The hosts, Jane and Peg, and the Filipino gentleman were very hospitable and helpful with directions and other information. The place is very clean, quiet and small. It has only four rooms or suites. I stayed in the Skywell Suite which has a balcony that overlooks the shop. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony In the late morning, relaxing with a book. I loved the exposed red bricks all throughout the shop and room. In fact, that was one of the reasons I chose to stay there. I soaked in the white bath tub a few times instead of taking a shower. The white Location! Location! Location! You will find a multitude of restaurants, coffee-shops, bars, convenient stores and bakeries just up the road and also on Chulia Street, a main artery in the area, a few hundred metres away.

Breakfast was very basic! Some yogurt and a selection of some fresh fruit, as either additions or a selection, would have been nice. The wifi was quite erratic and slow. Ironically, it was fast on the morning I checked out. The cupboard doors need some attention, for instance installing catches so that they can stay closed.

Colonial style building, in a very good location, close to all the attractions of Georgetown. Jane was an amazing host, she helped us with any request, she also arranged our pick up from the airport and recommended a tour with a great guide, mr Lau. The room was clean and was a very good value for money.

If you want to stay in a small cozy authentic hotel in the heart of the city, then this hotel is for you. We stayed for 10 days in a duplex room. It has a small shower with a sink outside, but it was important for us to have two isolated rooms, since my husband was supposed to participate in a conference on Zoom, and I was relaxing in the second room at that time. However, if a large bathroom is more important to you, then the hotel has such room with a large Victorian bathroom. All the hotel staff were very hospitable. My husband needed a desk for work, so we asked if it was at all possible to bring in a desk in our room, and on the same day the desk appeared in the room. Also a nice bonus was a free transfer from and to the airport. The hotel provided a supple of drinking water which you could use as much as you needed free of charge. And one more thing: do not miss the opportunity to use the services of a tour guide Lau. Lau is a very good person with a big heart, and thanks to him we were able to see a lot in Penang.

we enjoyed everything

We had an amazing stay at Jane's place! The room was huge (2-floor suite), very comfortable, and so clean. The bathroom might be a bit small, but the shower works wonderfully! The location is excellent, just a short walk from so many restaurants, bars/cafés, and shops...as well as everything you want to see in George Town. Jane also recommended an incredible private food/cultural sites tour with her friend Lau. Definitely take it! It's worth the money. We spent 10 hours visiting markets, temples, botanical gardens, and EATING in places we would never have known about.

We enjoyed everything about our stay! Thanks!

The house itself is a great experience : a two courtyard house with a fluid ground floor and the upstairs bedrooms . I stayed in the bedroom that opens to the two courtyards, spacious room with bathroom and a balcony , and recommend it . Great location, in the center of George Town and a walkable distance of the main interest points. Although central, it sits in a quieter part of Love Lane. Breakfast has two options : local or western (both very good) and Jane was very welcoming to accommodate any requests. Also, Jane proposed a half-day tour with Mr. Lau (great storyteller that follows one’s rhythm of the visit and accommodates timings and changes in the schedule to better fit our interests) for sightseeing and street food tasting and prepared water and a towel to take to the beach.

to be perfect : the shower and bath amenities (shampoo and body wash) were ok but could be more upscale and include body milk.

Our second stay after a decade since we last visited, You Le Yuen is a perfect stay for us. Located in Love Lane but far from the noise and hustle and bustle of Penang city. We had the same Courtyard Duplex Suite which balcony overlook the inner courtyard and we love everything like how we expected from our first visit. We love the rustic vibe and decor and the e room has all the basic necessities for our 2 night stay and sleep was perfect. Breakfast served in the morning came either local or western cuisine which serving was perfect and delicious. Thank you Ryan and Janet for taking care of us while we were there and we recommend staying here on your visit to Penang.

Wifi wasn’t strong where we were due to the duplex room.

I recently stayed at you le yuen, beautifully preserved heritage property that truly captures the essence of history and elegance. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the grandeur of the architecture and the attention to detail in maintaining the hotel’s original charm. The staff was warm and welcoming, providing excellent service throughout my stay. The check-in process was smooth, and they were quick to offer recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants. The heritage ambiance is truly unique—staying here felt like stepping back in time, in the best possible way. My room was beautifully furnished with antique decor, which added to the hotel’s historic charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the high ceilings and vintage details gave the space a luxurious feel. However, due to the nature of older buildings, there was a slight issue with noise isolation. I could hear some outside noise and the occasional sound from adjacent rooms, but it didn’t significantly detract from my overall experience. If you’re a light sleeper, I would recommend requesting a room away from the street or bringing earplugs just in case. The hotel’s location is perfect for exploring many nearby landmarks, and it was a real treat to be so close to such vibrant cultural sights. Despite the minor noise issue, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an authentic, historical experience. The charm and character of the property, combined with the attentive service, made my stay unforgettable. I would definitely return on my next visit!

Slight noise from outside since it’s close to a school and many bars/ restaurants, but nothing major. I’m a light sleeper and absolutely enjoyed my stay and wasn’t much bothered by the noise

A paradise boutique in the heart of georgetown I will start my review by saying pure and utter class service provided by the owner and staff at this stunning unique place. Location is just perfect. Minutes from restaurants, cafes, live night out , street arts ur, street food, major attractions, love lane and yet on a quiet spot which you in fade you will sleep deep without hearing any noise. The place is unique and has a beautiful soul. You would connect with it easily. I felt the warm welcome the minute I arrived. To add to this point, I arrived at 11 pm and the owner who is the kindest person on earth was waiting for me to hand out the key. A loft room. Living area and restroom are on the first floor. Specious and spotless. And it had a Telly , AC which works really well, kettle and tea 🫖. Bottles of water as well. I asked for iron and was given one. 2nd floor is comfortable bed and pillows. And a table just in case you wanna have a laptop 💻 n catch up with your work. WiFi is provided n worked well. My booking included breakfast and you would have a couple of options, Tea / coffee and juice. Breakfast is made with love by a kind beautiful Ryan who goes out of his way to provide a world class service to ensure guests are taken care of whilst he is having a smile on his face. I’ve also opted of their privet tour which was delivered by a stunning human being, Lau. The good part the tour is that it can be tailored to meet your needs. Discuss with them what you like to explore and see ( spice garden, botanical garden, beach, temples, street food, mansions, Penang hills …etc). I enjoyed a half day tour with Lau and we both exchanged information. He knows the great secret tips in town. Without a shadow of doubts, you MUST visit Penang and its secrets and to stay at You as you will feel it’s Home away from Home getaway / experience. Thanks ever so much for putting a huge smile on my face whilst I was there. I could not be more happier.
