Amazing ryokan experience as a solo guest. The lake view was great especially waking up to it in the early morning, the atmosphere was very peaceful. I enjoyed the baths and traditional kaiseki very much and that arrangements felt personalized and private, I highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice retreat from city life. The view of Mt. Fuji on the roof was worth waking up early for! Cleanliness was great, everything was meticulously prepared and punctual. Hotel service staff were helpful and respectful, even though it was after-service shuttle hours, they offered to give me a solo ride back to the train station after seeing I was waiting for the bus with my suitcase on the side of the road. I appreciate the hospitality very much and will likely be back in future!
The location, while still generally accessible, was a little distant from some of the popular areas on the other side of the lake. This was not necessarily a bad thing as it was quieter/less crowded, but if you are not driving or cycling and taking the bus, it would be necessary to plan well since the sightseeing bus only comes every hour.

This was a truely amazing stay. We had a small issue with baggage that was very quickly sorted out by the staff. We stayed in a traditional room with tatami mats and futons which were very comfortable. We were served a beautifully presented and tasty dinner. Dinner was served in our rooms by a lovely server who went out of her way to explain the menu in English for us. The dinner was served in 3 stages and was very large. I am not a huge fan of seafood but I do not regret ordering the dinner. Breakfast was beautiful, served in the dining room. I highly recommend the seasonal vegetable rice and miso soup (you have these items in the dinner as well). Overall a wonderful stay.
We didn’t realise at all Ryokans there is an onsen tax of about 300 yen per day (it does not matter if you use the onsen or not).

The general experience in the Japanese-style bedroom and dining room was very special. The onsen (mineral baths) were lovely (segregated, nude; as usual no tattoos allowed). The food was excellent (for a fish lover). The Japanese sleeping mats were very comfortable. The staff were very attentive.
Do not book if you do not eat meat or - particularly - fish and shellfish. Contrary to what a previous review said, you may find yourself unable to eat anything except rice at dinner or breakfast. As soon as we booked, we received an email with the following: "At Wakakusa no Yado Maruei, we are unable to make any changes or adjustments to meals. Wakakusa no Yado Maruei, cannot prepare any meals for allergies, religious or cultural restrictions, or foodstuffs that you may not like." This was followed by a long list of other instructions in a similar tone and was generally very unwelcoming. As a non-vegetarian I found the food excellent, but my vegetarian niece went hungry. The staff speak very little English (sorry, I hate to expect it, but it did cause some minor problems....)

It was my first time in a Ryokan, and the experience was very nice! The staff is very attentive and it really feels like they are there to make your experience amazing. The facilities are great, they had both private and public onsen, as well as an observation deck with mt fuji views! Sadly it was a bit cloudy when we went. The whole hotel is old themed, including the restaurants, where we had very delicious meals, both on breakfast and dinner. The room itself was very spacious, unlike any other we stayed in Japan. Also old themed with tatami flooring, both inside and outside bathtubs and a table for eating/drinking tea. While you have dinner, the staff goes to your bedroom and make futon beds, which were also very comfortable.
Maybe the price, but considering it has dinner and breakfast included as well as all the facilities, it's worth it for 1-2 days. The room had some bugs/spiders, kinda felt like we were in a inn in the countryside, but nothing that ruined the experience.

We only managed to book the room for one nights, since it was fully booked in the period we were visiting Lake Kawaguchiko. We really wanted to experience a japanese ryokan and that we managed. The room was great with a view to Mt. Fuji with a private onsen and authentic furnitures. Though we are vegetarians, we accepted the full set menu, which included meat and fish. The food was beautiful served and was very delicious, although I have not eaten meet for 8 years. The staff was extraordinary. We felt like royalty, but at the same time humbled with the honer we received.
Some of the common areas have not been updated for a while such as “picture room” and the lobby, but that did not take away from the experience of ours. We were only sad about not being able to stay longer

I got an accident which make me delay in arrival - all the hotel staffs try very hard to accommodate me including offer special van pick up and delay in Dinner. That was so impressive, I saw the attempt to support the guests as much as they can do extra miles. Feel like staying at home with a very good view of Fuji San from the Room window. Traditional breakfast but also very tasty ad healthy foods. Dinner cannot make changed to suit with Religious but the hotel informed us earlier then I manage all the situation in advance with supportive hotel staffs. All in all it is very good and value for money.
Nothing - I feel very comfy there

My stay at this ryokan was an absolute delight. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, each offering a beautiful view that promised a serene and restful experience. The dining experience was exceptional, with meals that featured a variety of fresh, local ingredients, beautifully prepared to showcase sophisticated flavors. The onsen added a relaxing touch to my visit, providing a peaceful retreat with stunning views. The staff were incredibly attentive and made sure my stay was seamless and enjoyable from start to finish. For anyone looking for a refreshing escape and excellent service, this ryokan is a wonderful choice. It left me rejuvenated and eager to return. Highly recommended for a peaceful getaway!

This was our favourite stay during our Japan trip. It was very easy to request the free shuttle transport from Kawaguchiko station and there was also free transport back to the station on check out. Check in process was smooth, overall service was great and they had English instructions printed out for guests to read. We loved the lake view from our room and our favourite part of the stay was the in room multi-course dinner which was exceptional. We used the private onsen (requires booking + extra fee) due to tattoos not being allowed in the public bath and enjoyed this, however we didn't get to see a view of Mt Fuji from the bath as we had an evening time slot.
Everything was perfect, nothing to fault.

The dinner and breakfast were gorgeous. We couldn't help saying "wow" when we saw the dinner. The staff were professional and helpful. After checking out, we left our luggage there and visited Oishi Park. When we returned, we realized we had almost missed our train back to Tokyo. After informing the staff that we were in a hurry, everyone at the front door helped us move our luggage and load it into the taxi.
The facade was being repaired during our stay, which affected the view through the windows. But we were informed about this before booking.

The quality of the hotel infrastructure, the quiet efficiency of the staff who seem to anticipate every guest need, and their flexibility in accommodating our non-standard needs set them apart from other ryokan we have visited. The lakeside location and view of Mt. Fuji are pectacular. However, in the end, it is the superbly-trained staff and management that made the difference. This is my second time at this property. I look forward to returning. It is among the best properties in which I have stayed in fifth countries.
Needs a fitness center! Although running around the lake is useful exercise, being punctual for the delicious kaiseki dinner and unbelievable breakfast meant that neither the spirit nor the flesh were strong!!!
