I booked the micro-cabin and deluxe studio and both rooms were very spacious and didn't feel cramped up including the bathrooms. Everything was spaced out nicely and easy to move around in and were well equipped. Both rooms were always clean and refreshed when we returned from our outings. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accomodating. What both my partner and I were impressed with was seeing how this was possibly Iwi or whanau operated. We loved seeing our 'own' (Māori people) doing the mahi and making Te Awa look fab. Also love how the Café was right there for us to dine at, the food there was also delicious.

Having allocated parking for the deluxe studios. We were luck we had booked a micro-cabin as well with allocated parking which solved this problem but if we hadn't we would have possibly been left to park on the road and with my mum struggling to walk this would have been an issue.

The Unit was superb, open plan kitchen, dining and lounge. Bedroom bigger than normal with loads of storage space in closet. Kitchen was very clean with a good size fridge. Bathroom well equipped and good size shower. Even had a washing machine available along with laundry liquid, little things that make a difference. Nice sheltered outdoor area to the side. Cafe on site was very busy, which is always a good sign. Whakatane Fishing Club across the road which have superb meals. Take the drive to the end of The Strand where there is an awesome playground, and watch the boats tackle the Whakatane Bar.

No negative comments. Would stay again.

Great location with an excellent cafe forming part of the motel. The room was large with a comfortable bed, seating, kitchenette, plus dining table and chairs. Plenty of room and warm, despite the chilly nights. The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. We had a very pleasant short stay.

Not a complaint or a dislike, more an observation. The room may benefit from a refresh, looking a little worn. The microwave was a bit old but perfectly functional. It's a shame there is no outdoor space for the rooms on the first floor. The front balcony had temporary safety fencing along it, and the rear door led to an alternative access way.

Nice and clean and comfortable. Id stay here again. a surprise was the complementary laundry facilities and laundry liquid was provided. Even though I didnt get sea views from inside the room, there was still plenty opportunities to view them from outside on the balcony of the room. sunsets were amazing.

there is building tape and fences on the balcony for saftey reasons. looks like theres some expensive work to be done. its not only unattractive but it gives unsafe feelings. Maybe the balcony is warpped and slipping feeling. Kinda scarey. I hope the motel will have this fixed by the nxt time i stay at the end of the year

It’s a great location, close to the Main Street, I walked to dinner and walked to have a facial. The room was spacious and clean and tidy.

My room didn’t have air con, which was ok for this time of the year. I used the heater a little one evening. In summer it might be hot though. The amount of wifi for free was tiny, however, if they made the limit 1 gig a day I could have watched a movie on my personal Netflix on my phone in the evening. They do have a tv in the room and sky. If I was working I would have needed more wifi. Unlimited would be ideal.

The room was nice and spacious, there was a really nice cafe located at the motel as well and there was also a spa bath in our room which was excellent. Bed was comfy and spacious (bigger than mine) and with a TV and Sky provided, it's a great way to wind down after a long day. Also a huge thank you to the cleaning staff for servicing our room everyday, it is very much appreciated.

There wasn't much I didn't like tbh. The shower was a bit too short for me but being taller that's just how it goes for most places. Everything else was really nice during our stay.

Excellent cafe. Nice view from upstairs room I was in for part of my stay.

The room I was in downstairs was clean, bed was comfortable and everything I needed was there but it felt like a hospital room especially the bathroom which was spartan. Unit had lino throughout with no carpets or mats and it smelt of disinfectant which wasn't pleasant. Room opened out onto carpark and was very public. If you can handle stairs, go for an upstairs room as they are more private.

The location and the staff were a huge win for me. We weren’t going to make check in time 8pm so I called reception and they arranged key collection from their lockbox. The clear instructions were text to me and check in was easy, the lights were left on for us. They also arranged 30mins late checkout very last minute. Location was excellent as well, few mins walk to the town centre and a nice walk along the whakatane heads for exercise.

Nothing, great stay

The room was on the first floor, easy access, check in was a breeze and the was clean and tidy. The location was close to town, waterfall, walkway, the wharf and the Heads. Great deal of parking. Cafe downstairs for breakfast is a must.

The room was extremely hot and had a fan that blew hot air around. NO air conditioning in the room so be aware especially in summer. We stayed here in mid January. Wasn't pleasant at all especially at night. Made sleeping unbearable.

I was absolutely amazed by the motel's fantastic location and its close proximity to both the city and the water. Although I must admit that being of Ngati Awa whakapapa, I wanted to ensure I remained impartial in my assessment. However, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride in the exceptional level of hospitality extended to guests, truly embodying the spirit of manaaki. Additionally, having a delightful café conveniently located on-site was a definite treat.

While we understand that achieving excellence can be challenging, there were a couple of aspects that didn't quite meet our preferences during our stay. Firstly, the bed was too firm for both my husband and me, as we typically enjoy the added comfort of a foam gel topper on our mattress. Secondly, considering our experience, we would likely opt for a ground-level room in the future to avoid the inconvenience of carrying heavy bags up a staircase, especially in inclement weather.
