to take advantage of the beautiful courtyard and cafe.

Could have been more explicit on the website about where to park. Once we got a hold of the front desk it was very easy, convenient and reasonably priced. FYI, park at Parcheggio Staveco which is about 3 blocks away and outside the restricted travel area.

Great location to middle of all activities and restaurants , helpful staff (particularly Salvo on front desk who helped with dinner reservations) and clean and tidy rooms.

Very small showers! But I think that is an Italian thing. Also each night near the hotel there seemed to be a meeting point for all the local kids early evening who did not disturb us, and were just being kids, but could be a bit intimidating to older people as you have to walk through them if you go left out of the hotel.
