The hotel has been renovated from an old Air Force officers mess and living quarters. The history here is amazing. The room my friend and I shared was nice, there were 2 beds separated by a wall with no door so we each had privacy. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was nicely updated and the shower had plenty of water pressure and hot water. The shinning star of this hotel was the restaurant. The meals were amazing and everything we tried was super delicious. We were told that the chef had cooked for royalty in the past and it shows.

For our needs, nothing could have been better.

We were well looked after and the facilities well and truly catered for us as we had a few guests coming and going and were able to meet them in the restaurant / bar area. Our room rate included breakfast and we were only expecting a continental but were able to order a full cooked breakfast and were able to watch the All Blacks game while eating (as could not watch in room). There was a wedding when we were there, but staff went the extra mile to ensure that we were not impacted.

We ate dinner there and the quality of food was not really up to par for the price charged. The ribs looked to have come out of a packet and were just heated up and served. The breakfast in the morning sort of made up for it though. Would stay again for the location, but would eat dinner elsewhere next time. The TV Channels in room were very limited and TV did not have Airplay / Cast functionality to view external programs.

Breakfasts were good size but expensive - it seems everyplace in bigger cities in NZ charge more because they think they can. They employ foreign nationals and chances are they are paid minimum wage so why the excessive price?

Was at a reunion and we would have liked the bar to be open after 2200. being in a now residential area there may have been a noise caveat on the use of the bar but there are rooms away from the street front. A bit of adaptability by staff / management would have been great. But no NZ staff there to speak to.

Only utilised accommodation - no food - due to our travel schedule. Was a real pleasant surprise. Lovely ground floor room with excellent shower and bathroom. Limited interaction with staff but the check in lady was lovely Concerned that it might be noisy from floor above but not the case

Advertised as early check in - after 11. Advised that it would need to be after 2pm. Was offered as after 12 on the day before we traveled. Would have had a drink and bite to eat but nothing open until 4pm

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and exceptionally responsive to the guest needs. I had a minor request with the room that was immediately sorted out with no problem. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is well appointed with heated flooring. Everything looks new apart from the obvious features of the old Officers Mess that give the place character. Some issues with the food quality and consistency in the cafe/restaurant initially. They were going through a change of cooking staff during my stay so either the current chef didn't care/wasn't up to scratch, or they knew it was a problem and sorted it out with the change. They took note of the issues and fixed them so it was obvious that the management cared about the details and looked for improvement. By the end of my stay the food had improved and a new menu was in transition. I can't recommend the hotel enough. Management and front of house staff are top notch. I will be staying there again next time I am in Christchurch for sure.

It was quiet, maybe too quiet / didn’t see another guest. Comfortable bed and lovely room.

The reception area was lacking in warmth and personality. Gloomy decor throughout the whole place, but I guess in keeping with the old airforce building. Wasn’t shown the short way to my room so ended up outside the building. Didn’t realise I had to pull my case up two flights of 9 steps because of no elevator!! I’m a fairly fit 75 year old but would’ve appreciated being warned!

Lovely decoration, comfortable bed, friendly staff, lovely food

The selection of breakfast included hadn't come through from booking.com. This was corrected once I had downloaded the booking.com app rather than the website to be able to prove this selection. Long wait for both dinner and breakfast meals, but both were delicious once arrived. Our room obviously had pipework for upstairs toilet in the wall, very loud every time someone up there went to the loo!

The staff could not have been more helpful- the room was lovely- immaculate- the history was fascinating and it was just 15 minutes from the airport -,the food was all cooked to order and was delicious using fresh ingredients- we ate both supper and breakfast

It was very quiet we may have been the only guests staying over - the signage from the main road is non existent and if you didn’t know about it it’s unlikely you would stumble upon it which is a shame

We chose this hotel because it is not located in the downtown area (would not have wanted to go there by car) and had good value for money. The room was quite spacious. The bathroom was very nice, clean and warm with floor heating (we went there in autumn). Parking space in front of the hotel.

The beds were quite soft (but this is a personal preference). The hotel already looked a bit old all-in-all, but the rooms were fine.

Stayed for 4 days over xmas while visiting chch family. My husband had an airforce background so it was interesting to see how the place has been made into a private hotel . It's in a quiet neighborhood, great rooms, large and very comfortable. Breakfast menu was great, cafe quality , and on-site bar handy too. We aren't into big inner city hotels, so this was the perfect place . Thoroughly recommend .
