We loved the location of the hotel on a quiet street in Principe Real, near a beautiful park as well as an overlook that offered a lovely view of the city. A wonderful little Portuguese restaurant right on the corner and many other restaurants, cafes and wine bars nearby. Our host was very helpful and offered suggestions for sightseeing and transportation. Breakfast buffet with option for fresh cooked eggs (fried or scrambled) was a great way to start the day. Our host even arranged a special breakfast plate for us (cheese, bread, fruit and yogurt) on the day we left because we had an early flight.

There’s no elevator in the hotel, so climbing the stairs may not work for everyone, however our host carried our bags upstairs for us, and we found the stair situation to be quite manageable.

What a lovely stay in Lisbon! The staff really tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Starting with making the room ready earlier than check-in time. The rooms are spacious and well decorated (we had a little terrace, which is great). When we came back on the first night we found some port and pastel de nata in our room and on the second night a bottle of wine and some chocolates. Also, the staff made great recommendations as to where to go/eat during our stay. Would 100% recommend!

Really the only thing I can think of is that the bathroom could do with some better quality items. The faucet, shower rod and toilet roll hanger were a bit loose and the towels a bit ragged. But then again, the bathroom was light and spacious and had everything we needed.

Everything about 1869 Principe Real House is a dream. Stayed in Room 5 for 6 nights (the one with the blue couch and large soaker tub in the photo). The bed was extremely comfortable, the room was large and very functional for a week or more stay. Lots of storage and space. It also has a very large stand up shower and plenty of space for toiletries. The high ceilings and elegant decor are luxurious with 2 large shutter doors to access the small balconies and let in light or keep it dark. The bathroom has the same, which is so bright and inviting. Every detail was thought of from gorgeous water glasses, a fresh bottle of water daily, shower toiletries, fresh and large towels, a towel rack, gigantic full size mirror, and beautiful chandelier. We did not lack for anything. Each day the room was cleaned and spotless. Every staff person was extremely friendly, beyond helpful, and incredibly accommodating. They carry your luggage up the wide, circular staircase with a gorgeous tiled wall, send you local restaurants and attractions through WhatsApp, help reserve attractions, call locations for details, and will even grab you an uber or bolt and will wait outside with you to ensure you are safe and sound. You are welcomed with port and a free bottle of wine. Every day you return, you are offered a glass of port. All speak exceptional English and wear a smile at all times. Thank you, Hugo, for the jam, which I enjoyed on my toast my first day back home. Then comes the breakfast. It’s free and beyond substantial. Fresh eggs cooked to order, juices, fresh bread, amazing jams, homemade cake (yes cake), meats, cheeses, sliced tomatoes and olive oil (local and divine), cereals, yogurts, and a multi-coffee maker that made cafe latte taste like it was from a cafe. The coffee is available any time. The breakfast room is comfortable and encourages guests to talk and share information, which we did and was helpful to all.

There are so many wonderful aspects of this property, but it's the staff that truly elevates the experience. Hugo and John are incredibly welcoming and hospitable, always eager to assist with any requests we had. They even surprised us with wine and desserts in our room, after a long day of sightseeing. The large bedroom featured a very comfortable king-sized bed, and when we requested extra pillows, they promptly appeared the next day. The spacious bathroom boasted a shower with excellent water pressure and a generous double sink vanity. Each morning, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast downstairs, where they prepared eggs to our liking, accompanied by fresh fruits, pastries, a selection of bread, meats, and cheeses, as well as juice. Our rooms were cleaned and refreshed every day.

This is a great place to stay. The only recommendation I would suggest is thicker towels.

From the start, the reception team of Mariana, and Angelino and John were great and did everything they could to make our stay a good one. The room (5) was had modern style ... and stylish ... large hanging and storage spaces. It was very spacious and the bathroom - including a large double-ended freestanding bath bath and separate shower - was brilliant. The location is away from the noise of central Lisbon but easy to get to and from when you work out the tram and bus options. Really good restaurants were within a few minutes walk. Breakfast (continental plus egg options) was more than adequate and in a nice room ... it made a good start to our days. If ... when!! ... we go back to Lisbon, we'll be there again.

Nothing worth writing about!!

Very quiet neighborhood. The whole house is beautiful and very clean, very well maintained. Rooms are well lit and sufficiently spacious. All modern facilities are provided, which is not always the case in those old europeans houses.

It needs to be said that it is about 10 minutes away by foot from the interesting centre of Lisbon, from a tourist's viewpoint, and uphill from it. So old people and people with a condition could find it difficult to walk back up to the house by the sharply ascending streets after hours of visit.

Staying at this hotel was the best decision I made!! The hotel is so cozy and cute. I had a room with a balcony, and it was so precious. I want to especially thank Angelino, Hugo, and Joan for making my stay in the hotel and Lisbon a fantastic one. They were so friendly, insightful, and helpful! I was able to easily get to every destination I wanted to go to, thanks to their direction. Even when i locked my key in my room on the first night there, they responded to my whatsapp messages promptly and i was able to get into the hotel and my room without any issues. I can't say enough good things about them and this hotel.

The staff really make this property. Hugo met us at the door poured us a glass of port and made us feel very welcome. The property is beautiful very different to hotels we normally stay in, this felt like home from home. Hospitality is first class. Beautiful room better than the pictures. The information the staff provide is so helpful with great recommendations. Angelo and Jon were also on hand to help us with anything we needed. Bottle of complimentary wine in room, port and cake to return after a day out, this small gestures mean so much. Amazing comfy bed and beautiful bathroom huge room (room 3). Exceptionally clean. Thank you to the young lady at breakfast who served us sorry I didn’t get to chat, you seemed very busy but thank you.

We had an amazing stay at this hidden gem of an accommodation. The place was spotless and beautifully traditional, full of charm and character. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the incredible staff. John, Hugo, and Angelo went above and beyond – they were unbelievably kind, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Their hospitality made us feel right at home. We would go back in a heartbeat!

We didn't really have breakfast so can't comment, the reason was the location was so good there was too much to enjoy on the doorstep. The room was lovely, clean, and well taken care of. But the staff were just so nice, really friendly, really polite, and they even left us a bottle of wine in our room for valentines which was a wonderful surprise and so sweet.

Only thing we could recommend is to look into the pillows, pillows are always a challenge when travelling. But otherwise absolutely nothing to not like.
