The room did not have air conditioning, but the reception staff loaned us a fan and we kept the drapes closed so the afternoon sun didn't bake us. The bed was really comfy and the bathroom was large and well lit. We didn't use the communal kitchen, but it was well-equipped and spotless. The staff here were exceptionally friendly and made sure guests were well-cared for.
The water pressure in the shower was really weak, but there was plenty of hot water and it was adequate. The soap dispenser was placed directly over the sink so I couldn't wash my face without making a mess on the floor. I pointed this out to the reception staff and he rectified it immediately.

loved the beds, were comfortable, enough storage space to take a book, chargers etc to the bed with you. Enough places to lock your staff. Also had a good bedight. Had a four bed female dorm and we shared a private bathroom which was awesome. Kitchen facilities were really clean - even after the cooking rush - and had everything you need amazing common areas and view
the rooms were a bit of a tight squeeze - if one person was sorting through their luggage you would have to wait to be able to access your own. But that was a minor inconvenience

Always found Haka Houses to be the most expensive of all the hostels but the facilities match the price. Nice building, well located. Great kitchen, common room and the six bunk mixed dorm was comfortable with the pods (lockable storage below the bunks with small lockers in the dorm also). There is free parking on the street out front if you don't want to pay the $10 hostel fee. Plus Wanaka is a nice little town, food trucks just up the road were a great deal and tasty, fun watching the Chinese tourists at the tree.
Established groups from Kiwi Experience made the hostel clickish.

The lounge & dining areas had floor to ceiling windows (full length of the walls), looking out across Lake Wanaka to the Aspiring Mountain National Park (majestic, uninterrupted views)! The lounge was expansive & lined with chairs, lounges, bean bags, coffee tables amongst a cozy aesthetic gas fireplace. The dining area also expansive & again warmed by an aesthetic gas fireplace, tastefully done. The kitchen, large, well equipped & cleaned daily, never ran out of a vacant gas cooktop space even at the busiest of times. The large commercial fridges kept well chilled. The cabin was obviously recently refurbished; thermostatically controlled heating, sturdy bunk beds, stainless countertop, sink, microwave, kettle, toaster, glassware... & attended to daily. The location could not have been better! Half a block from the main grocery store & at the doorstep to the rest of the towns restaurants & shops. Two blocks walk to the pick up & drop off for the shuttle to Queenstown & Cardrona ski area.

The location is perfect and I liked the large and well equipped kitchen. There was always hot water on tap. It was also great that each dorm room had its own bathroom . The bedding was very clean and comfortable. The communication with the hostel was friendly and they always answered my questions straight away .
The kitchen was missing the free basics like salt, oil, teabags ect . Also I would like to see more effort in signage/ education of recycling and it would be good to have a glass bin.

The room was big enough and nobody was on top of each other Luggage storage space inside the room was quite big too and the most inportant thing for me was that the room was warm enough and did'nt feel like a fridge like most of the time here in NZ Comfortable bed and duvet
Just few small things that bothered me was luggage closets build on top of each other so if you have a heavy luggage and you happened to have the top closet lifting your things up might be annoying, it would be easier to have them side by side at the end of the beds They were some plates and cups in the room but not even one cutlery If you are planning to cook here you need to have your own spices starting from salt and cooking oils or hope someone left some behind...maybe I've been pampered before and everyone already carries them around😆

Beds were comfortable, ensuite room was spacious, but could used more airflow. Bathroom was clean and had nice sink space for toiletries. Location couldn't be better. To park on the lot is $10/night so I parked across the street along the bay for free parking. View of the lake was phenomenal. Kitchen had everything we needed.
Some ants in the kitchen area. Knives need to be sharpened. Non-stick pans need to be swapped out -- they scratched up and unsafe to use. Guests need to do a better job of cleaning up after themselves in the kitchen.

Great sized unit for 3 people with 2 bedrooms. We had a lot of ski gear so having a large communal space was great too. Also the very friendly cat was a bonus who is obviously used to many people letting it in and giving it cuddles. Awesome kitchen facility in the main building and can’t get a better location stepping out on to the grassy foreshore of the lake but also 5min walk from the food trucks.
Nothing I “didn’t” like, but the only very slight downside of the unit is the bathroom is tiny. A better use of their building plan would have been to prioritize bathroom over kitchenette. Kitchenette was basic with kettle, microwave and unnecessarily large sink, no fridge so besides making coffee not much use and since there is a great communal kitchen so having a private kitchenette becomes obsolete (kettles are great though)- better use that space for the bathroom. I already gave it 9/10, less crammed bathroom would make it 11/10!

Love the cleanliness and the ‘new’ feel to the facilities. The staff went above and beyond to remember my name and be super helpful. Location is amazing being central with a beautiful view of the lake. The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at and would 100% stay there again
The only small thing I’d mention (which is more a comment about other guests) is the table soccer game in the lounge room. Although this is a fun thing to have in the common area there were times at 10pm and 6am when I was wanting to sit on the couch and have a tea when there were people playing this game which is really loud and yelling.

Cleanest hostel I have ever stayed at Really big kitchen Nice lounge areas Lovely view from the dining and lounge area Room was warm and comfortable and bathrooms were clean
It was absolutely freezing cold in the dining and lounge areas. Not sure if the heating was broken but unless you were sat with a blanket, you couldn’t sit there for long It’s also sometimes hard to tell who is working and who isn’t because there are a lot of staff who all chat with eachother
