We learned about Barangay through one of the Travel Guides, we wanted a small Bed and Breakfast in the historical Canal District of Amsterdam with that reflected the original character of the neighborhood but has all the modern convivence for comfort a travel expects and needs…. We were not disappointed! Barangay is hidden away on a cobblestone street between two canals. The front door is easy to miss if you are not paying attention to the street address. This helps to ensure privacy from passing tourist. The street view room is spacious, well-appointed and stylishly decorated and able to maintain the original ambiance with the original, thick, heavy wooden floors. The bathroom is updated and bright. The interior layout is from the building’s original design and the stairs reflect the restraints of it’s time. Wimmo, our host, is gracious, energetic and very helpful in suggesting how to navigate the city. The breakfasts are brought to your room at a time to match your schedule. He takes great pride in preparing the meal and selecting various presentation. The Barangay is ideally situated in the Canal District, an easy walk to the tram in one direction and small restaurants, shops and market street in the other. I will be telling friend about the little special find in Amsterdam. ped

Very nice property in a good location. Wimmo, Godwin and Eduardo were very friendly and welcoming. Wimmo was in contact with us before our journey and welcomed us at the door on arrival. It felt much more personal than the service from a regular hotel, while leaving us to come and go as we pleased. The room itself and the bathroom were both spacious and clean. Though I do prefer a door on a bathroom, I can understand why this wasn’t possible with the layout of the old building, and it didn’t cause a problem. Though we didn’t use the communal kitchen, it was a nice option. The area had a number of cafes, restaurants and upmarket shops and felt safe to wander around at night.

What an amazing place. The house is beautiful. The room is large and exceptionally clean. All the little details are awesome - from a basket of snacks to fresh water the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Wimmo was so friendly and helpful. Always just a bell ring away when/if you needed him. Did I mention the cleanliness? They go way above and beyond in cleaning/straightening up your room. Also, the location is perfect. Right in the middle of one of the cutest streets in Amsterdam.

Just a note - the bathroom is huge and the shower is wonderful but there is no door at the top of the stairs so there is no 'sound' privacy. Not a criticism, just something a little different.

I can’t say enough good things about Amsterdam Barangay. The location was in the heart of the Jordaan and the 9 Streets. It was a short walk from the train station and was pretty easy to find with the help of Google Maps. The room was spacious, clean, and well appointed. The shower was amazing. There’s in room coffee, treats, and a complementary small split of bubbly. There are good restaurants nearby, including a great Italian place just across the street. This will be the first place I seek out on my next visit to Amsterdam.

Not a thing.

We had the garden-view room for four days over Christmas 2022 and we could not have chosen a more cosy, comfortable or welcoming place for our holiday break in Amsterdam. The room was spotlessly clean and decorated in a relaxed but elegant and fun manner with east-asian artworks and crafts (pictures number 7 and 16 in the Booking listing show our room, and pictures 2 and 27 show the attached upstairs bathroom). It was like staying with relations in their cool and funky guest suite. The room had a TV with good reception, a small fridge, coffee and tea-making facilities and a table and chairs for breakfast. A cooked breakfast is not available but we were provided with a daily basket of biscuits, cakes, breads, spreads and fruit. There is a shared kitchen which we used to make our lunches and evening meals. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet and restful. When we returned on Christmas afternoon after a day out were were charmed to find a bottle of wine and some chocolates on the bed, with a Christmas card from the owners. Thank you Wimmo, God and Karen - we loved our stay and will come back!

There is one thing I would mention - it's not a criticism but just a heads-up for some guests. The entrance stairs are very steep and narrow and might be a problem if you cannot manage your luggage. Also, our bathroom and bedroom were on two levels, the bathroom being reached by an extremely steep flight of twelve stairs. Many guests (like us) would find this amusing and fun, or just part of the funky vibe, but do be aware that if you have mobility problems the stairs to the bathroom could be a genuine problem. Contact the owners if you have any doubts.

The property itself is beautiful, including art and antiques with eclectic and colorful surrounds. Larry and I stayed at the suite at the back of the property, up a few flights of stairs with a spectacular view of private gardens within the city block. So quiet and tranquil.

We didn’t mind at all, but the bathroom, beautifully appointed, was up a skinny flight of stairs in the attic above the living space. Some older people might find that inconvenient.

We liked everything about our stay. The location is very central and quiet. The design of the hotels is great. The hosts are very friendly and extremely helpful. This is the place to stay in Amsterdam. I went to Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday with my friend and when they heard about it they surprised me by decorating my room with happy birthday stuff and even gave me a small gift. I would definitely recommend it.

It was a superb stay at Barangay B&B, in the middle of the wonderful canal neighbourhood of Amsterdam. I stayed in the back room with the beautiful garden view, with all necessary amenities for a great stay - beautifully furnished, meticulously clean, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom upstairs, curtains for full drakness, iron, kettle, hair dryer. There is a lovely co-kitchen that can be fully used :) I had a great welcome and send-off by Wimmo, and would definitely stay there agin in my next visit to Amsterdam.

The b&b is located in a pretty, semi-quiet part of Amsterdam with easy access to all the main attractions and Centraal Station. The property was clean, quirky, friendly and homely. It was wonderful returning to such a relaxing space after a long day out. Wimmo was extremely helpful with any questions asked. The breakfast snack basket was refreshed daily, plus juice and wine in the room mini fridge. There is also a communal kitchen which the 4 guests can use. Such a wonderful experience staying in a traditional canal house. I would highly recommend a stay here!

We loved every aspect of our stay at Barangay.

Loved everything about this place. It’s located on the most beautiful little street in Amsterdam with lots of nice restaurant within minutes. The room is spacious and comfortable and we really did have two good nights of sleep here. Home away from home with two lovely helpful hosts. There was also a kitchen for guests, but we didn’t use it.
