The food was great. We could not finish dinner because they gave us so much delicious food like boar and monkfish. Breakfast was also very filling and definitely worth the money because there are not many restaurants in the area. The staff was very nice - giving us a full tour when we checked in and were very friendly and approachable. The public onsen was nice as well as our private one. They made our futons for us in our room during dinner. Everything was clean enough. They spoke very limited English, but had translations pre-prepared for most things. I was able to get by with simple Japanese. They also gave you quite a bit of amenities like shampoo, skincare, aftershave, socks, and water bottles. Overall, our stay was very comfortable and I enjoyed it.

Starting with the worst: the wifi did not work or appear to exist. They claim there is free wifi, but we were unable to find any network besides one free public wifi network which required a strange sign-in with no security. It worked but was very slow and did not cover the expanse of the property. There are also only about 3 TV stations, so electronic entertainment is somewhat limited. It is definitely dated. I could just imagine how nice this place would have been in the 80s or 90s, but if you do not mind the style etc. it is still fine for the price compared to similar places. I will say that our only shower was outside by the bath, and we went in February which made it very unpleasant to shower outside in the cold. Additionally, the floorboards near the bath were very wet and dangerously weak in some areas. We walked here from the train station and I definitely would not recommend it if you aren't fit and ready for a bit of a trek uphill with your luggage. But with no taxis in the area, I would say you should consider a rental car, though walking is possible. There is a lot of stuff you can purchase. The most interesting of which was a karaoke onsen you could rent. They didn't have any size range when it came to yukata which is typical of many places, so I was just able to cover myself but it was close. Oh and the dessert for dinner was canned fruit cocktail... a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the meal.

Onsen is good.

Its unclean. The toilets did have a washlet but it didn’t work. It was very inconvenient.

The advantage of this place is that there is a large hot spring to soak in, it is private and not very crowded, maybe because there are not many guests.

The staff is not friendly. The price of the accommodation is quite expensive and not worth it. You have to carry your own luggage when going up the stairs. The floor we stayed was the third floor, we had to carry our luggage many times and it was very steep. At night, there were cockroaches coming into the room and crawling around the bed. So I don't think it is suitable for people traveling and people with families.
