A lovely quiet stay on a site full of things to explore. The pools are beautiful and the staff are helpful. A quiet and relaxing place to stay.
Agree with other reviews that the checkin is quite weird and intense - feels like you’re going through customs! It would be good to have a snack/ drinks bar at one of the pools at least. It’s kinda disappointing that you can’t get any food or a drink by the pool - a fundamental holiday experience! Also the coffee at breakfast is a Nescafé pod coffee - which is an appallingly poor quality offering at such a nice hotel. Especially for the price. We raised this with the restaurant and they took it off the bill but I’m still so surprised anyone would do that at this standard of hotel.

Everything met and exceeded our expectations. The staff is incredibly professional and nice. The food was INCREDIBLE, fresh ingredients and exquisite preparation. The resort premises are huge, in the middle of a secluded, quiet part of the near-beach jungle. We stayed in an individual lodge with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The rooms are designed and furnished in the traditional Mexican and Yucatan style. The resort is a piece of paradise: quiet, surrounded by trees and vegetation, there's a lagoon nearby ON THE PROPERTY. There's also a cenote right in the resort and it includes an underground cave which can be toured, one of the *many* activities the resort offers (for free). It really feels like the resort was built around the nature and the spirit of the Yucatan peninsula, as opposed to putting these elements around the resort. There are plenty of activities and things to explore just within the resort itself, with many swimming pools, bike tours and hidden gems on the premises (such as a traditional church, quiet gazebos, the cenote, library, a recreation of a Mayan village, etc.). The resort is approx 10 mins drive from Tulum, 8 mins drive from Xel-Ha water park. We'd recommend renting and coming by car for everyone who stays here to enjoy the surroundings as well (including places like Playa Paraiso). The staff was incredibly accommodating: we missed our connection and lost one night of vacation stuck in Atlanta and the resort management offered us an extra night *for free* to make up for this (although they didn't have to). We also met the owner of the resort along with the director and we could feel their passion for nature, for preserving and passing the spirit of the place onto the resort and its guests. Big thanks and kudos to Gonzo (leading cenote and cave tours and various other activities), Alejandro (our favorite restaurant staff), and all other staff who made our stay feel warm and welcome.

Everything was amazing. It feels like the owners care about the details and making your stay as comfortable as possible. The territory was huge, there were multiple cenotes, underground river, a beautiful lagoon, 3 pools, and more. There's lots of things to do that are included in your stay, like kayaks/paddle boards, bike tours, underground river tour and daily yoga classes. The tour guide Gonzalo was amazing, he was very passionate about the tours, and went above and beyond in making sure everyone was comfortable and had a great time during the experiences. The food in the restaurant was really good, and the staff very nice and helpful. There's plenty to do on the premises, but the location is also close to many of Tulum's white sand beaches.
Nothing.

The place is fantastic
The food is not at the level of the hotel, and unfortunately is the only option as there is nothing you can walk to. I really suggest to get better products to be able to do better food (it can be good but you can see the quality of the meats and fish bad - specially the burger ). However besides this everything was like a dream and fantastic

Set in the jungle near Tulum, there are three pools, and a gorgeous green lagoon with bar and food service and extremely comfortable lounging, paddle boards and kayaks. We did both tours with the amazing Gonzo; Cenote underground water tour and the Mayan Village Tour on bikes. These were the highlights of our vacation so do not miss -- our older teens just loved them! During our stay we saw iguanas, bats, giant spiders, and a boa constrictor. Note, there were no crocs in the lagoon! There were three options for the included breakfast (plus a fruit bowl, granola, honey and yogurt, coffee and a fresh juice). Options were pancakes or waffles with maple syrup, eggs and bacon with salad, or a traditional Mexican chiquillies with an egg and green or red salsa. Each of our family had a different preference for breakfast which we enjoyed. Breakfast was so filling we could last until late afternoon until our next meal. As we had rented a car we visited nearby Akumal and Puerto Aventuras for meals (another traveler recommended AVIS for car rental). We spent four nights at Wakax. If you have a car, I suggest a three night stay so you can do both tours. BTW, if you have claustrophobia you may not like the cenote tour. The bikes are great fun, staff and owners are very friendly, the rooms are huge and right out of a glossy travel magazine, and the setting is out of this world!
Cocktails were made with the highest quality ingredients and service was friendly and excellent, but it would be nice to have a little entertainment or activities in the evening after supper. We did play ping pong and darts by the restaurant. Additional games such as a pool table or shuffleboard would be a bonus.

Breakfast was delicious and with great variety - the food overall was wonderful and the cocktails were delicious. We felt so looked after by the staff, who were all friendly and very responsive when we had queries. The setting is blissful - we felt quite secluded in the jungle and the facilities were top-notch. We loved the range of complimentary activities, particularly the cenote tour with Gonzalo, the on-site guide. He led us on an incredible tour of the underground river (cenote) right on the property. There are numerous different pools in lovely settings in addition to the gorgeous lagoon. The entire experience was wonderful, start to finish, and we will most definitely be back.
Taxis were expensive when it came to leaving the resort - this has nothing to do with the Wakax Hacienda but just be advised.

This is the type of place that makes your vacation plans change! The property stretches over 400 acres and its concept is deeply embedded in Mayan culture on one side and hacienda life on the other. This is more than a hotel stay - it’s a walk through history, nature wanders, and an architectural pearl of its kind. The place has even its church! All infrastructure is completely new, authentically built by traditional Mexican construction and it’s absolutely beautiful! Because of its vastness bikes are everywhere and one can ride among secluded cenotes, swimming pools, and many other hidden natural gems in this place. You are in the Caribbean but you don’t miss the sea at all! The praises don’t go just to infrastructure but also hospitality - Xavier is an exceptional manager and in love with hacienda - not only does he knows everything about the place but also takes care of everything connected to the outside life. The food and drinks in their cenote-side restaurant are not only always fresh and delicately prepared but also has incredible waiters, Johnni and Pedro, who do the extra mile and fetch you cigarettes in their free time and bring it to you the next day. For the fun part - an underground river tour or jungle bike ride, Gonzo is a highly experienced go-to person. Gonzo is a Wikipedia for Yucatan, Mayan culture, diving and so many other things that one can book a day with him and just listen to his knowledge!

What an amazing place! Where to start ... well there are so many different places to swim (lake, 3 pools, cenote) all in really beautiful surroundings. Or you can help yourself to bikes and explore the outer grounds, seeing exotic birds and iguanas, the Mayan village and the myriad of buldings, including a church. Then you can use the kayaks, paddleboards and gym, or just sunbathe on the deck by the lagoon, or perhaps take a well-earned rest on your huge bed in your room that looks like it should be in Interiors magazine. And all this after you've had a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and Mexican scrambled eggs, served by really lovely staff (all the staff were excellent). And not to forget one of the highlights of the trip, a tour of the underwater river with the expert guide, Gonzalo. No spoilers, but it was the best tour we have ever been on, and he was so knowledgeable and helpful throughout our stay. All these activities are included in the price, which adds to the feeling of zen - there's no hard sell, nobody telling you where you can or can't go. I would recommend going when we did - early April, after the US holidays. The weather was hot but not oppressive, and we had the place almost to ourselves.
Nothing!

A paradise on earth! The whole eco resort is beautiful. It has 2 cenotes (one open and one underground river) and one lagoon with a cascade where you can take a kayak and go around. We managed to swim at night in the open cenote :). When you book you also have a cave tour with the guide Gonzalo included for free. He is truly amazing - very knowledgeable and fun. He brought us into the caves and explained every single detail of the nature and animals you can find there. The food at the restaurant is freshly cooked when you order. We also got a free upgrade from a room to a junior suite with two private terraces. The interior design is also stunning and the rooms are huge. They also give you bikes and throughout the resort towels are available near the many swimming pools It is a jungle dream, quiet, romantic and relaxing Highly recommended

We booked Wakax for 3 nights at the end of our honeymoon to treat ourselves and we have absolutely no regrets. Loved the property! Loved the tours provided by Gonzo - highly recommend the cenote tour it is not to be missed. Everything was simply magical! There were lots of places to explore within the grounds of the hotel. There were 3 swimming pools so you can take your pick, the main cenote / lake by the restaurant and another smaller one. It seems everywhere you look, there was a body of water. The paddle boards and kayaks were all free to use. We also hired a car which we made use of at least once a day to head out for food.
The only downside is the food in the restaurant. By the end of the 4D3N stay, we’ve tried a lot of the items on the menu but none of them were really impressive. The cocktails were good, Mexican / latin dishes were OK (Yucatan breakfast, guacamole and chips, ceviche, toastada), but the pizzas tasted like they were made from frozen and the pasta was subpar. Prior to this, we had been in Mexico for 2 weeks and found the food in Mexico City and Oaxaca overall to be out of this world. Would be good if the restaurant could reflect this somehow, or otherwise introduce a few menu-of-the-day dishes on top of the main menu, to keep things fresh?
